Yesterday, Brocklesby Stakes winning trainer Robyn Brisland was fined £8,000 for accepting two breaches of training rules alongside assistant trainer, Will Degnan, who was also fined on account of four breaches of training rules for an incident which occurred several years ago during the Covid pandemic.
BGP Capital, the racing club affiliated to this newsletter, have just sent a 2yo to Robyn Brisland.
It is important to note BGP Capital do not condone bullying of any sort and we have spoken to Robyn this morning to understand his version of events.
BGP Capital have met Robyn many times and we stand by our belief that the character the Racing Post have portrayed is different to the one we have met.
Racing is a high-pressure, professional industry, and reactions in this environment can be varied. We understand that, as a result of the yard being under-staffed during the pandemic, Robyn resorted to an emergency hiring of staff who weren't suited to the racing environment. We understand that some language used during that period was not appropriate. We do not condone using abusive language to anyone and as such BGP Capital expressed their concerns. Robyn acknowledges this, has apologised and duly accepts punishment.
Our reading of some parts of the Racing Post story suggest that they may have been taken out of context. We are told that the work rider who cut her chin was seen to straight away by first aiders on the yard and taken straight to hospital by a member of Robyn's staff, arriving at hospital as soon as possible.
BGP Capital feel comfortable with Robyn accepting the punishment handed down to him, and his response to the incident. Having recently visited his yard and experienced a happy working environment for both staff and horses, we will continue to use him as a trainer for some of our horses for the season ahead.
Now, lets dive in.

Headline roundup
NO-run-STRUM
Juddmonte suffered a blow to their Classic credentials yesterday as their 8/1 chance for the 2000 Guineas, NOSTRUM, was ruled out of the race by connections.

The Group 1 Dewhurst third, behind owner-mate and BGP gamble CHALDEAN, was “a little stiff last week after a piece of work” and the team wouldn’t be able to get him back for the Guineas at the start of May.
8’s, 5’s, 3’s and on the squeeze at 5/2.
CHALDEANNNNNN.

Royal Ascot is now on the agenda for NOSTRUM, the KINGMAN colt, as Juddmonte’s racing manager, Barry Mahon, said: “If we get him back in time for Royal Ascot that would be great but if we don't there's still plenty of nice races for him later on in the year."
Blake on the money… again
Kevin Blake. The man who has done more for the public image of horse racing than any BHA movement in recent years.
And it all started with TalkTV last week.
Thanks for the kind words re this interview and to @PiersUncensored/@Roolockwood for having me. We are awful for squabbling amongst ourselves in this industry, but I'll you tell what, we have a breed, a sport and an industry that is worth uniting & fighting for. @Sta@StandUp4Racingp

Good stuff. Want to talk about numbers for impressions this tweet got? This tweet alone had 1.3m impressions, 5,734 likes, and over 1,100 retweets.
Kevin Blake is some man.
He’s been given 10 minutes on @TalkTV and he’s done an incredible amount for our sport when we needed it.
Give US in horse racing time in the public eye to share our side so we can educate.
Education is needed.
Bravo, @kevinblake2011

And that’s before we take into account the 289k impressions from tweets directly from the Piers Morgan Uncensored Twitter account, a tweet that is one of their best on pure numbers.
"Every animal dies - but not every animal lives with the quality of life that a racehorse gets."
Horse racing journalist Kevin Blake responds to Animal Rising's Alex Lockwood's view that the sport is cruel and profit-orientated.

This level of exposure is key to helping the image of horse racing in the eyes of not the extremists that will never change their minds, but the neutrals who have only seen negative press from our media.
And yesterday, he was on BBC 5 Live defending the case of horse racing yet again.
You may be interested to hear how an Animal Rising representative responded when I asked him on @bbc5live what their plan was for the 50,000 thoroughbreds in the UK if they achieved their goal of having horse racing banned. Very revealing indeed. #StandUpForRacing

1.3m impressions again with this tweet and the script of Blake’s dialogue with the opposition, a man called Ben Newman, saw the journalist/breeder walk all over the other side.
“What will you do with the 50000 thoroughbreds in the UK?”
“Stop breeding them.”
“No, what about the horses that are around now?”
“Um, put them in sanctuaries…”
Brilliant future planning from the Animal Rising group. LOL. And just like that, it is 2-0 to Kevin Blake.

NEW FEATURE - YOUNG BLOOD
16.45 Newmarket
A couple to keep an eye on in this class 4 novice.
BLUE STORM is one. He's by BLUE POINT out of RISKIT FORA BISKIT. His dam RISKIT FORA BISKIT won her first two starts at 3yo and progressed to be a listed winner over 5f. She has produced SILVER SURFER who was placed at Listed level twice and ASJAD who has been a good flag bearer for James Horton, noticeably winning off a mark of 101 at Doncaster last year.
BLUE POINT has made a very promising start to his stallion career, he looks to be passing on his speed to his progeny. This colt was a 75k yearling and very much looks the part. The cross of SHAMARDAL (BLUE POINT sire) and KODIAC (dam sire) has worked well in the past.
The money horse is HACKMAN, supposedly Hugo's sharpest 2yo. He's by speed dire MEHMAS out of ISHIMAGIC. MEHMAS stands for €60,000 at Tally Ho Stud, a hugely successful and revered breeding operation in the industry, however they didn’t breed this lad they pin hooked him for 70k and resold him for 130k making a tidy profit.
HACKMAN'S dam wasn’t quick herself with her best efforts being 4th place over a mile and over 7f however she has produced two horses who have a peak RPR of 94 so she’s clearly going well as a broodmare and might not be far away from a nice one, HACKMAN could be that one.
Risk on
15.35 OTTOMAN FLEET
Fit from Dubai and should take all the beating. We were given POKER FACE for the Brocklesby meeting and would have been a strong bet had he ran but in light of the different opposition today, we're taking him on. Full bet at 7/4.
17.20 DREAM COMPOSER
Successfully gambled him before and backed him lto at Donny. Soft over 5f is perfect and we think he has one more big race in him before he needs to come back down the handicap. Half bet ew at 7/1.
There might be another bet later, posted @equinties in twitter.
Staking and banking
There was a lot of positive feedback recently from people benefitting from our staking advice. Well, and general bank roll tips too. So we'll keep it here as a reminder.
If you want to take punting seriously and use racing as a value add to your life, keep a betting bank, protect it at all times (none of this 'ah we're on a bull run, I'll stick a few stupid bets on') and stick to risking the % stakes, upping notional as the bank grows. Betting banks will change your punting forever.
Help keep a healthy bank by betting less and using the TOTE Fantasy game to feed the chimp.
The TOTE FANTASY features the slop at Nottingham today and we're playing. We will also post a slop place pot using the TOTE.
