🌒THE SECOND BEST ECLIPSE OF THE YEAR

Not news but thought we’d post this photo from last night because it’s banging:

Racing photographer Edward Whitaker absolutely nailed capturing last nights solar eclipse over Kempton.

He took photos every four minutes before combining them into one and the outcome is wizardry.

The timing was particularly poignant given the uncertainty over Kempton’s future, prompting Whitaker to call it “quite literally the eclipse of Kempton.”

⭐NICHOLLS’ NEW STAR?

Big Paul Nicholls needs to up his game. He’s been all too easy to take on in recent times, so his purchasing at the sales needs to be really on point.

He’s lost a lot of top horses over the last couple of years, most notably Supreme winner OLD PARK STAR, who was ripped from his yard and sent to Hendo’s. That would have hurt.

Sidenote: It’s said Gordon and Su Hall moved him because they’re better friends with Paul’s ex-wife! Paul’s divorce proving far more costly than the lawyers would have estimated.

Well, keen to buy back into OLD PARK STAR’s family, Paul and Tom Malone went to €70,000 for a RICH HISTORY (who!?) gelding at Tattersalls Ireland. He’s out of OLD PARK STAR’s dam making him his half brother.

70k isn’t a lot of money for a horse these days and we imagine the low cost was because the sire is an unknown.

We’re not sure he’s going to be any good.

Elsewhere, Tom Lacey paid €55,000 for a NIRVANA DU BERLAIS gelding whose pedigree had received a recent boost after his half-sister won for Willie Mullins. Lacey also bought an IN SWOOP gelding for €45,000, with both intended for resale.

A SOLDIER OF FORTUNE gelding related to BIG BUCKS made €50,000, while a CRYSTAL OCEAN gelding out of a half-sister to Champion Chase winner Sizing Europe sold for €40,000 to Cian Collins.

The opening session saw 151 lots sell for €1.87m, with an average of €12,405 and a median of €8,000.

💃WINDSOR PARTY

All eyes on Windsor’s 19.11 today as PARTYING — Amo Racing’s 4.4m-guinea FRANKEL filly — is finally set to make her debut.

Bought at Tattersalls Book 1 in 2024, she was the second-most expensive yearling ever sold at the sale. She’s out of Duke Of Cambridge winner ALJAZZI, who herself cost Newsells Park 1m guineas, and is a sister to Amo’s 3.6m-guinea Frankel colt ST JOHN’S WOOD.

She’ll make her debut for Kevin Philippart de Foy, with five rivals, including Boughey’s 10-race maiden WATERFORD CASTLE and THATCHAM, who has already had two runs.

The market suggests Boughey is going to upset Amo’s party tonight. At 6/4 on, WATERFORD CASTLE has been as consistent as he has been unlucky and now looks the time to bang in his first W.

Back to PARTYING. Kia needs this girl to be somewhat useful. Granted, he bought her as a broodmare prospect, but Jesus Christ, at four million you’d want her to be useful, right?

The racing industry needs Kia but we’d be worried he’s going to get rekt before he gets any significant success. His plan, if there is one, seems disjointed, haphazard, volatile. He’s paying over the odds for horses with a distinct lack of good buying advice, his trainer isn’t up to the job and he’s using other peoples money.

From what we can see, the whole Amo thing is just one big sh*tshow right now and Kia needs to sort it out quickly.
