Equinties - WIN A VEGAS TRIP

Equinties

Gm Equinauts

Saturday was a good day for newsletter, banging in several big priced preview and stat winners including THUNDERBEAR at 10/1.

As you’ll know, back in June we asked you to kindly contribute £1 a week to help us fund our work and increase the quality of content we send out to you every day.

We’d like to think the newsletter provides good value for such a nominal amount, but if you’re still yet to buy into the weekender edition - we have something that might sway you.

A trip to Vegas.

Let’s dive in.

WIN A TRIP TO VEGAS

On Breeders Cup weekend, Saturday 4th November, we’re going to give away an all-paid-for trip to Vegas to one annual subscriber of this newsletter.

Basically, the only reason we have this completely ridiculous prize to giveaway is because we drunkenly bid on a few things at a charity auction and accidentally won everything. Funny, but really quite annoying so we’re giving away the Vegas package.

The trip includes:

FOUR NIGHTS AT THE 5* TRUMP HOTEL

CHAMPAGNE HELICOPTER FLIGHT OVER THE NIGHT STRIP

LAS VEGAS PASS (ACCESS TO 30 PLACES)

50% OFF FLIGHTS

YOU choose when you want to go, as long as it’s by June 2024. We will help you book your flights and cover half the cost.

How to enter:

This is really easy.

  1. Simply become an annual subscriber to newsletter for just £35.

  2. Like/retweet this post:

If you are already a weekly subscriber but want to enter this competition, simply upgrade your subscription via the email.

The winner will be picked from an auto-generated online raffle (recorded) and announced on the evening of the 4th November, Breeders Cup weekend.

HEADLINE ROUNDUP

There was a lot of racing to digest over the weekend, so here are all the highlights you need:

AARAY

A brilliant winner for the newsletter, ARRAY is by NO NAY NEVER and out of JOYEUSE whose famous older brother is the Goat FRANKEL. ARRAY is owned by Juddmonte of course, and trained by Andrew Balding, the same team that have campaigned Classic winner CHALDEAN.

ARRAY has been somewhat unlucky, but everything fell into place on Saturday at Newbury when he won the Gr2 Mill Reef Stakes. There could be a chance that he would run over a mile next year, so a possible tilt at a Guineas could be on the radar.

KEENELAND SEPTEMBER YEARLING SALES

Another record breaking year for the Kentucky Auction House. $408 million changed hands over a 12 day period of frenzy trade. INTO MISCHIEF was the top sire with 53 yearlings selling for an average of $698,000, his highest priced yearling sold for $3million. All in all, 30 yearlings broke the million dollar mark and 171 broke the half million dollar market. A healthy bouyant market, the average for the whole sale was slightly up from last year at $143,000.

We’ll be doing a thread on this sale.

SIRED SUCCESS

TERRITORIES had a good weekend with his 2yo’s. A Listed winner in Germany, a Group 2 2nd and Group 3 3rd in Britain and a 4th in Ireland. TERRITORIES had 4 Group 2yo horses this season, the same as NIGHT OF THUNDER (100k fee), JUSTIFY (100k fee) and KODIAC (40k fee)… TERRITORIES fee is just 10k.

The son of DANEHILL, HOLY ROMAN EMPEROR, had a great weekend, as the source of German Gr3 winner ROMAN MIST now a 5yo, the dam sire of Goffs Million winner ONE LOOK and the sire of the Gr3 Firth Of Clyde second GREAT GENERATION. HOLY ROMAN EMPEROR is now the sire of 55 pattern race winners.

STUDY OF MAN, who won the Prix du Jockey Club for the Niarchos Family, had a good weekend too (and his pedigree is quite incredible). By DEEP IMPACT who is a breed shaper in Japan, but his dam side features the 10 x Group 1 winner MIESQUE as his grandam.

He is the sire of Gr2 Beresford Stakes winner DEEPONE (a good boost for DIEGO VELAZQUEZ).Interestingly, DEEPONE is out of a GALILEO mare, DEEP IMPACT himself has done extraordinarily well with GALILEO mares; SAXON WARRIOR, SNOWFALL and AUGUSTE RODIN are all out of GALILEO mares.

A day to remember at the Curragh for the Twomey team as DEEPONE won the Gr2 Beresford Stakes and ONE LOOK won the Goffs Million. ONE LOOK, a daughter of GLENEAGLES collected a tidy €610,000 by winning. Not bad for a filly that was having her first run, she also won by 6 lengths to CHERRY BLOSSOM who has previously ran second in the Gr2 Lowther Stakes at York.

IRISH SHENANIGANS

The Irish Cesarewitch headlined the action on our mobile screens yesterday and the spoils went the way of Joseph O’Brien’s MAGELLAN as he powered to victory at 150/1 under seven-pound claimer Hugh Horgan.

The Australia gelding ran off a mark of 93 yesterday thanks to varying bits of previous form – for example, he finished third to JESSE EVANS and TAX FOR MAX when giving weight away in July but was then unfound in the Connacht Hotel Handicap at Galway. Funnily enough, he also beat stablemate NUSRET on his second career start at Limerick.

As if this result couldn’t be topped, the Curragh finished their day of action with the Corinthian Challenge Charity Race and for a race worth €59 to the winner, it wasn’t short of controversy.

That’s because it looked as if the well-backed favourite, NOBLE ANTHEM, would bolt up under Damien Moore, however, an apparent misunderstanding of where the winning line was saw him begin to ease up his mount too soon, allowing FAIR DAMSEL to bolt past under Martina Dempsey for the win.

Obviously, Racing X went bat sh*t crazy over it.

PAYS TO BE IN-FORM

As with all Ayr Gold Cups, Saturday’s feature at the Scottish track was as competitive as it was entertaining and this year, Julie Camacho’s SIGNIFICANTLY was the one who came out best under Joe Fanning. Fanning did a good job of weaving his mount through plenty of traffic to guide him home in time to win, making the success much sweeter.

The five-year-old by GARSWOOD was beaten by a head in the Portland Handicap earlier this month, adding to his win and runners-up medal in July and promising sixth in the Stewards’ Cup at Goodwood in August.

Ahead of Saturday, he was clearly a horse in-form, something that is an interesting point to bring up.

Of course, plenty of horses can have a few off runs and then bounce back to their best when they are well-handicapped, but one thing that has been prominent this season is that in-form sprinters – and especially sprint handicappers – have been succeeding more regardless of their handicap mark.

Take Saturday’s race for example – on all known form, ROHAAN was extremely well-handicapped to win, yet could only muster seventh and the same story goes for MR WAGYU further back in the field. Yet, with the likes of RAMAZAN (2nd) and GWEEDORE (3rd), they were running off a career-high mark, yet they performed really well because they were in-form.

It’s not an exact science, but just something to note for the remainder of the season.

CHAMPION STAKES CONTENDER?

Champions Day at Ascot is less than a month away and the Champion Stakes could be the target for Saturday’s Listed Doonside Cup winner ROYAL RHYME after he won impressively at Ayr.

The three-year-old by LOPE DE VEGA did a visually brilliant job of reeling in PRIDE OF AMERICA, who didn’t fade away after being passed, to win by just over a length fashionably.

If you watch the race back, you’ll see the 3yo colt run with the most determined grit, his eyes bright white, like he was a horse possessed. It really was scary stuff to watch and one you’ll want to keep on your side.

He has an entry for the Group 1 contest next month and is a general 25-1-shot for it – jockey Clifford Lee was confident throughout the race and connections now have a live contender if the ground is on a slower side.

YOUNG BLOOD

15.15 LEICESTER

DOSMAN by KINGMAN, cost 375k as a yearling, dam was a Gr3 winner and has produced AIKHAL who won a Gr3. Dam a half sister to Gr1 Irish Derby winner LATROBE.

MAJED by first season sire MAGNA GRECIA was a 210k breeze up, he’s a half brother to Gr1 winner RHEA MOON. Should know his job coming from the breeze ups.

TELEMARK by NIGHT OF THUNDER, he’s a Godolphin homebred given to Rabbah (friends and business associates of Sheikhy Mo) to have some fun with. Dam didn’t do much, first foal, best watched on debut.

INAPPROPRIATE by CHURCHILL cost 70k as a yearling, first foal, dam was a winner at 2 and is a half sister to the dam of CADILLAC. Family of Gr2 winner and Sire REQUINTO.

AMBIENTE FRIENDLY by GLENEAGLES, cost 80k as a breeze up after not selling for 30k as a yearling. End of April foal, dam yet to produce a winner from her first 3 foals, wears a hood, best watched on debut.

Sir Mark Prescott runs 3 the most expensive of which is GODSEND at 180k but interestingly stable jockey rides WARMONGER a son of CAMELOT. All 3 are best watched on debut.

Verdict: The market is shouting for the Varian debutant, he’s now odds on but aving come from the Breeze Up Sales MAJED should know his job well. He looks an early type and could give the odds on fave something to worry about.
