HEADLINE ROUNDUP

BEST ONE TO COME?

Yesterday Racing X was buzzing after long time Ballydoyle servant Seamie Heffernan teased the listening public withthe indication that a monster was coming.

Often known as the quiet man, his words of warning were echoed loudly all over social media:

Would be scary if he’s right…

NEW LIVES

Rehoming of race horses is a big topic. There are currently 14,000 thoroughbreds registered in training according to the Jockey Club. So it is welcome news and a great initiative of David Howden and Jayne McGivern to include a ‘ex-racehorse class’ at the Cornbury House Horse Trials in 2025, worth £50,000.

Howden is becoming a big player as an owner, his best filly this year has been RUNNING LION. He owns mares at Tweenhills, and now has a string of racehorses. He also lives at Cornbury House in the Cotswolds, which is building an excellent reputation.

LEADING SIRES

So who are the leading sites in Europe as we enter into the latter stages of the flat racing season?

By winners; the leader board is lead by LOPE DE VEGA with 135 winners and a strike rate of 49%. The son of SHAMARDAL has 30 more winners than KINGMAN who is sitting in 5th position, also with a healthy 49% sr.

KODIAC, DARK ANGEL and DANDY MAN are sandwiched in between. The surprise package in this group is obviously DANDY MAN, as he stands for just €15,000 and offers great value to breeders. However, he is a long way behind in the ‘Black type’ winners list with just 1.

Who is king of the 2yo’s? It’s no surprise that NO NAY NEVER is still the boss - he is the leading sire by Prize Money and Black type Winners.

However, by ‘winners’ it is BLUE POINT with 32 individual 2yo winners, and the First Season sires are giving a good account of themselves.

NOTE: Watch out for Hannon’s BLUE POINT in the 14.00… supposed to be good.

SOLDIER’S CALL is lying in 5th place, then INNS OF COURT and TEN SOVEREIGN’S. WOOTTON BASSETT and HAVANA GREY are on different ends of the spectrum in regards to their Covering Fee, one is €150,000 and the other £18,500. But they have each sired 3 Group winning 2yo’s, VANDEEK is HAVANA GREY’s Group 1 winner in this sphere and BUCANERO FUERTE is WOOTTON BASSETT’s Group 1 winner

Anyway, there loads of racing today, let’s gamble.
