Away from the main Graded and Listed races, a few horses are either running in what will be their Gold Cup or have future targets in mind. The first of which is SHAN BLUE in the valuable Swinley Handicap Chase. Ahead of today’s assignment, Dan Skelton said: “We’ve had this rave in mind for SHAN BLUE for a long time. He ran really well at Christmas and the step back up in trip is a positive, I think.”
An update on Shan Blue. You’ll see him in the spring

If it wasn’t for a mistake at the third-last, he would have won the Charlie Hall in 2021, so he is a classy animal, and there are few people better than Skelton for targeting a horse for a race but he really, really needs to show up today and prove he still has it… we won’t be backing him to find out!
Due to an abandonment last week, LARK IN THE MORNIN is racing today to get his fourth run into him before the Boodles Juvenile Handicap Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival. It’s a 4yo maiden hurdle and he has a current rating of 120, so a win today should ensure his place at the Festival and he has been backed.
Eyes on how Lark In The Mornin runs today in the 12:55 at Punchestown.
