Gm, Equinauts
The alarm bells have been sounding for a while now but the Noel Williams interview yesterday was a poignant one.
The BHA probably don’t care and remain running round their offices doing nothing like headless chickens.
Let’s dive in.
HEADLINE ROUNDUP
🟣MORE AMMO
Amo Racing's marked expansion shows absolutely signs of slowing, which is incredible given the current climate racing is suffering right now, as Kia operation confirm the acquisition of a second Newmarket training base.
The purchase of INDUNA STABLES follows last year's big acquisition of Freemason Lodge, bolsters Amo's growing presence in British racing as the marmite owner pursues Coolmore-like success at the highest level of the sport.
The investment off the track mirrors Amo’s aggressive approach in the sales ring. After spending tens of millions on bloodstock in 2024, the operation has continued to expand its infrastructure, with major redevelopment work underway at Freemason Lodge. The addition of Induna Stables provides further capacity as the team continues to build one of the largest and most ambitious operations in European racing.
Whilst their early purchasing strategy seemed to be a bit ‘scatter gun’, there does now seem to be some form of consolidation. They now employ multiple retained riders, in David Egan and Rowan Scott, while legend Frankie Dettori remains involved as a global ambassador.
Although horses carrying the Amo’s purple racing colours are spread across a wide network of trainers in Britain, Ireland and the United States, with close to 100 runners already representing the operation this year, Newmarket will be their ‘home’.
The breeding side of the business is the important bit. And it’s growing rapidly. They control a substantial broodmare band split between Europe and America, while first-season sire PERSIAN FORCE has got of himself off to a fairly good start at stud.
Former Derby player KING OF STEEL is another major long-term prospect for them, with his first foals already arriving.
Racing needs to embrace Kia and his Amo army for they are literally propping the breeding game up and studs should be thanking them for their business.
🔴VICTORIOUS
The Victorious owned MRAIR took a big step forward from his debut effort with a good win under Ryan Moore:
Sent off too short to back, the very expensive son of rocket maker MEHMAS travelled easily before being asked to work harder and get the job done. He did it comfortably and fairly advertised his considerable potential.
George Scott was pleased with the colt, noting that much of the focus since his first run had been on helping him settle and relax rather than on any intensive work at home. let’s not forget, he was a Breeze Up horse so would have been cherry ripe before heading to Scott’s anyway!
With that clever approach by Scott appearing to pay off, connections are now considering a tilt at the Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot.
But the Royal Ascot dreams don’t stop there for VICTORIOUS for they have a team so stacked they’d make Wathnan think about upping their game and they have another potential weapon making her debut today.
Enter: SENORITA BONITA.
🔄MORE LEAVING RANKS
After writing up about James Ferguson’s departure from the training ranks yesterday, we have another one… and sadly, it couldn’t have happened to a nicer bloke.
Noel Williams has had to pack it up after 12 years at the helm.
Now, you couldn’t back his horses with much confidence but he did bang in some good winners and despite the backing of some prominent owners including the Noel Fehily syndicate, he can’t make it pay.
Trainers are dropping like flies and the BHA need to wake tf up. Owners are getting a rotten deal, the Levy is a rotten deal, the sport has been drained of cash and bar the Tote, the gambling industry is so bent it couldn’t care less if racing survived.
WAKE UP.
