Gm Equinauts

The 15.05 yesterday was a wild race for Ffos Las Tuesday. The top three are definitely Pattern class with Menuisier’s looking like a proper horse.

Muir, the trainer of SPACEPORT, backed his own horse at quite a big price on course. We spoke to him after and said he hated the going…so you can upgrade that run! In third was the Young Blood each way hedge if you were following the big boys in on DEVILS POINT. He’ll also be much better on quick.

A race for the form books.

Let’s dive in.

BGP FANTASY LEAGUE COMP

We’ve been hyping up the TOTE’s new Fantasy game since we found it. Why? Simply because there is nothing else out there now which can help people cage the betting chimp while maintaining an emotional interest in the big races of the day.

People bet way too much and the Fantasy allows you to get limited risk on, fill your brain up with the dope it craves and still be in the mix for a big win.

If we hit 100 stables today, top of the BGP private league comes golfing with BGP Capital - we’ll run the comp until someone wins!

HEADLINE ROUND UP

LITTLE BIG BEAR OFF TO STUD

Multiple Group winning champ, LITTLE BIG BEAR, has been retired following his most recent disappointing runs. He has been a great servant for O'Brien, albeit in what was quite a short career and will no doubt stand at stud for Coolmore to carry on the NO NAY NEVER bloodline and try and produce rockets for the Irish Mafia.

BIG PLANS

Last week’s Molecomb Stakes and Young Blood winner, BIG EVS, is being primed for his greatest test yet as is “99% certain” to take on his elders in the Group 1 Nunthorpe Stakes at York.

The horse who runs with his tongue out at the opposition ended a shock result in the Windsor Castle at Royal Ascot and connections want to make use of the massive weight-for-age allowance (22lbs from three-year-olds and 24lbs from the rest) against the likes of HIGHFIELD PRINCESS, BRADSELL, and AZURE BLUE.

No juvenile has won the race since 2007 with KINGSGATE NATIVE, though THE PLATINUM QUEEN was a close second in last year’s renewal, and trainer Mick Appleby is hopeful of a big run if they do go.

He said: “We’re not going to decide until the day we have to supplement him and we’ll look at what the ground is going to be. If its good or good to firm, I’d say we’re 99% certain…”

VIA FRANCE

Having burst onto the scene this year, George Boughey's VIA SISTINA is set to head to France for her next start in the Group 1 Prix Jean Romanet at Deauville later this month.

The 4 year old was disappointing in the Group 1 Falmouth Stakes where we last saw her in mid July having landed the Group 1 Pretty Polly before that, but with a month's break into her Boughey admits that she is in great shape at her ahead of her trip to France.

He continued “she'd had two quick runs and we've got to pick our battles - you can't run in every race, and it's been the plan to run in the Romanet for a long time should the ground be right for her. It's the last four year old and above fillies only race for her this year and we're very pleased with her work. She worked Monday morning, Jamie Spencer sat on her and was very happy”.

BATTLE OFF THE TRACK

Mike and Eileen Newbould, prominent owners of the Dan Skelton trained THIRD TIME LUCKI, WEST CORK and WILLIAM YORK, will see all of their horses sold at the Goffs Doncaster sale today as they disperse their racing and breeding ventures.

The owners have experienced Graded success twice since the start of the 2021/2022 season as THIRD TIME LUCKI won the November Novices Chase in 21 and the Lightning Novices Chase two months later, while WEST CORK landed the 2021 Greatwood hurdle.

There's a sad reason behind this all. Mike has been on a daily dose of chemo which has been slowly “getting worse”.

With the sale of his horses today, something Mike has described as “absolutely gut wrenching”, it makes for a sound and sensible financial decision so his wife isn't left with the burden of 20 horses should the worst happen.

YOUNG BLOOD

18.20 YARMOUTH

DUBAI TREASURE is a Godolphin homebred by EXCEED AND EXCEL. She made a really encouraging debut against a filly who had had a run and went on to win a Gr3 convincingly. 3rd from her debut has since won at Goodwood by 2 lengths. Obvious claims.

FAITHFUL SPRINGS by OASIS DREAM. Dam won a Listed race over 6f. Made a respectable debut at HQ, form looks mixed. Needs to improve a lot to get the scalp of DUBAI TREASURE.

FARIHA is by SHAMARDAL o/o a Gr3 winner, dam already produced AL MUBHIR who was listed placed (won on debut). Market to guide.

QUEEN’S GUARD by HAVANA GREY and o/o a KYLLACHY mare the ground shouldn’t be an issue if there is any cut in it. Was well beaten on debut in to 4th and the 2nd place didn’t do the form any good yesterday. Best watched.

RUN FOR THE SUN cost a hefty 170k, which is a lot for these owners. She was a breeze up, by Make Believe, dam was useless, market to guide but best watched in this company

SUICIDE BLONDE was well beaten by DUBAI TREASURE, it will be hard for her to change that form around today.

VOLKAN BEY by CALYX, cost 150k as a breeze up, she’s a half sister to a horse who was Gr2 placed. Best watched on debut.

URBAN LOVE and FORGOTTEN TREASURE look like they’ll be there to gain some racecourse experience.

Verdict: This looks to be between the two Godolphin nags with DUBAI TREASURE coming out clear on numbers. She really should win but there has been a telling squeeze on FAITHFUL SPRINGS and a few whispers to boot.

Watch the market, the boys in blue will know. Winner should be one of them.

STATS OF THE DAY

Two places for the stats yesterday. Only one stand out today:

Hannon is 2 from 2 in the 17.30 and sends OPTIVA STAR for his hat trick bid.
