Equinties - unlucky Andrew

Equinties

Gm Equinauts

A boring day with the rain scuppering most of the racing. We quite fancied playing a sloppy acca at Uttoxeter… but that’s winter weather for you.

The weather has not only affected today’s racing, but also tomorrow’s as Ascot have quickly made the decision to move Champions day racing to it’s inner track.

With the deluge of rain and even more expected, it might not make much of a difference to those eyeing up the mud lovers, but best to wait for the morning when the going has been announced.

Let’s dive in.

Our sponsor UK MEDS are the only online pharma-distributor to have the fat loss jab OZEMPIC in stock ever since Elon Musk tweeted about it creating a shortage.

HEADLINE ROUND UP

ANTE-POST MAYHEM

Racing X was at it’s near best yesterday as the rigmarole of trying to work out where exactly Mullins intended to send horses caused the more easily excitable racing fans to get up in arms over Willie’s decision to send GAEILIC WARRIOR over fences (instead of his much anticipated route of remaining over hurdles).

Owner Rich Ricci had mentioned previously that continuing over hurdles but, he’s not the trainer and, as we know, animals are animals and for whatever reason, they’ve been tempted to target the Brown Advisory.

The Stayers’ ante-post bettors were obviously loudest in their criticism over the 180 turn but is that noise warranted?

Firstly, guessing races this far out really is gambling. It’s why we rarely, rarely post ante-post bets, there are just too many things that can go wrong - injury and weather the big ones.

Secondly, Willie doesn’t care about anyone’s £10 ante-post acca and him u-turning to give his big owner the best chance of a Festival winner is absolutely fine. Anyone who backed GW for the Stayer’s needs to own their risk. Also don’t throw your slips out just yet… Willie can u-turn again if GW doesn’t cut it over fences.

In short, GAELIC WARRIOR over fences, over hurdles, you really shouldn’t be caring about that at this point in time. Wait for show time.

And that’s coming from the people who did this:

UNLUCKY, ANDREW

Superstitious owner Sheikh Obaid has removed his horses from Balding’s yard on the basis, wait for it… Andrew is unlucky LMAO.

After the likes of CAVIAR HEIGHTS and ARABIC LEGEND were put in their place at short odds, they now find themselves in a lorry heading north to Karl Burke’s yard.

Burkey’s going to have to build ANOTHER new barn, as don’t forget he’s also been the recent beneficiary of a few of Obaid’s horses coming from the Crisford’s yard.

Commenting on the matter, Balding has stated: “ We had a lot of money to spend at the sales on his behalf and he sent us some very nice homebred’s but it didn’t work out. I half expected, he said to me a few times ‘I don’t think you’re lucky’.

God forbid Burke goes through a quiet spell next year…

POINTING TO FUTURE WINNERS

The Coral Gold Cup at Newbury in early December is a marquee event of the national hunt season and from this year, they will be holding a new Goffs sale after racing for the sale of point-to-pointers, adding to Goffs’ growing list of headline sales (Aintree, Punchestown, Sandown and Yorton).

The re-introduction for the event comes less thn 10 years since Newbury’s last sale which saw good success in UN TEMPS POUR TOUT selling for a world record price.

FORTE RETIRED

YOUNG BLOOD

17.30 NEWCASTLE

LAST APPLAUSE has moved in to favourite, she was prepped for the breeze up sales before being withdrawn. Ran well on debut, won nto and comes here off the back of that win. Has a 4lb penalty to give away though.

ELEGANT MADAME won cosily on debut and then failed to land a blow in Listed company nto. Big drop back down in grade and is considered, even with her penalty.

RICCOBONI by TOO DARN HOT, dam is a full sister to Gr1W and Champion FANTASTIC LIGHT. Market to guide for her debut run but best watched. Entered in Tattersalls’ upcoming HIT Sale.

SOUTH KENSINGTON needs to put his two previous runs behind him and improve but this looks a race in which he’ll get a mark and go from there.

FROST AT DAWN is by Godolphin dirt stallion FROSTED, it’s a good distaff line as well. There has been some market support for her this morning.

ELEGANT APPEAL was a 80k yearling purchase, she has come last on both her starts to date. Cheekpieces go on. Needs big improvement.

Verdict: A girls race so anything can happen here but the market has found the right horse in LAST APPLAUSE who has best claims. Could be followed home by Elegant Madame.
