All eye’s on one race today, PUBLISH versus BOW ECHO. They both look like absolute weapons and whoever comes out on top will be a huge contender for next years Guineas.
We know who we like.
Let’s dive in.
HEADLINE ROUNDUP
BEAUTIFUL BAAEED BROTHER
There’s a lot to get through in today’s newsletter, so we’ll keep this news section short and sweet, but we have to mention RAAHEEB, BAAEED’s full brother, who won at Ascot yesterday.
He was always going to be a hype horse because of his relations, but he looked nice and professional on his first career start to power down the outside of his rivals and win under Jim Crowley.
Much like his two full brothers, BAAEED and HUKUM, he’s not meant to be this fast, precocious juvenile. He is very much next year’s horse, and he will stay a lot further than yesterday’s seven-furlong trip, so to get his career off in a successful manner is positive.
For now, connections don’t want to rush into anything, despite the quotes of 8/1 for the Group 2 Royal Lodge Stakes at Newmarket at the end of this month.
Trainer Owen Burrows said: "He's got a very laid-back attitude and I thought from that draw in stall one he was very professional. He got a lot of cover but he travelled well and went through the race very pleasingly.
"No horse is going to quicken in this ground too much but he lengthened and hit the line strongly. He's a miler now, and I think he'll be a mile-and-a-quarter, or a mile-and-a-half horse next year.
"Once he switches on he'll be better. Jim [Crowley] said going under the tunnel there he tripped twice because he was half asleep, but that's a good way to have them at this stage.”
Angus Gold, racing manager for Shadwell, added: "The Royal Lodge would be straight into deeper territory. I'd have loved to have gone for the Haynes, Hanson & Clark Stakes but that's even quicker and that's a no-no. There's possibly the Somerville Tattersall Stakes [on September 25] but we'll just go gently with him.
"He's a big, raw horse and it's more about the future. It's just lovely to see he's got the ability to do that first time."
Anything to do with BAAEED is very exciting. If he’s half the horse of him, he will be very exciting to watch.
