We were at Cheltenham yesterday and found someone who landed the placepot. If you’re a good punter, it’s generally not hard to find a horse in every race to go close. The chances of winning are quite high and the payouts are huge.

More, pro punters are simply using the Tote as a means to get big bets on.

We really are for the Tote. Unfamiliar with it? Check it out with the link below.

We are punters and the Tote is the punters friend:

Let’s dive in.

HEADLINE ROUNDUP

THE GREATEST GAME

This game really has a great way of reminding us that we don’t know everything. In fact, sometimes it can lead you to think that you actually know nothing.

The market couldn’t have him, Timeform had him wrong at the ratings by 20lbs+, and his trainer was going to pull him from the race in the morning, and still, FORTUNE DE MER won the Grade 2 Sharp Novices’ Hurdle yesterday.

Coming into the race, the facts of the horse were well-known. Yes, he was given a tender ride at Uttoxeter, but that’s was because he is a nutcase that Harry Skelton had trouble controlling. Still, travelling down the Cheltenham hill, there was only one winner, and that certainly wasn’t the favourite, UN SENS A LA VIE.

FORTUNE DE MER was travelled well around a familiar course to him, and even when it looked like it was all a bit too late, the striking chestnut pulled out enough to get his head in front. Fair play, we’ll hold our hands up here, we got it wrong.

In the post-script, Dan Skelton made his intentions known. The race this horse will be targeted at is the County Hurdle.

This is similar to VALGRAND last season in the fact that VALGRAND won this race last year, and he ended up in the County Hurdle eventually. The difference is that Skelton pondered whether he was a Supreme horse, but POTTERS CHARM smashing him in November soon told him he wasn’t.

This lad will have one target, and Skelton will make sure he is 100% for it.
Yesterday’s effort was objectively nice, as he quickened when he was asked to, and he clearly likes the track.

Skelton can work his magic from now until March to get this lad to hit the frame in a County, but there are still a few small worries.
Skelton may think he is better with a bigger field, but there is no basis behind this claim, and we know he’s a hot-head. Will a big-field handicap on Cheltenham Gold Cup Day fry his brains? Maybe.

Also, he drifted alarmingly in the betting, as, weirdly, did UN SENS A LA VIE. Did anything else come for money? JACK HYDE and THE LAST CLOUD did a little bit, but it would have been for small money at big prices.

There is a chance that yesterday’s race wasn’t that good, and FORTUNE DE MER could have been slightly flattered by the result. Time will tell.

Away from the track, David Maxwell sold all his horses. The list is detailed below.

Maxwell also revealed yesterday that he turned down £600k for EL CARIOS, and he has now sold the horse for £410k. Win some, lose some.

Anyway, thank you, David. It’s been a privilege to have you in the sport.
