Nice blow out for RANGER THUNDERBOLT (we named him) yesterday. Draw did fuck him a little but I think he’ll come on for that and be winning soon.

I was disappointed we didn’t get to LADY ADARE yesterday. Is Fry ever going to run her!? He’s obviously got a plan, his yard is in good form. I think she’s a Graded horse.

I had high hopes for my only other good bet, BAILEY GATE for Hannon yesterday but apparently, a big Twitter tipster ruined the ew play. Wasn’t 11/4 when we picked it out. BAILEY GATE was moved to the top yard at Hannon’s last month after doing a good bit of work. Judging by yesterday's run, he’ll shit in over 7f.

Let’s dive in.

Headline Roundup

Bear market? This is a stallion market.

We are deep into stud fee announcement season and two huge operations released the price tags for their big name stallions.

The day kicked off with Juddmonte announcing that FRANKEL’s stud fee would be rising to £275,000 from £200,000 for the 2023 covering season, a price tag that at the time made their son of GALILEO Europe’s most expensive sire.

Anything Juddmonte can do, Darley can do better, as hours after that announcement they gave a big fuck you to Juddmonte revealing that their flagship Stallion DUBAWI would have his stud fee increased to £350,000. That is prime shithousery.

The son of DUBAI MILLENNIUM hadn’t seen his price change from £250,000 since 2017, however, after yesterday’s news, he is now the most expensive stallion in Europe.

Elsewhere across the breeding world, the recently retired FLIGHTLINE will stand for $200,000 at Lanes End Farm, KINGMAN’s fee has decreased £25,000, and BAAEED will stand for £80,000 in his debut Stallion season - Shadwell’s superstar was also named as the Cartier Horse of the Year.

New Hennessy fancy

Dan Skelton’s LE MILOS has been cut to as short as 8/1 for the Coral Gold Cup, also known as the old Hennessy, following his success at Bangor yesterday.

The seven-year-old streaked clear under a fairly calm Harry Skelton to stake his claims for the famous 3m2f contest at Newbury this month.

Post-race, Dan Skelton said: “I thought he’d need the run - we were looking at the Grand National but that’s a long way off. I didn’t want to have him too overdone at the start of the year because I wanted him to last, but after that we’re going to have to go to Newbury. He took me by surprise a little bit.”

A MAGICAL trip to Japan

This season’s Irish Oaks heroine MAGICAL LAGOON is set to make one more appearance before the start of 2023 as connections are are sending their superstar to the Gr1 Japan Cup later this month.

The GALILEO filly is already over in Japan and is in “perfect condition” ahead of her end of season target in Asia according to Kate Harrington, assistant to trainer Jessica in Ireland.

MAGICAL LAGOON is a huge 66/1 for the 12 furlong contest and Kate has nothing but gold things to say about her, as she told Thoroughbred Daily News: “She lost a nice bit of weight traveling here, but she's back to her best weight now. With Shane riding her today, she knows it's coming close to the race date, she's in perfect condition and we couldn't be happier with her. She's taking everything well in her stride and settled in really well with the surroundings here.”

ALENQUER off down under

If the likes of SOULCOMBE, DURSTON, ZAAKI, REKINDLING, EL BODEGON, CROSS COUNTER and more do so well down under then this lad is going to tear it up! I mean, Christ! Even PRINCE OF ARRAN was good out there.

GHANDI to MAKER amends (okay, that was bad)

Subject to a big Racing Post gamble story lto (it’s easy clicks for a struggling paper), GHANDI MAKER goes for redemption in the 15.45.

Trainer, Coltherd’s only other runner is HIDDEN COMMANDER, who actually used to be owned by GHANDI MAKER’S current owner, Adam McCormack (I imagine he’s still got a leg).

HIDDEN COMMANDER is a bit of a head scratcher having not nearly lived up to his promising Point win.

Can MCCormack land the double today? It would be a big two fingers to the RP.

CHASING the money

One of the biggest gambles of last season, CHASING FIRE is back out today. Priced up long odds on, eyes will be on him today as a potentially nice prospect moving forward for Olly Murphy.

Risk On

Two small speccy plays on breeding Taunton will be quick and it’s a tight track:

14.25 MIDNIGHT MIDGE

Taking on Hendo’s well backed fave (form is too shit to follow the money) w/ MIDNIGHT MIDGE. Having come from two shit trainers, if Hobbs’ has him right today, he could be seriously well handicapped.

15.35 BORN AT MIDNIGHT

This is a really low grade race, one I’d normally steer clear of but I think this horse is better than 79 or whatever he’s off today. This poor lad has actually not finished more races than he’s completed but there have been some excuses like falling, slipping up and being brought down (he should have bolted up this time last year when falling at last). I think if he’s ever going to win, it’ll be today in these quick condition against yaks.

Small singles and a small 48/1 ew double.

14.40 PLANNED PARADISE

Has had a run to fired up for today and clear on numbers. Only negative carries top weight but he’s a great jumper and strong galloper which will suit track.

Full bet at 7/4
