JOCKEY CHANGE

Earlier in the week, we spoke about Aidan O’Brien’s St Leger jockeys. We assumed Sean Levey would be on SCANDINAVIA because he would have gotten first choice, but it’s actually the other way around, as Tom Marquand is set to ride the Leger favourite.

Levey is set to partner LAMBOURN, and Mickael Barzalona will be on STAY TRUE.
As we suggested when we first brought up O’Brien’s Leger jockey bookings, this has to be a better move for all the people who have backed SCANDINAVIA.

Marquand is factually a better rider than Levey (from skewed stats), and he has plenty of confidence currently thanks to William Haggas’ great stable form. If you’ve already backed the Goodwood Cup winner for the Leger, you must be happy with the jockey booking, right?

Of course, the argument could be made that Levey “picking” LAMBOURN over SCANDINAVIA is a negative towards the current market leader, but we wouldn’t read it this way. Ryan Moore is probably the only person who gets to choose his rides if there is a decision to make. Do we really think that O’Brien lined up all three of his Leger chances in Levey and said “pick one”? No.

Levey’s comments in the Post agree with this, as he said: "The three of us were told who we were riding, none of us had any idea until conversations were had by everyone and that's the conclusion they came to. Getting rides like this for the St Leger is 100 per cent a thrill."

So, that’s O’Brien’s riders sorted for the Leger. Roll on the big day.

That said, after all this guessing with Ryan Moore absent, it’ll be lols if the outsider STAY TRUE won. He’s seriously unexposed and improving!
