It simply cannot be overstated how important the last few days have been for BGP Capital, the racing investment club affiliated with this newsletter.

LAND FORCE had a wild start to his stallion career with 2 winners from only 4 runners and could well be the best start if any first season sire this season (I'd need to check that). Moreover, Tate's Ascot winner NATURAL FORCE, is the same 'cross' as the BGP Capital LAND FORCE (LAND FORCE o/o a REDOUTES CHOICE mare).

BGP Capital also saw a nice page boost to their filly by IFFRAAJ as LOWTON, her half bro by PIVOTAL, sluiced up to confirm the promise he showed on debut. He looks a good horse to follow and should only add value to BGP Capital's IFFRAAJ filly as a broodmare prospect.

It wont be long until the BGP Capital horses are on the track and hopefully they can carry the strong traits evidenced already by their blood lines. If you are interested in joining the unique club next year, more information will available in July/August ahead of the October yearling sales.

Now, for the racing...

Headline round up

ADAYAR 2.0

The full brother to the 2021 Derby winner, ADAYAR, continued his four-race winning run on Saturday at Lingfield as MILITARY ORDER won the Derby Trial in a tough battle with our 10/1 selection WAIPIRO.

Jockey William Buick was given a dream opening on the inside of the bend on the all-weather and the duo pulled four lengths clear of the third, CIRCLE OF FIRE, as they both showed a good turn off foot up the home straight.

MILITARY ORDER certainly wont got off as big as ADAYAR did for the Derby and is now the 9/2 second favourite for the Epsom Derby to try and emulate the success of his brother two years on, so, can he do it?

Looking at his Linfield win, possibly, he was given a lovely opening on the rail, however, visually both MO and WAIPIRO looked to hack with good power to the line and the times back that up as the Derby Trial was as fast as the Oaks Trial from the three-pole to the line, however, the colts race was run three seconds quicker overall.

Blue is the colour

Blue was the favourite colour in France yesterday as both of the Guineas went to blue silks in the form of MARHABA YA SANAFI in the 2000 and BLUE ROSE CEN in the 1000.

And it was the latter who lit up Longchamp in the afternoon sun as the Christopher Head-trained three-year-old powered to the front under an Aurelien Lemaitre hands and heals ride to win the Poule d’Essai des Pouliches by a comfy two lengths.

The success was a second Group 1 for the CHURCHILL filly and it looks like the Prix de Diane (French Oaks) is next on the agenda for this extremely exciting racehorse.

As for the former, he sprung a bit of a surprise in the Poule d’Essai des Poulains at 26/1 with the warm favourite AMERICAN FLAG unplaced after what people must have thought was the worst ride of the day (until they saw Moore on NEVER ENDING STORY).

It was a horrid run through for the favourite who was stuck on the inside and boxed in having missed the start by a good five lengths – he was never winning that after the break, but unfortunately, that’s how racing goes sometimes.

As for the winner, he is owned by Jaber Abdullah who is having a great time of things in this year’s Guineas thanks to his MUHAARAR winner yesterday, HI ROYAL’s second in the British equivalent, and DANCE IN THE GRASS staying on well into fifth in the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket. It looks like he has built a nice, strong squad of horses for this years campaign.

Top SHAG?

Probably.

We are looking back to Friday for our final performance review and it’s one we are all looking forward to as SHAGPYLE, a FRANKEL half-sis to PYLEDRIVER, bolted up on debut at Ascot by two lengths.

The maiden stakes at Ascot was over 1m2f and PYLEDRIVER was a winner over 1m4f in the King George at Ascot on his last start – PYLEDRIVER is by HARBOUR WATCH (6f) so with SHAGPYLE by FRANKEL, you would think that she could drastically improve further in time.

The big targets for her are next year and hopefully the year after that and she probably won’t be seen much as a three-year-old this campaign, but she is certainly one to be very excited by.

NEW FEATURE - YOUNG BLOOD

Notes on pedigree, attractive crosses and sales trends

14.20 Catterick

A maiden for fillies.

MAJESTIC BEAUTY is by HAVANA GREY who cost £90,000 as a Breeze Up so she’ll know her job. Consigned by Robson Aguiar who as we know, is the secret sauce behind the Amo horses, this filly was for himself and he picked her up for 40k. Half sister to DOUBLE GAIN who was 3rd in the Gr3 Solario Stakes.

SPECIFIC TIMES is by BLUE POINT out of DAILY TIMES who was unsold for 600k carrying this filly in utero. She did however sell for 800k last year in foal to LOPE DE VEGA. She is a winning half sister to dual Gr1 winner NEWSPAPEROFRECORD (LOPE DE VEGA) and from the family of Irish Derby winner LATROBE. Fifth on debut at Newmarket, maybe she didn’t handle the dip?

HARVANNA was a 9,000gns foal flipped into €58,000 yearling - good business. HAVANA GREY is having a mighty time of it lately, another 2yo winner yesterday at Hamilton. This filly’s mother ran in Norway and Sweden and she has produced 2 winners from 4 foals, DYNAMIGHTY won abroad and JAZZY SOCKS won a race at 2 years and is rated 56. Not the most inspiring pedigree but HAVANA GREY seems to be improving his mares that he covers.

VERDICT: Alice Haynes has two classy Havana Grey 2yo’s in her stable; GOLDEN ARROW who won at Hamilton yesterday and MAXIMUM IMPACT who won at Ascot recently. MAJESTIC BEAUTY could be her HAVANA GREY treble.

Risk on

There's a nice little mares bumper at Southwell this evening, we'll post a preview on twitter @equinties.

20.05 ALBA LONGA

We head to 'Monday night Windsor' for this girl. She's by MUHAARER who sired the Guineas winner at Longchamp and his stock improve from 2 to 3 years old, so we should see a much better horse today, even despite the absence of a recent run. This girl was only beaten lto by SEA OF ROSES, a filly Andrew loves, who ran a decent second in an Oaks trial in France (we backed at 16's) and INFINITE COSMOS who is a machine and probably wins the Oaks. ALBA LONGA is definitely the best horse in this race but only a half bet is advised as despite the expectation to be competitive on seasonal debut, she might need the blow today and is up against already race fit rivals. That is the only reason she will get beat today, so whatever happens, she will be one to follow, that is assured. Half bet on the drift out to 9/4.

Staking and banking

You need to manage risk by limiting bet size to a fixed % of your bank. The reality is, if you have an edge that'll prove profitable over say, 100 trades, but there will be times when you have a string of losses - that could be 10 losing bets in a row, it happens.

To avoid blowing the account, managing risk to a fixed, low percentage is the only way to stay in the game.

There was a lot of positive feedback recently from people benefitting from our staking advice. Well, and general bank roll tips too. So we'll keep it here as a reminder.

If you want to take punting seriously and use racing as a value add to your life, keep a betting bank, protect it at all times (none of this 'ah we're on a bull run, I'll stick a few stupid bets on') and stick to risking the % stakes, upping notional as the bank grows. Betting banks will change your punting forever.

Help keep a healthy bank by betting less and using the TOTE Fantasy game to feed the chimp.
