Trainers are important to consider when backing horses. There are some trainers we would never back full stop and there are some trainers we’d back blind.
Our tweet last night was a little misconstrued, owed to poor wording.
It’s a shame Opulence sent BEVERAGINO to Michael Bell. Gorgeous filly at the sales but might struggle to fulfil her potential.
Wanna hit the other B’s with a horse like that - Balding, Boughey or Burke. Not Bell!

Michael Bell is a brilliant trainer for older horses.
He takes his time with them and most forge long racing careers. We would send him a stayer. In fact, a friend of ours recently has (a nice MAKE BELIEVE) and will be one to back next year.
It’s for the reasons above he perhaps doesn't have as many 2yo winners, as reflected in his stats, compared to other trainers who excel with young ones… the Burkes, the Boughey's and the Balding’s of the racing world.
Let’s dive in.
BGP FANTASY LEAGUE COMP
We’ve been hyping up the TOTE’s new Fantasy game since we found it. Why? Simply because there is nothing else out there now which can help people cage the betting chimp while maintaining an emotional interest in the big races of the day.
People bet way too much and the Fantasy allows you to get limited risk on, fill your brain up with the dope it craves and still be in the mix for a big win.
If we hit 100 stables today, top of the BGP private league get’s a new ‘GM’ cap.
HEADLINE ROUND UP
SedOFF
The Irish will be hoping to retain the American Grand National later this year as John McConnell's SEDDON will be targeted for the big US Grade 1 contest.
The Cheltenham and Punchestown Festival winner improved 25 pounds over fences and 18 pounds over hurdles last season following his departure from Harry Whittingdon and the McNeil family to County Meath and the Galaxy Horse Racing Syndicate.
🇮🇪 Another Irish-trained winner - Seddon strikes in the @MagnersUK Plate Handicap Chase for @McConnellRacing & Ben Harvey

Following a good summer break, the Far Hills feature in October is on the agenda as Derek McGeenam, co-founder of the syndicate, said: “the first thing he said in the parade ring after he won at Leopardstown was that the horse had the American National written all over him. He's very quick and his racing star should suit over there. As it stands he will run at Killarney on the flat before he goes to America. Ben Harvey will be a huge asset for us as he is a very calm jockey with an excellent clock in his head”.
Gear by name…
Sticking with Ireland and syndicate news, jockey Gearoid Brouder has been banned for four years by the IHRB having tested positive for a metabolite of cocaine at Gowran Park on May 10th…the same day he was given a 21 day suspension for not riding the Charles Burns trained ELLAAT to its full potential.
Forgotten about that story? Maybe this will jog your memory:
Trainer Charles Byrnes has been fined €6,000 and apprentice jockey Gearoid Brouder banned for 21 racedays after stewards deemed they had prevented Ellaat from running on its merits at Gowran Park on Wednesday

Firstly another drug ban in our sport is bad, it doesn't matter who did it or how prominent they are, it's bad and only aids the views of those with limited knowledge of the sport that racing is a dark and dirty sport. It’s not, only a bit of it is.
This story has been picked up widely on Racing Twitter thanks to this guy:
Cathal Byrnes has absolutely disgraced himself on @RacingTV and they didn't push back.
I dare @RacingTV to clip it.

For those who missed it and we’re not gonna lie - we don't even know the full story, Icy has clearly had a falling out with the Byrnes syndicate he was pumping on his account. One can only assume Icy is a bit embarrassed selling something for people he’s had a big falling out with, so has gone full send with trolling on social media.
Thank god no one ever taught him not to air his dirty laundry in public because it is all very amusing.

Not only do we have a field full of class, but what a betting market it could be for such a prestigious race. 7/2 the field in a high class Group 1 is almost a thing of racing folklore these days, yet we have the Epson Derby 1 & 2, the Brigadier Gerrard winner at 4’s, last year's Oaks 2nd at 5’s, last year's winner at 7’s and even the high class animals of SIMKA MILLE and DEAUVILLE LEGEND at 33’s
Also in the field, and on a resurgence mission the 2022 Derby winner DESERT CROWN. He is in good form according to connections and William Buick is set to get the ride over Richard Kingscote.
STATS OF THE DAY
ELUSIVE EMPIRE is sent all the way to Musselburgh for the 15.05. Archie lands 1 in 3 when his lorry clocks this much mileage.
RISK ON
Bad racing today, no bets.
