HEADLINE ROUNDUP

🚀GOING DOWN AT SANDOWN

Sandown plays host to a MEGA card today and the feature race is obviously the one racing X has been salivating over since dec’s, the Group 2 Mile (we refuse to call these races by their bookies sponsored names when we can’t even use the firms ourselves).

FIELD OF GOLD heads the market. What an up and down year he had last year, not from fault of his own. He should have hosed up in the 2000 Guineas but for being given an absolute SHOCKER by ‘King Shoey’ (NO!). The ride was so bad, Shoemark was canned. Harsh but fair. FIELD OF GOLD made amends at both the Irish Guineas and then at Royal Ascot in the St James’s Palace Stakes:

His last two runs at the end of a long season can be forgotten about. He will be bloody hard to beat today if back to his best!

ZEUS OLYMPIOS is unbeaten for Burke and funnily enough, they fancy him today. Shock. They think he’s the second coming. By gun sire NIGHT OF THUNDER, he’s out of a horse called RHEA who is from an okay family without being any thing special. It’s safe to say this horse has come out of no where, although the NIGHT OF THUNDER - SIYOUNI cross did produce Group 3 winner FAIRY GODMOTHER for Ballydoyle.

We know OPERA BALLO has turned inside out since last year, he’s a different horse and much improved. The boys at Godolphin think he will come second behind FIELD OF GOLD.

Of the rest, DANCING GEMINI needs to be more reliable and CICERO’S GIFT needs to prove his QE II win wasn’t a fluke.

Verdict: we’ve heard FIELD OF GOLD is only about 85% fit but with the weight he gets and his class, that might be enough for a winning return. Plus, we’re wondering why big John would send him here undercooked when his stallion career is on the line, it needs to be as blemish-free as possible. We think he should be winning this, despite the crows from Burkes yard about their star.

Godolphin are adamant OPERA BALLO will run a huge race. If you fancy playing an exotic in this race with those two, time to try the Tote. Play the FIELD OF GOLD and OPERA BALLO rev forecast here: Tote | Offers

🧮THE ODDS!

This happened yesterday:

To the eye, the stat is absolutely unbelievable. Like, impossible-level stat.

When the first dead-heat between the brothers first happened, Alan Johns tried to do some fag packet maths, concluding that the brothers were more than likely to get struck by lightening twice, over a dead-heat between them ever happening again.

Yet, they did dead-heat. And they haven’t been struck by lightening twice…not even once!

So, why have the maths not math’d for Alan, and what are the true odds off the brotherly dead heat?

About 1 in several thousand. Sorry, it’s not rarer than that.

And those figures actually align to reality - what has actually occurred, over it being some freak chance of lightening striking twice.

The reason being is because the dead-heat wasn’t pure luck, it’s elite overlap.

At first? Yeh, it looks like a freak coincidence whereas in reality, it’s what happens when two of the best jockeys operate in the same small, competitive pool—rare events start to cluster.

🎯ANOTHER DART FOR MICHAEL OWEN

Luke Littler, the reigning PDC world champion, has stepped into racehorse ownership with Stephen Bunting and bought a young colt trained by Hugo Palmer.

They’ve named him BUNTING MENTAL after the darts chant ‘let’s go Bunting mental’.

That’s jokes.

The horse will be trained by Palmer at Manor House Stables, the yard owned by former footballer Michael Owen, who is also involved in the ownership.

Purchased for £54,000, he’s apparently been showing encouraging signs in training, though he is not expected to make his racecourse debut until the summer.

Palmer has been pleased with his progress so far and is optimistic about his potential, suggesting the horse could provide plenty of enjoyment for his high-profile owners as he develops.
