How good is the Olympics!?
It completely saved yesterday when the skies were grey and the racing as miserable. Imagine if the racing was like that all the time, be enough to make you want to quit it!
But luckily it wasn’t your average ‘Monday’, it was an ‘Olympic Monday’, where crazy sports are shown back to back all day and through to the late evening, stirring up so much emotion and patriotism you find yourself screaming for people you’ve never heard of but who quickly turn into a hero overnight.
We’ll miss the Olympics so so much.
It helps that we’re pretty f*cking good at it too, here’s the live medals table:
Let’s dive in.
HEADLINE ROUNDUP
MOVIN TO THE MOULIN
Glorious Goodwood looked like it was going to lack a bit of fire when ROSALLION was ruled out of the Sussex Stakes at the 11th hour due to a respiratory infection.
However, NOTABLE SPEECH made up for his absence in breath-taking fashion, which now has us asking about whether the two could take on each other once again.
🇬🇧 #Dubawi’s outstanding son Notable Speech became the first horse since Frankel to win the 2,000 Guineas and the Sussex Stakes, bringing up the sire’s 50th G1 win for @godolphin! 🔵
Not only that, but he also won both races in a faster time than Frankel himself! 🔥

As is with training horses, nothing is certain, but it seems as if Richard Hannon is not overly attracted about running in the Breeders’ Cup Mile at the end of the year, a race NOTABLE SPEECH is likely to be in.
He said: " I don't know, I'll have to discuss it with Sheikh Mohammed Obaid. We'll know more after that but he's not mad on it.
"We don't have much more to prove this year but there are other options. Next season would be good. I don't know about travelling yet. There's plenty of races and ways of going about it but we need to consider next year as well."
To be honest, this sucks. The one thing that ROSALLION needs to run well is quick ground and the place you are almost guaranteed to get it is in America at the Breeders’ Cup.
He also showed he handles a bend by winning at Ascot, and Sheikh Mohammed Obaid is a willing owner, so why wouldn’t you go to America?
As for his next race, Hannon said: “He's a lot brighter and he'll be back to normal in no time. We're going to wait for him to be fully right before we make a decision but the [Prix du] Moulin is an option."
Let’s hope Hannon and Sheikh Mohammed Obaid come around on the idea of a trip across the Atlantic.
HYPE HORSES
We all love a hype horse. Not just because they are exciting, but because they are also there for the cynics to throw stones at.
In all honesty, they suit everyone. You either love them or hate them. Classic marmite.
Ahead of the jumps season starting in roughly two months – yes, two months – AUORA VEGA is one of these hype horses due to her pedigree and facile 13-length victory on her debut over timber.
There’s a lot to like about her on her page as she is out of QUEVEGA, making her a full brother to the late FACILE VEGA.
But we just aren’t sold.
Last season, she won two nothing bumpers before winning a Listed bumper at Gowran Park and the second, SHARP OBJECT, has been beaten 16l, 64l, and 11l since.
Listed bumper scorer Aurora Vega (Walk In The Park x Quevega) makes the perfect start over timber at @corkracecourse 🏆

AURORA VEGA was then beaten by her lesser-fancied stablemate FLEUR AU FUSIL at the DRF and she failed to make up for that at the Punchestown Festival.
One can imagine she will be short odds to win another novice hurdle on her next start, and she will probably go an oblige in an easy race, but when she steps into better company, she looks like the perfect type to take on for some market value.
MORNY FOR SHAREHOLDER
France is on the agenda for Karl Burke’s SHAREHOLDER as the unbeaten son of NOT THIS TIME will head to the Group 1 Prix Morny.

Won last year by VANDEEK, the €460,000 breeze-up purchase has been rested since his victory in the Group 2 Norfolk Stakes and he is set to try and defend the crown for Britain at Deauville on August 18th.
“Shareholder is in great nick. Karl says he’s grown and strengthened and we obviously gave him a break after Ascot which he needed,” said Richard Brown, European racing adviser for Wathnan Racing.
“It’s all systems go for the Morny, hopefully. James is going to ride him work this week and it will be the first time he has sat on him since Ascot. As long as everything goes smoothly with that, it is very much the Morny next.
“He’s a very exciting colt who has already given us a massive day and now we will see what he can do over six furlongs. We’re hoping over six he will have an electric turn of foot.”
The form of his Norfolk looks alright as WHISTLEJACKET (4th) has won a Group 2 since, AESTERIUS (5th) was second to BIG MOJO at Goodwood and ARIZONA BLAZE (3rd) ran behind HENRI MATISSE on his next start.
RISK ON
No return from our one and only bet yesterday ALAZWAR. The drift before the off stunk and we think with the late ground change (firm changed to soft!) that he was saved for another day on quick ground he needs. One to follow.
15.05 STARK WARNING
No doubt the best race of the day with some lovely pedigree’s on display and with Beckett’s taking up so much of the market, its worth trying to find an ew swing. BOLD IMPACT is heavy odds on fave here so he might instruct Hornby to let Clippers win (“they can’t do that, that’s cheating”…lol), but on a pure pedigree basis, it’s Beckett’s other horse we fancy if the mud is slow enough. Yesterdays conditions at Carlisle changed quickly and Ffos las’ might too so don’t play until the off. If the going description changes to good, leave it. A small bet at 10/1 on another tough day. The better bets are coming.
19.17 GREEN ICON
Word for this horse on debut but he was given a nice intro. Been smashed in the market at 2/1 on, so add it to another for a bit of leverage.
