The newsletter had one of its most successful/disastrous previews ever last weekend.

Okay, let's get the disastrous bit out of the way. The 'Pauling's best horse ever' and 'Hannon's Guineas filly' bets didn't land - fine, that shit happens. They were both first time out, but they'll be bigger prices next time (I know for a FACT they are proper horses and were just looked after).

But the previews... THEY FUCKED. BRAVEMANSGAME won on the bridle, the Skeltons pillaged Wetherby and the Ascot bumper preview was as accurate as normal. I really should just bet bumpers.

You: is he going to get through this newsletter without pumping that anti-hangover MYRKL pill to me, I wonder?

No, I feel fresh af this morning after drinking a million Guinesses yesterday and won't stop till you've at least tried it.

Headline Roundup

BRAVEMANSGAME IS BACK

Paul Nicholls’ BRAVEMANSGAME put the haters to sleep and defied the drift in the market on Saturday to win the Grade 2 Charlie Hall Chase in sumptuous style as the favourite, AHOY SENOR, bombed out and finished a 39-length last at 11/10.

The two-time Grade 1-winning seven-year-old travelled all over his four rivals and out jumped one of the outsiders of the field, SAM BROWN, at the second last to hit the front and he never looked back – questions were raised by a few people on Twitter about whether he found much off the bridle, but what do you think?

It’s all systems go for the Grade 1 King George at Kempton on Boxing Day for BMG, a race he is now the 9/4 second favourite for, as Nicholls reiterated the point that Cheltenham may not be his track.

Skelton’s targeted success

Dan and Harry Skelton had it off at Wetherby yesterday as the two brothers banged home three winners from four runners in a 59/1 treble.

The first victory came through the mare MOLLY OLLYS WISHES, a gritty winner of the Listed Mares’ Hurdle who saw off MARTELLO SKY late on to make it back-to-back wins in the race – the Grade 2 Mares’ Hurdle at Ascot is looking like her next target.

The strong messages came through for PROSCHEMA earlier in the week and they were bang on as 35 minutes later, PROSCHEMA went one place better in the Grade 2 West Yorkshire Hurdle than he did last year by absolutely bolting up. (Watch Skeltons ride on him in the race before at Chepstow - a masterclass in stopping!).

The seven-year-old gelding bolted up to beat THOMAS DARBY by 10 lengths giving Harry cause to celebrate out of his skin across the line...assuming because they all had the house on it - although probably not enough to cover recent legal fees.

The day was rounded off in good style for the pair as ROCKY MAN won his first race in the UK on just his fourth start in the 2m3f handicap hurdle.

Noteworthy Ascot performances

GOSHEN boiled over in the pre's to bin off any chances he had in the opening race leaving GOWEL ROAD to win by a distance. I think he actually didn't take to fences badly at all, he just lost his head early doors and by the time the race started he looked as if he'd been in a bubble bath. Probably shouldn't have run him in hindsight, but hey, he's a nutter - what are they gonna do otherwise?

Ascot hosted four decent handicaps on ITV Racing on Saturday which saw Chris Gordon’s HIGHWAY O ONE TWO bolt up by seven and a half lengths in the London Handicap Hurdle, collecting £33,000 for winning connections.

Unfortunately, JP McManus’ BROOMFIELD BURG fell at the fourth hurdle and was fatally injured by the incident – it goes without saying, our thoughts are with connections. I hate the jumps sometimes.

35 minutes later, THYME WHITE, a horse who was touted by Paul Nicholls to run well at the Cheltenham Festival in the Grand Annual before being pulled out, weaved through the pack and won the 2m1f Handicap Chase by nearly five lengths.

At 30 seconds, he talks about Thyme White:

Gordon takes no RISQUES

And finally, in the opening race on Sunday at Huntington, Nicky Henderson’s PENTLAND HILLS won the Racing TV Novices Chase in comfortable style… the most comfortable style in fact as the seven-year-old was the only horse in the lineup following AUCUNRISQUE’s withdrawal from the race.

Trainer of AUCUNRISQUE, Chris Gordon, said in the morning of the race that his six-year-old would take part, but he went back on his decision just moments before the start of the contest.

As expected, Racing Twitter took to their keyboards to share funny and frustrated messages about this disappointing event.

Risk On

12.45 MULLENBEG & 14.20 LORD BADDESLEY

MULLENBEG has not yet found her good bumper form over sticks but this looks an easy race for her. LORD B is a proper horse who was unlucky not to win last year. He's had a good pipe opener and should be spot on for a yard in form who targets the track. Full bet 3.5/1 double.
