Equinties - Racing League on fire
Gm Equinauts
Yesterday was another day with out the anxiety of waiting until race time with risk on in the market.
Feels good if you can ignore the chimp shouting “I TOLD YOU TO BACK SAFFIE AT CHEPSTOW AND TONY AT BRIGHTON BLIND”.
Treble for @AWCarrollracing today at @BrightonRace.
Top and tail today’s card.
5 of the 12 winners at the meeting trained by the boss.

Anyway, on to today. But before we dive in, a little bit of community service…
I’m writing my diss “Falling at the first: Horse racing’s battles with attendance”, with the aim of helping to solve horse racing’s attendance problems by producing marketing recommendations. I’d be grateful if you could complete the 5 minute survey!

Maybe Tom can provide the antidote to falling attendance!
Let’s dive in.
BGP FANTASY LEAGUE COMP
We’ve been hyping up the TOTE’s new Fantasy game since we found it. Why? Simply because there is nothing else out there now which can help people cage the betting chimp while maintaining an emotional interest in the big races of the day.
People bet way too much and the Fantasy allows you to get limited risk on, fill your brain up with the dope it craves and still be in the mix for a big win.
If we hit 100 stables today, top of the BGP private league comes golfing with BGP Capital - we’ll run the comp until someone wins!
HEADLINE ROUND UP
THE TONY CARROLL FEST
The Tony Carroll factory of Brighton winners continued yesterday as he landed a 240/1 hat-trick at the seaside course.
Things that go well together:
🍟 Fish & chips
🥓 Bacon & eggs
🍓 Strawberries & cream

The first of which came in the opener as POETIC FORCE was perfectly dropped on the line by Mollie Phillips, while a big-priced win with HE’S OUR STAR and LOCAL BAY completed a memorable day.
To complete the festival, the top course trainer has four in the opener and two in the feature, the Brighton Bullet.
SAFFIE ON FIRE
The Racing League was on fire yesterday, literally, as a circuit board in the kitchen caught fire and causing the pipes to burst in the weighing room.
This event occurred after the opening handicap of the day and it caused a delay to the meeting following the fire department turning up.
Luckily, all was good for the meeting to continue and as with the first week, Saffie Osborne was in the winners’ enclosure after the second and third race.
Saffie Osborne is on 🔥

“THE BEST I’VE RIDDEN”
Looking ahead to this weekend, the Group 1 Phoenix Stakes is a standout race over in Ireland and with RIVER TIBER not declared, BUCANERO FUERTE is the 9/4 favourite.
In what looks like a competitive race, his chances were given a boost by the words from Robson Aguiar, Amo’s secret weapon, who said: “He’s the best I’ve ridden”.
Refreshing honesty from @bloodst_aguiar, who has described @amoracingltd's G1 Phoenix Stakes favourite Bucanero Fuerte as the best horse he has ever ridden ahead of the @curraghrace.
🗣️“If everything goes right in the race, I think he should win.”

Aguiar is a man who we have done a thread on before:
Amo’s secret weapon, a thread:
You’ve all seen the famous purple silks on fast horses, and love them or hate them - Amo are a unstoppable rising force in the flat game.
How are they doing it?
Well, there is one man behind their success, Robson Aguiar.

and the kind words about Amo’s two-year-old looks to see him have a good chance.
However, it won’t be an easy time for him as UNQUESTIONABLE, the runner-up behind him Railway Stakes, PORTA FORTUNA, and GIVEMETHEBEATBOYS are all set to race in what could be the best juvenile race of the season.
BLOODSTOCK NEWS
Shadwell are going through a purple patch at the moment with Sheika Hissa Al Maktoum at the helm.
AL HUSN was a somewhat surprise winner of the Group 1 Nassau Stakes At Glorious Goodwood recently.
However, it is their colts that have shone brightest. Last year Shadwell obviously raced the wonderful BAAEED, who was narrowly denied an unbeaten record when going down a length at Ascot on Champions Day. He now stands for £80,000 and has covered his first book of mares.
HUKUM and MOSTADHAF have taken over the baton with plenty of their own success and sit joint second on the list of the Worlds Best Racehorse Rankings. The former is BAAEED’s brother, and won the Gr1 King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes recently at Ascot to deny WESTOVER who sits just underneath the Shadwell colts on the list. MOSTADHAF won the Group 1 Prince Of Wales, to propel him into a rating of 128.
Who else is on the list I hear you cry? Well, the Japanese champion and Dubai Sheema Classic victor EQUINOX is in the number 1 spot, the Hong Kong champion GOLDEN SIXTY is joint 5th with a rating of 125, alongside LUCKY SWEYNESSE and PADDINGTON. SHAQUILLE is further down the list on a rating of 120.
YOUNG BLOOD
There's some really competitive two year old maidens today and rather than go through just one race we thought we would pick out six to do a Young Blood snippet on each stand out, sexy pedigree.
14.50 MUSSELBURGH
NARIKO was a 90k yearling pin hooked in to a 600k breeze up. She’s a half sister to Gr3 Molecomb S. winner RUMBLE INTHEJUNGLE and GREAT PROSPECTOR who was running off a mark of 106 at one point. One of the races of the day with stats for other runners too.
18.00 NEWMARKET
BROADWAY ACT represents the Godolphin stable, he’s by first season sire TOO DARN HOT o/o a Listed winner who is a full sister to Irish 2000 Guineas winner RODERIC O’CONNOR.
MACDUFF is by SEA THE STARS and o/o PRESENT TENSE who wasn’t good herself but is a half sister to KINGMAN (KINGMAN is a half brother to OASIS DREAM’s dam) so it’s a very good Juddmonte family.
SUPERPOSITION is another by SEA THE STARS o/o MELESINA who was a Gr3 and Listed winner for Nick Bradley before he sold her to her current owners for 400k.
BREAK THE BANK By INVINCIBLE SPIRIT o/o the dual Listed placed mare TIANA who has produced BEAT THE BANK and BGP grad CHIL CHIL who were so good for connections. Very good pedigree but progeny do improve with age so one to note.
18.15 HAYDOCK
WHISKEY PETE cost 180k and is by NIGHT OF THUNDER and a half brother to Stakes performers CANDLEFORD and ATTY PEARSE. He made a very promising debut pushing the Godolphin winner all the way.
Up against him will be AGE OF TIME who cost 800k as a breeze up after Norman Williamson bought him for 150k, a nice profit for the ex NH Jockey who sold NATIVE TRAIL. By DUBAWI the Godolphin talent scouts would have got a thick ear for not buying him as a yearling. Dam didn’t do much apart from win but she’s a half sister to ENGLISH KING who ran in the Derby, Gr1 winners MAGIC WAND and CHIQUITTA.
STATS OF THE DAY
Shaggas sends COVER POINT all the way to Scotland for the hot 14.50 and lands way more than 1 in 3 when clocking this sort of mileage. In the same race Haynes is 2 from 3 in 2yo novice events at track. Too competitive to bet especially given the nag featured in Young Blood.
And finally, this lad is back out at Newmarket in the 20.20 and is 6 from 9 (both tracks) all time but 6 from 6 in todays class:
EQUIANO SPRINGS loves Newmarket more than you love beer.

RISK ON
We always back EQUIANO SPRINGS at Newmarket (see stats). Time will get the better of him soon and his HQ streak will come to and end but it doesn't look like its this season. He owes us nothing so we’re full betting him until he loses ‘his’ race.
15.40 NIBRAS ANGEL
Looked very good lto and deservedly short today at 11/10. She’ll go on todays ‘good’ ground better than her main rival MOTHER MARY who looks big and slow (needs soft). Should win but its a big field so only half bet 11/10.
18.50 COUPLET
Picked up PROSPEROUS VOYAGE owner Marc Chan after her brilliant debut. Given easy time first time out this season and could make a mockery of her mark today. Full bet 6/4.
19.25 GRAND KARAT
Ran respectably on debut in a hot race at Newbury where we backed the winner…form should be good. This lad was green as grass but held his position and should come on for that. Half bro SINJAARI was rated 108, also trained by the Charltons. Drifting at 13/2 but the Charlton’s recent winners have been unloved the market. Speccy as its a blood guess so keep it small.
