Equinties - Racing League finale

The sun is shining, our home track Newbury has an evening meeting on, the Racing League finale features some top horses today and elsewhere there some seemingly great bets.

Let’s dive in.

HEADLINE ROUNDUP

IT’S ALL FASHION

Independent to the current economic cost of living crisis that the UK tiresomely struggles through, the bloodstock market ferociously maintains it’s own, absurd, unaffected dream land where horses, both flat and jumps are continuing to sell for six figure numbers.

But, as is with most things in the world, the bloodstock game is all about fashion, specifically around stallions and bloodlines that have produced recent nice winners.

For example, TIME TEST (who started seeing progeny on the track in 2021) was standing for 15,000gns when the likes of OKEECHOBEE, FLAMING RABBIT and CYRPTO FORCE were showing good signs in 2022, but he now stands for 8,500gns (and probably be got for cheaper on a private deal) because he has had a few off years.

The same goes for TASLEET, the sire of rocket BRADSELL, who stood at Nunnery Stud for five years at 5 & 6,000gns before he moved to his now home in India!

However, yesterday at the Doncaster Yearling Sale, a TASLEET half-brother to the recent Gimcrack winner COOL HOOF LUKE sold for £350,000.

That just goes to show what a Group 2 win will do for the pedigree! Admittedly, the dam is a half to the Listed winner LOKALOKA, but that Gimcrack win will have added a bit onto the price tag even with a sire who is out of fashion.

The purchaser was Amanda Skiffington, standing with owner Fiona Carmichael (HURRICANE IVOR colours) and trainer Ed Bethell, who shook off Anthony Bromley and Oliver St Lawrence.

RACING LEAGUE WEEK FINALE

Well, the thing that people love the most in racing is coming to an end tonight as the Racing League goes to Southwell.

Last year’s winners Ireland don’t have much of a chance to win this year, but Billy Loughnane can still win the jockeys’ title and Kevin Blake is throwing everything at him.

So, that leaves London & The South and Wales & The West ready to fight it out at the top, though The East (who led early on) could still have a part to play if results go their way.

Both teams have 14 runners, so they have their best chances numerically, but are there any interesting horses on either sides?

RACINGBREAKS RYDER runs in the second race for Matt Chapman’s team and Oisin Murphy gets onboard (a nice vote of confidence), and this run on the all-weather could suit better than good ground which he ran on lto. He’s getting squeezed 11’s into 6’s (the Oisin effect?) but the market probably has this right with GRAND KARAT and KODI LION heading the market, the latter being a great winner for Norm at Ascot on penultimate start and still looks well handicapped.

As for Jamie Osborne’s team, he runs his own horse WAHRAAN in race four with Saffie onboard who could be of interest. He won at Newbury in June and he was with Sir Michael Stoute before a few setbacks. Back in the day, he was rated 96 but is now on 84 and his dam is a half-sister to the Oaks winner WAS.

If The East are to mount a big comeback, which they have a good chance to do, they have ammunition in the aforementioned KODI LION, two market principles in WARMONGER and MANXMAN, and big players in MAGNUM OPUS fifth race, CRACKSKING and MIGHTY NEBULA in race 6 and favourite NAZRON in the lucky last.

We think the East wins with tonight late surge!

RISK ON

We will be at Newbury this afternoon and will post bets live from the track on X @equinties. We’re keen to try again on GLAMOUR SHOW but will wait until the pre’s to see what the vibes are - the pedigree of the Haggas debutant looks very smart.
