Let’s dive in.

HEADLINE ROUNDUP

PAULING’S BIG PURCHASE

Day 2 of the Arqana Summer Sale concluded yesterday and Ben Pauling will get the pleasure of training the €450,000 purchase MAMBONUMBERFIVE after Bertrand Le Metayer walked away with the top lot.

This comes as a big boost to Pauling having lost the Megsons-owned horses - including TELLHERTHENAME - earlier this year after the big fall out over the golf course. '

‘But the Megson’s said it wasn’t to do with the golf course!?’

It was.

Anyway, Le Metayer said: “He’s a fine, big horse and his form ties in with the best three-year-olds in France. Unfortunately we missed the very best one at the sales last year.

“This is a lovely horse and he’ll make a great chaser. He goes to an owner of Ben Pauling and he’s heading to the UK.

"It’s rare they come with such good vetting and he comes recommended by Francois Nicolle, so he was definitely the one to buy.”

We loved Pauling last year and backed loads of his gambles and can’t wait to do it all over again next year.

SCATTERED BIRCH

As expected, the clash that we hoped we would see on Saturday will not happen as connections sadly ruled WHITE BIRCH out of the Coral-Eclipse.

Connections had hinted at the fact that they needed to see improvement in the horse’s health by Wednesday in order to confirm the horse for Sandown’s feature Flat race.

However, that did not occur, as George Murphy, assistant trainer to his father John, said: "White Birch had a blood test this morning and unfortunately it hasn’t come back 100 per cent perfect. As a result, we’ve decided not to travel to Sandown for the Eclipse this weekend. The horse is in good form at home and we’re looking forward to the rest of the season with him."

This development has made CITY OF TROY a 2/5-shot for the Coral-Eclipse with DANCING GEMINI at 7/1.

WELL-BRED DEBUTANTE

Every so often, we like to highlight any well-bred horses that are making their debut on the track.

And well, one at Yarmouth is worth watching today as SHADOW OF LIGHT is making his debut.

By LOPE DE VEGA out of the Group 1 Fillies’ Mile third WINTERS MOON, that makes him a a three quarter part to the 2019 Group 1 Middle Park Stakes winner EARTHLIGHT and apparently this lad is Godolphin’s best 2yo.

Set your alarms, SHADOW OF LIGHT makes his debut in the 18.00 at Yarmouth, he’s been well-supported from even money in to 8/11.

RISK ON

15.00 SHADOW OF LIGHT & 15.30 GLISTENING

Leverage for another bet - this is supposed to be a weapon! ¾ part brother to up and coming sire EARTHLIGHT. He is expected to absolutely bolt up today. Fellowes to follow home too. 8/11. Gosden’s debutant expected to win first time out. 3/1 good double.

16.30 SALAMANCA CITY

Due a win and the fast ground can be the making of her. 9/4 a bet in a weak race.

19.20 KING OF BEARS

Highly regarded, taking on the big gamble of the day on Hughes’. At 7/2 pro’s will be on the ew here but smaller stake, fun punters will play the win and pray.
