Let’s dive in.
HEADLINE ROUNDUP
PATRICKS PICK
Ya’ll love a playing a bit of Willie Mullins bingo, don’t you, you sick masochists. Even if the game bites you in the arse, you still can’t help yourself but trying to guess where Willie goes. Year in, year out, it’s always the same.
One of the talking horses of this years renewal of Mullins bingo is GAELIC WARRIOR. Will he go to the Ryanair or the Gold Cup? Many on racing X seem to think it’s already settled and the Ryanair is already his.
But Patrick Mullins has had his say. When asked what ride he’d most want at the Festival, guess what he said!?
GAELIC WARRIOR in the… GOLD CUP! He thinks he can win it.
Commenting on GAELIC WARRIOR’s last time out efforts, the track at Leopardstown lit him up owed to so many horses spread out amongst each other, going on to say how the Cheltenham track will be much more like that of Kempton where he can settle him on the rail and nurse him through the race.
We feel he goes to the Gold Cup - why wouldn’t he?
GOOD BANTER
Southwell’s meeting next Friday featuring the one and only CONSTITUTION HILL has caused a lot of hum and drum the last few weeks, and rightly so. Trainers accusing Southwell and the BHA of pandering to Hendo under the ‘one rule for them’ argument, fans confused as to why he’s there and the optimists simply excited. We get the voice of trainers calling ‘favouritism’ but we’re also realistic…and commercial. It’s huge for the sport. End of. There is simply no other greater argument when racing is where it is.
In an amusing turn of events, trainers have seemingly stopped complaining and started thinking. Thinking about gate-crashing the party!
Mullins and Hughie Morrison are two trainers this week who have suggested hints at throwing their hats in the ring. And it has created some FANTASTIC banter (Alan Partridge voice):
As ever, Hendo has showed his usual humour and sportsmanship by saying ‘come on, let’s have some fun’. Sue Perb.
We’ll be there and we can’t wait.
INDEEVAR BLEU
Who has all the backing in the world, the champion jockey Sean Bowen riding for him and ever increasing quality in stock… but no Cheltenham Festival winner?
Olly Murphy.
Can he bag his first elusive big Festival W?
Well, of all the horses he talked through in his recent ‘Festival Stable Tour’ he’s notably bullish on the chances of one INDEEVAR BLEU.
To be fair, we talked to Olly on the Newbury gallops day pre-Christmas and INDEEVAR BLEU was the first horse to come out of his mouth when we asked for on.
His pedigree bangs. He’s by the mighty BLUE BRESIL (think CONSITUTION HILL) and out of a mare who is a half to the multiple Grade 1 winning AL FEROF.
Off his current mark, the form lines he has (think TUTTI QUANTI) and knowing how deep his pedigree is, he could be absolutely chucked in.
He is currently priced 25/1 for the Coral Cup (at the time of writing).
