Equinties - owners take it to the High Court

Equinties

Gm Equinauts

Yesterday’s racing was shit, and today’s is just a farce – three shite, low-grade jump meetings held on ground way too hard for the horses to run round safely.

Don’t get me wrong, some trainers target the late summer meets (think Bowen and Fergal O’Brien) but this summer isn’t a normal one. We’re in a drought (most of the country is on a hose pipe ban) and the tracks are fucking concrete. If a horse decks it at 30mph, the consequences aren’t really worth thinking about.

With the field sizes already a massive issue, this ground situation only compounds the problems and people are starting to question the decision-making of the BHA.

YO, BHA, WE DON’T NEED RACING EVERY DAY.

Anyway, I’m always gonna hate on the BHA because they charge me more in admin fees than my trainers charge me in training fees, it’s an absolute racket. So let’s just dive in.

Headline roundup

Lincoln did them proud

For what was meant to be a day of celebrating LINCOLN PRIDE’S win, Sunday ended in turmoil and misery for the O’Meara yard instead, as the horsebox driving back was involved in a horrific accident badly injuring groom/driver and sadly killing LINCOLN PRIDE.

Norfolk police describe the incident as ‘a woman in her 40s suffered life-threatening injuries during a road collision between a horsebox and a Range Rover, resulting in the death of one racehorse, injuries to a 20-year-old man, and his passenger’.

The accident occurred on the A47 Acle Straight near Great Yarmouth – the three-year-old filly by PRIDE OF DUBAI had won a handicap at Yarmouth racecourse just hours before the crash.

The Range Rover driver, in his 20’s, was taken to hospital. Without speculating (I’m absolutely speculating) I imagine it this cunt’s fault.

I drive a horse lorry every week and you don’t go fast enough to cause accidents. A 20yo in black Range Rover? You do the fucking math.

It’s a fucking horrible story and thoughts go out to yard from everyone here at BGP Capital HQ.

Chad down

Now, this shit happened over the weekend but with the York previews getting the way, we saved the story for this week hoping there would be more juicy details leaked… buuuut they haven’t.

Anyway, if you follow US racing, you’ll have heard of the name Chad Brown. With over 2k career wins under his belt including one-third of the 2022 Triple Crown with Early Voting in the Preakness, he’s a big name in racing.

He was arrested last week for a domestic violence incident and is currently on bail after reports state he chucked his ex-gf down his stairs and started choking her. Given his ‘ex’ still had the keys to his house and quite clearly was pissed over seeing him shagging someone else, my guess is she didn’t think she was his ‘ex’!

Chad is facing up to a year in prison.

We’ll update the story as it develops.

Skelton is off to court

From one trainer in trouble with his ex to another now as Dan Skelton finds himself being taken to the High Court by ex-owners of GEORGE GENTLY.

A syndicate led by Tony Holt, someone who was involved with Dan Skelton’s first Cheltenham Festival winner in 2016, is taking the Warwickshire-based trainer to the High Court in London over an alleged dodgy racehorse sale.

A short summary of how the story goes:

A syndicate of six owners purchased a juvenile hurdler called GEORGE GENTLY for £130,000 in October 2016.

The horse picked up a serious tendon injury and was sold for £1,800 19 months later.

The syndicate found out that Dan Skelton was allegedly one of the previous part-owners for who the syndicate had purchased the horse off.

Skelton has denied that this was the case – the syndicate and Dan Skelton, amongst a few others allegedly involved with the sale, will now have to battle out this case in the High Court in London.

The BGP FUCKS Derby?

The online car retailer has ended its association with the Epsom Derby meeting after just 16 months of sponsorship. I'm actually shocked it took them this long to realize that paying $1.1m to have their name plastered in front of ‘Epsom Derby’ only for people to just refer to it as ‘The Derby’ was a bad idea.

Previously, the Derby, Oaks, and Coronation Cup were all sponsored by Investec between 2009 and 2020 before they pulled out after “mutual consent” – this led the Jockey Club to approach Cazoo eight months later for a multi-year sponsorship deal of the Oaks, Derby, and entire two-day meeting, something they agreed to but have since pulled out of after just two renewals of marquee British flat racing event due to commercial setbacks in recent months.

Desert Crown’s recent success in the Cazoo Derby:

Cazoo will continue to sponsor other events throughout the rest of the flat campaign, most notably the St Leger next month at Doncaster but the Jockey Club is now looking for a new sponsor – how about the BGP FUCKS Derby?

Today’s best stats

CARRIGEEN KAMPALA runs in the 14.00. Fergal loves bumpers. He’s like a British version of ‘Mullins in the bumper’…but just a bit shitter. Anyway, his girl won very easily lto and could be a better mare than the Bowens even money fave (who looks a bit small). Liam rides and lands 1 in 3 for Fergal at Worcester.

FLYING VERSE has been squeezed for the 14.45. He won the race last year and his trainer Dennis appears to have been fucking about with entries waiting for the right opportunity.

DEV OF TARA makes his debut for Olly Murphy. 1 in 4 new recruits go in fto out for Olly Murphy.

Eyes on Mulholland today. He targets the 17.30 Fontwell (won his last 3 entries in the race) and runs AGENT SAONOIS today*. Mulholland also turn DYNAMIC KATE out again quickly after she bolted up Thursday, yard are 38% when doing this. She actually came third in the same race last year.

*There looks a big gamble on the Potter horse in this race.

Risk on

No risk on today but if you use the stats to play a ‘chimp acca’ (it’s good training) then you can add Ian Williams’ in the Fontwell bumper for lev.

19.30 ASLUKGOES

This is a terrible bumper on breeding and given how well Williams’ won lto and with the yard in such good form (think York), he should just win again today.
