HEADLINE ROUNDUP
ARC, ON ONE CONDITION
Before his run in the Prix Foy, we spoke in this newsletter about Ed Walker’s desire to run ALMAQAM in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe, but a lot depended on how he went in the Prix Foy.
Now, that race was two weeks ago, but he finished a fine third that day, and an interview with Matt Chapman on Sky Sports Racing yesterday caught our eye, so we’re updating you all now.
"He won't go if it's good ground"
@edwalkerracing tells @MCYeeehaaa that Almaqam is far from a certain runner in the Arc based on the current weather forecast in Paris...

The bottom line is that ALMAQAM won’t run in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe if the ground is good, and unfortunately for connections, Walker is pretty sure that the weather in France is a bit too sunny and dry for his liking. In a separate piece on Racing TV earlier this week, he said: “It was quicker than ideal at Longchamp as it dried up – I’m pretty sure we’ll head there (to the Arc).
“We’ll see, if the ground is soft, we’ll probably head to the Arc as he’s come out of it really well and he’s in great nick.
“He just hit a flat spot on that ground, and I guarantee you that when it is softer, you will see a 10lb better horse.”
So, Walker is confident he’d have a right chance in the Arc if it’s soft, but in yesterday’s interview on Sky Sports, he’s not sure if it will be soft. Superb stuff.
We’ve had a little look over the forecasts, and Walker is pretty much right. There are a few showers here and there, but the bulk of the weather in Paris over the next seven days is dry. Maybe the week after will be wetter, but there’s no way to be absolutely sure.
