Godolphin weren't on top form yesterday so our chimp feeding 'just back the boys in blue' perm yielded a big fat zero.

But the newsletters one and only single of the day?

Acca's for show, singles for a pro.

If you didn't come away with anything from the Craven meeting then you know you're not playing smart and/or cant control the chimp. Again, just use the Fantasy game to help.

Lot's of you joined in yesterday which is so good to see and there was a standout performance. Well done to CHANGE BUZZZ who smashed not only the BGP league yesterday but also the main game and took away Β£774. Woof! Please DM the intern @bgpintern to organize your prize.

Remember - lot's of racing today, you don't need to back them all. Maintain an interest in every without the financial commitment - set up your stable and add it to our league using code: QHZ36G.

Now, let's dive tf in.

Headline roundup

Racing Twitter MELT DOWN

Good Lord it kicked off on Racing Twitter last night. Check this out:

Pat Cosgrave was handed a 28-day ban last night after he got his 1/6 favourite CONCORDE beat in the 20.00 at Chelmsford.

The George Boughey-trained three-year-old was sauntering over the field and traded at 1.01 at times under a motionless Pat Cosgrave, however, he failed to see MY ROXANNE on his left-hand side under Ben Robinson who won the race by a nose.

Pat began to pull the horse up before the line and ultimately, that is what cost him. It’s a howler, a proper howler, and one he will want to forget quickly but wow did it allow for some real clever sh*t-posting.

WHO PUT ROXANNE OVER THIS.

Amo by name, ammo by nature

Well, it seems that Amo Racing have a few good horses this year and that was certainly the case in the Craven as INDESTRUCTIBLE flew home in the feature event to win well under Kevin Stott.

The KODIAC colt was second to CHALDEAN in the Group 3 Acomb Stakes and second to him again in the Group 2 Champagne Stakes when trained by Michael O’Callaghan. Now with Karl Burke, the Β£150,000 breeze-up purchase flew up the nearside rail to snatch victory from THE FOXES who was traded as low as 1.2 in-running.

INDESTRUCTIBLE is now 20/1 for the 2000 Guineas and CHALDEAN shortened to 5/1 following the result – eyes on the third, DANCING MAGIC, for Roger Teal who had to try and make all and began to stay on in the final furlong. Further for this lad?

On a slightly more negative note, Godolphin were expecting a big run from MYSTERIOUS NIGHT in the feature contest as well as from CREATIVE FORCE and CHANGING COLOURS earlier in the day. All three lost and our perm went down, but that's okay.

Follow the Intern @bgpintern on twitter for a look into why the Amo horses are so fast right now. Thread pending.

Cheltenham sales

Fergal O’Brien keeps going from strength to strength in the National Hunt game and he had his eyes on the future at Cheltenham yesterday as he purchased OAK GROVE, a PtP winner on his second try under Finny Maguire, for Β£250,000.

The dark bay has a brilliant page as the dam, SIDE SADDLE, is full sister to VOLER LA VEDETTE, a Hatton’s Grace Hurdle, Boyne Hurdle, Leopardstown Christmas Hurdle, Fairyhouse Ladbrokes Hurdle, and Lismullen Hurdle winner whilst also finishing second in the second to Big Buck’s in the 2012 World Hurdle and second to Quevega in the 2012 Ladbrokes World Series Hurdle.

The dam is also a half-sister to the bet365 Gold Cup winner HENNESSY and to unraced mare LABARYNTH, the dam of the Supreme, Arkle, and now Aintree Bowl winner SHISHKIN. This post will tickle you...

ANAMOE retired

And finally, this news ends up down under today as ANAMOE, the nine-time Group 1 winner for Godolphin, has been retired by connections.

The STREET BOSS four-year-old reached a peak rating of 121 in his three-year racing career down under for James Cummings, accumulating over Β£6 million in prize money.

The Godolphin Australia homebred began his career over five furlongs and won his first Group event over six in the Todman Stakes at Randwick at a price of 8/1.

Since then, ANAMOE has been prolific over distances ranging from 7f to 1m2f and he went on a four-race Group 1 winning streak in 2022 before he was beaten in the 2022 Champion Stakes.

Darley announced a few days ago that the Champion middle distance galloper will stand for $121,000 in his first season as a sire - good luck with retirement, ANAMOE!

Big race preview

Group 3 Craven Stakes

The highlight race of this week’s Newmarket meeting is the Craven Stakes won last year by NATIVE TRAIL who would go on to finish second in the Guineas.

Godolphin are represented this year by MYSTERIOUS NIGHT, a horse who was third to PERSIAN FORCE last season before two wins abroad at the end of the campaign in France and Canada.

He lost fto last year and is coming into this fresh – his RPR of 111 from his Gr1 win in Canada lto looks good and should be there as long as the ground isn’t too soft.

The once-raced MOSTABSHIR is the sole Shadwell horse in the line-up following his win on the all-weather lto at Kempton in November.

This was a very good debut on the AW but as we saw with COPPICE in the Nell Gwyn, sometimes that form doesn’t translate onto the turf, so he will be an interesting addition to the race.

THE FOXES is one of the seasoned three-year-olds in the race having raced four times as a juvenile, finishing behind MYSTERIOUS NIGHT on debut last year.

He finished the season with two wins – the two horses he beat lto, DUBAI MILE and FLYING HONOURS, have both gone on to win a race since with the former having won a Group 1 over in France. That is good form.

NEW FEATURE - YOUNG BLOOD

Notes on pedigree, attractive crosses and sales trends

Today we're looking at two races; a newcomers full of boys and a maiden full of Oaks hopefuls.

13.30 Newbury

We love a Newbury maiden. BERKSHIRE SHADOW won this 2 years ago before winning at Royal Ascot.

KALIK is all 2yo speed. His sire is Prince Of Lir who won the Norfolk at Royal Ascot. His mum has produced OSCULA who was Gr1 placed in France, Gr2 placed at Newmarket and Gr3 placed at Royal Ascot as a 2yo. Another likely winner for Amo.

SUCCESSION is one of the cheaper purchasers...at 65k! He’s by SHOWCASING who always has a nice bunch of youngsters and he is out of an Amo mare by KODIAC, the king of 2yo’s. His dam was Gr3 placed as a 2yo. He should be bang there but Cox yet to fire.

MATTERS MOST is by ADVERTISE who was second to CALYX as a 2yo at Royal Ascot. His dam is SQUASH (mother of HAYMAKER later on the card) who was 2nd in the Nell Gwyn. 135k foal to 500k yearling. A nice make up dam side but ADVERTISE is yet to get on the scoreboard with his first 2yo's.

DAPPER VALLEY was 55k yearling, from a fast family. He's by DANDY MAN who produces a lot of good 2yo’s, but admittedly has a better strike rate with his daughters.

14.40 Newbury

Very tricky race made up of a bunch of well bred fillies who ran respectable last year or are making their debuts. Any one of them could improve 10-20lbs from 2-3 years old. I doubt they’ll be revved up, a nice seasonal introduction would be on the cards here with a long season and bigger targets ahead.

SHINING JEWEL heads the market, ran green but looked good at the finish on debut behind a well thought of winner. Half sister to WARRAN POINT, who was a good Listed performer at 3/4yo meaning dam sire is DUBAI DESTINATION - ground no issue today. She's 20/1 for the Oaks.

SHIVA SHAKTI is by SIYOUNI. Dam side is very slow, second dam is a produced a lot of stamina. She ran well enough at 2 at Yarmouth but probably best watched today. Holds an Oaks entry.

EASTERN EMPRESS is big filly by DUBAWI. Apparent second string on jockey bookings but on blood (and market squeeze) there might not be much in it. Like SHIVA SHAKTI, dam side is laden with stamina. Watch first time. No Oaks entry.

VALUE ADDED made a promising debut on the course on soft ground (has a high knee action, so may like cut), form of the race is yet to be tested however the fourth since hasn’t done it any favours. Could be okay or could be nice, holds an Oaks entry but another watch first time out.

MISTRAL STAR is by Frankel and is a half sister to Gr2 winner AL SUHAIL and Dante winner TELECASTER meaning she might be versatile ground wise. She made a very promising debut where she was headed late on by a more experienced rival. As with all she might need the run but could be nice. Holds an Oaks entry.

MAMAN JOON is by Sea The Stars and cost 400,000. Her dam was a Listed winner, Gr2 placed. She’s produced ATTY PEARSSE who won at Royal Ascot and CANDLEFORD who also won at Royal Ascot. She was a nice yearling and there are whispers she’s going well. Tough race but she might be another winner for Amo.

Risk on

We did have one lined up at 14's but we think she needs the run and better ground so we'll wait... That said there are two nice bets for today with a potential for another to be posted on twitter @equinties.

16.25 CARAGIO

Gambled this lad on debut when he just ran out of track. He followed up easily at Leicester when the ground was lively but he'll go on anything. His Newbury form lto is good with the only horses in front of him now rated >100. That's the best form in the race and his price is way too big but that said, its a race where anything can be open to improvement. He's a half bet at 9's.

18.25 WHITE LAVENDER

Small bet here at 9/4 in a big field. This mare is the best in the race and would have been lined up for it having won it last year. Burke is flying now and the cut in the ground is a plus so things look bullish.

Staking and banking

There was a lot of positive feedback recently from people benefitting from our staking advice. Well, and general bank roll tips too. So we'll keep it here as a reminder.

If you want to take punting seriously and use racing as a value add to your life, keep a betting bank, protect it at all times (none of this 'ah we're on a bull run, I'll stick a few stupid bets on') and stick to risking the % stakes, upping notional as the bank grows. Betting banks will change your punting forever.

Help keep a healthy bank by betting less and using the TOTE Fantasy game to feed the chimp.

The TOTE FANTASY is good chimp management. Create your stable and use code QHZ36G to join the BGP league here:
