It was good to see we weren’t going totally mad by choosing to play maiden CORSICAN CAPER yesterday.
Chucked into a class 2 by trainer Frost,
For admittedly looked a bizarre move at first given CORSICAN CAPER has never won a race, throwing him into a class 2 against 80 horses almost turned out an inspired play for the feather weight meant he was running free and he powered home to finish 4th (nearly every book paid 4 places).
Given way too much to do, his closing finish suggested he could have got a lot closer to the run away winner proving a great bet at 30/1.
We knew what Frost was trying…and fair play to him. That horse will prove well handicapped in time.
Now, let’s dive in.

HEADLINE ROUNDUP
MONEY SPINNERS
Tally Ho Stud are basically the best in the business at trading thoroughbreds. The O’Callaghan family picked up a GHAIYYATH filly from the Foal Sales last December for 130,000gns (her dam was Listed placed as a 2yo in France and she descends from the family of Bay Bridge) and sold her for €360,000 yesterday. She will be going into training with a Richard Hannon.
NO NAY NEVER needs little introduction, he stands for €175,000 at Coolmore and is the best juvenile sire in the world. The Hong Kong Jockey Club picked up a son of his yesterday for €240,000, a great deal for Bunda Bloodstock who bought the ‘brown colt’ for €70,000 at Goffs November Foal Sale last year.
HAVANA GREY is never far away from the headlines. Paula Flannery brought a son of his at the December Foal Sales for 23,000gns and flipped him into a €140,000 yearling. Andrew Balding bought him.
SHOWCASING stands for £45,000, alongside his talented, and now famous stable friend HAVANA GREY. SHOWCASING did initially stand for £5,000 back in 2011 and a son of his was purchased for €30,000 at Tattersalls Foal Sales in December. He returned yesterday and made €170,000 to Peter and Ross Doyle, a healthy profit margin. This young colts dam is a sister to the dam of RIP VAN WINKLE, one of GALILEO’s highest rated horses behind the Goat FRANKEL.
SHAMARDAL’s son BLUE POINT has made a successful start to stud this year and the same is expected of EARTHLIGHT. BBA Ireland found an EARTHLIGHT colt at the Tattersalls Foal Sales with a lovely page, and purchased him for 60,000gns. His dam is a sister to multiple Group 1 placed filly I CAN FLY. His new owners, who were American forked out €300,000 for him yesterday.
Limekiln Stud's Earthlight colt (Lot 209) was all the rage on the opening day of Orby, fetching €300,000 from US buyers @RamiroRestrepo of @MarqueeAgency, @GBromagen & Jason Taylor Equine.
Gerry Ross told @nickluck about how the result surpassed his expectations.

TODAYS LOTS TO WATCH
Phillip Stauffenberg plays in the d*ck out, shake it all about league. He doesn’t pinhook many yearlings but when he does he goes in hard, and it’s paid off for him over the years.
The big German has Lot 313 today, he bought the son of KINGMAN o/o Dane Street for 550k last year as a foal. It’s going to be squeaky bum time for Stauffenberg when he walks in to the ring but he’s got a lovely colt who is by a top sire and a half brother to a Champion 2yo Filly in SKITTER SKATTER and a half brother to the Dam of recent Gr1 winner ASPEN GROVE.
Check out big Phil and his HECT-AAAAAAAR’s here:
Renowned breeders & pinhookers Philipp & Marion Stauffenberg are bringing their first draft to Orby under the @StauffenbergBS banner.
The special draft includes last year's November sale topping Kingman colt & a homebred Masar half-sister to Fantastic Moon, winner of the G1… twitter.com/i/web/status/1…

FRANKEL fever is at dizzying heights after his progeny’s exploits on the track (again) this year. The only one who went through the ring yesterday made 650k. Three go through today and the one who stands out is the Sangster bred filly Lot 525, she’s a half sister to Gr2 winner TILSIT. Dam is an own sister to Gr3 winner REMOTE and a half sister to Champion Racehorse and top Sire KINGMAN. OASIS DREAM is in the third dam.
Lot 416 is bred on the SIYOUNI GALILEO cross which has produced SOTTSASS and ST MARKS BASILICA. China Horse Club bred this chap, his dam has produced a winner with one of her two runners to date and she’s a full sister to Gr3 winner EYE OF THE STORM as well as a half sister to a host of Group performers.
Other Lots to watch include Lot 356 is a full brother to Gr1 winning mare SAFFRON BEACH and Lot 488 is a SEA THE STARS half brother to Gr1 Irish 2000 Guineas scorer PHOENIX OF SPAIN.
12 WOOTTON BASSETTS sell today, 2 KINGMANS, 10 SEA THE STARS (who topped the Sale yesterday), 3 FRANKELS, 4 LOPE DE VEGAS, 15 NO NAY NEVERS. Should be a good day to fill the piggy bank or indeed empty it!
JARVIS DOWNS TOOLS
Over the weekend, Group 1-winning trainer William Jarvis announced that he would be retiring at the end of the season.
Happy retirement, @williamjarvis! 👏

It won’t be long until his Phantom House Stables base in Newmarket has a new host as Dylan Cunha is set to move there ahead of the next Flat season.
The South African Group 1-winning trainer has had a good start to life in the UK with the highlight being SILVER SWORD’s win in the £100,000 handicap at York.
TO THE MOON
This year’s Arc de Triomphe could have one more star join the ranks as connections of FANTASTIC MOON are considering a supplementation for their Prix Neil winner.
The German Derby winner has been a brilliant horse for trainer Frau Steinburg all season and will be supplemented as long as the weather report stays clear which is set to occur.
🇩🇪 Derby winner FANTASTIC MOON worked really well this morning and will be supplemented for the Arc tomorrow unless the weather report will suddenly change, which is not likely to happen. Like with TORQUATOR TASSO & IN SWOOP first two home from the GER Derby will run in the Arc.

Lars-Wilhelm Baumgartner, founder of the Liberty Racing Syndicate, owners of FANTASTIC MOON, said that the trainer will speak with connections about which race of three should be the three-year-old’s target.
As for horses who will not be attending Longchamp on Sunday, SPREWELL was ruled out of the race and will instead head to the Prix Dollar on Saturday.
TODAYS BEST STATS
Shaggas looks to have them lined up today and the standout stat is his record in the 16.50 where he’s 3 from 4. Runs drifting ROYAL MILA today (7/2 out to 6’s).
5lb claimer Morgan Cole is 3 from 4 all time at Kempton for John Butler, they team up on well-handicapped DOUBLETHETROUBLE in the 20.30.
RISK ON
ANOTHER tough day. Shaggas looks to have them lined up but it’s Balding’s lot who are quietly confident of a good day so we’ll follow them in.
13.55 TORRENT
Taking on Johnston’s 11/10 shot who’s form is questionable (and was cheap for a full bro to AL AASY in a strong market). Like most Balding horses, he would have desperately needed the run on debut, so he’s expected to come on today. Form is solid - 3rd and 4th both won next time and even 9th improved to come 4th. Andrew’s form in this race the last four years reads 1431 so he clearly targets the race. 9/4.
15.40 MY PROSPERO
Yet to win this year but he’s a proper horse and unless they’re realising he has a problem, should be winning this. Evens on the exchange.
18.30 HAVANAZAM
Long time followers of ours will recognise these colours - PLANSINA! Last chance for this lad at a whopper price. His reappearing run at Ffos Las was a write off owing to ground and he got too lit up lto in head gear at Kempton (which they take off today). He is definitely better than what we’ve seen and has been working well - just needs to settle. Oisin in the plate today. EW bet - Skybet offering 4 places at 14’s, 3’s other books unless you buy extra (10/1 for 5 places on Bet365).
