Gm Equinauts

For racing fans who don’t read this newsletter (do they even like racing?), they’d be forgiven for assuming yesterday was a quiet days racing.

Enter Haydock Park.

Yesterday the sleepy northern village of Haydock played Rome and it’s ‘any day’ racecourse transform into a beautiful colosseum to play host to the fight of the year.

SHAGPYLE vs SHAGGAS - the battle of the shaggers.

Until we got involved, the market was loving the new filly on the block, SHAGPYLE. Punters seemingly enamoured by her promising debut, she took a large portion of the market.

But the relentless sun had been baking Haydock for days and that really only played to one horse in the race.

One (strong bet), one big winner for the newsletter. BOOM.

Now, let’s dive in.

MERCH

LAUNCHES THIS WEEK!

BGP FANTASY LEAGUE COMP

We’ve been hyping up the TOTE’s new Fantasy game since we found it. Why? Simply because there is nothing else out there now which can help people cage the betting chimp while maintaining an emotional interest in the big races of the day.

People bet way too much and the Fantasy allows you to get limited risk on, fill your brain up with the dope it craves and still be in the mix for a big win.

It’s bad racing today - perfect time to play it. If we hit 250 stables, top of the BGP private league get’s a new ‘GM’ cap.

HEADLINE ROUND UP

BHA fires back

They’ve been desperate for it for a while, but finally some good light was shed on the BHA as they hit back at Animal Rising.

Now if you missed this, Animal Rising held an “invite only” press conference (lol) where they announced that they wanted a televised debate with members of the BHA to discuss horse racing.

Have they not seen this?

Blakes recent appearances might not have been “official debates” like something you would see in an election campaign, but come on, they didn’t exactly read favourably in the way of Animal Rights and they need to be better at doing their homework if they’re to come across at all credible.

In further news, following Animal Right’s attempts to disrupt horse racing, they have announced to turn their next attack onto the Greyhound Derby at Towcester next month in the same announcement about the “Ascot Derby”…verbatim lmao.

Hopefully, the AR press can slowly fade away which is ultimately what needs to happen.

Bullish on Bradsell

BRADSELL, last year’s Coventry Stakes winner, has been supplemented into the King’s Stand for £35,000 by connections yesterday.

The three-year-old, who is also entered for the July Cup, was last seen finishing nine lengths behind LITTLE BIG BEAR in the Sandy Lane Stakes at Haydock and will now take on his elders in the Kings’s Stand.

He will receive six pounds from the rest of the field and will be partnered by Hollie Doyle.

A big question mark hangs over the horses head as he is yet to show the brilliance he did last year. He got injured late in 2022 and subsequently had some time off rehabbing. When some horses recover from an injury, it can leave as much a mental scare as physical. Will he be holding something back remembering the injury?

Big money Mullins

The Goffs Arkle sale continued yesterday and the top lot fell the way of Willie Mullins as KING RASKO GREY will end up in Closutton for €250,000.

By GALIWAY, the same sire as SEALIWAY, GALA MARCEAU, and VAUBAN, Mullins saw off the attention of Nicholls to snap him up for quarter of a million.

The master of Ditcheat, Paul Nicholls, did pick up something for six figures, however, as he parted away with €175,000 for JEU ST ELOI who looks a typical Nicholls type - a big horse basically.

Here are some other interesting purchases:

NEW FEATURE - YOUNG BLOOD

Notes on pedigree, attractive crosses and sales trends

14.20 Newbury

DOUBLE JUMP has a speedy pedigree being by DARK ANGEL o/o a Marygate Stakes L. winner. She’s a half sister to a listed winner (also by DARK ANGEL) who in turn has produced a Mill Reef S. winner. He has had a ran when 6th at Goodwood, no reason why he can’t take advantage of the experience

MAFNOOD is all 2yo speed. He’s a homebred, by KINGMAN who had a recent Gr1 winning 2yo in Australia. His brother won first time out, and his sister won a Gr3 as a 2yo for Richard Hannon. The same cross breeding as PALACE PIER; KINGMAN o/o a NAYEF mare.

IBERIAN is rained by Charlie Hills (6%sr), he is by LOPE DE VEGA (so will lvoe the ground) and cost 200k at the sales. His mother was a Listed winner and she is a full sister to HIGH HEELED who was 3rd in the Oaks. A nice family backs that also includes classic winner JUST THE JUDGE.

TREASURE TIME is an 80,000gns yearling by TIME TEST who is by DUBAWI. His mother won as a 3yo, Listed placed and she is a sister to PROMPTER who was second in the Gr3 Autumn Stakes as a 2yo. TIME TEST’s aren’t proving that great and pedigree suggests further in slop is needed.

ENPASSANT is a 44k yearling flipped into a 160k breezer. By STARSPANGLEDBANNER (who looks to have the Albany winner), his dam is a sister to ELUSIVE WAVE who won the French 1000 Guineas. O/o a RAVENS PASS mare. Nice page and ground will suit.

Verdict: Quite a few unraced in here. MAFNOOD 3/1 the favourite has a very nice family background. We like him a lot and Hannon loves a Newbury winner. IBERIAN and ENPASSANT both have nice profiles and are ones to watch.

18.40 Haydock

PUROSANGUE is by ACLAIM o/o a tough AVONBRIDGE mare who won 10 times from 3-8years old. He cost £125,000 at the breeze up sales from Mark Grant who produced BRADSELL last year. He looks a precocious type even though the family improve with age however Mark Grant has been purring over this lad.

ALL IS FAIR is a homebred for Austin Curran by first season sire SOLDIERS CALL, he’s from the family of TIME CHARTER. O/o a NEW APPROACH mare (who is making in to a good broodmare sire) who has produced GOLDEN WARRIOR who won twice at 2 and hit a OR of 91. Market to guide.

IMPRESSIVE ACT is by DUBAWI o/o DABYAH who was Gr1 placed at 2. The mare was a very good racehorse but is struggling to produce a winner as she has 2 foals of racing age and both haven’t reached the racecourse yet. However that’s not to say she won’t ever produce a winner of course and this lad is a nice individual who could be her first, he cost 650,000 as a yearling. Ran well for a long way on debut and then came 3rd (2nd has since come 2nd again) on his second start when the stable looked like being under a cloud. They’re back firing now.

IRISH NECTAR was a very close 4th on debut meeting trouble in running. The 3rd has since won beating the opposing IMPRESSIVE ACT by nearly 5 lengths. Improvement is expected from this 50k Invincible Spirit colt o/o a listed place (at 4yo) mare.

BLUEYS BOY holds an entry in the Tatts July Sale which doesn’t fill the punter with a lot of confidence! Cost 50k as a yearling by JAMES GARFIELD who wouldn’t be the most exciting stallion but did have a 2yo winner the other day for Cox. Best watched on debut.

GOOP POINT is a homebred by BLUE POINT o/o a KODIAC mare (the cross has done well) who has produced DECRYPT who was 3rd in the Irish 2000 Guineas. Mare won once in her racing career which was as a 2yo. Market to guide.

INSTANT RECALL is by SHOWCASING o/o a listed winning 2yo mare who has produced a moderate winner from 3 foals of racing age. He was last on debut so needs to put that effort far behind him.

Verdict: PUROSANGUE 9/1, named after a type of Ferrari, catches the eye after a good breeze at the sales. IRISH NECTAR is also in the reckoning. Both have the odds on Godolphin horse to beat.

TODAYS RACING

Today’s best stats

14.40 GODWINSON reps our man Shaggas who has won this race a couple of times in recent years, albeit with horses considerably shorter in the market than todays 6/1. He’s 50% with runners in this race though so targets it and he’s been firing in first time winners which is rare.

17.40 ARRANMORE as fancied lto and is fave again today to make amends for Sayer who has booked Mulrennan. Trainer and jock combo are £139 profit to £1 - bullish.

These stats do not constitute financial advice. Use to either play the Fantasy league or create a ‘chimp acca’ to allow you to practice good habits and play singles with conviction.

RISK ON

Tough racing today with big fields and not keen to give anything back but will play the two Young Blood horses as half bets.

CATWALK MODEL should be leverage today for a bet. She ran well on fast ground lto having been only seen before that on soft. She gets her ground today as is clear on figures at 4/5.
