HEADLINE ROUNDUP
⛔BA(NNE)D TIMING
Billy Loughnane has been handed a 21-day suspension following an incident at Southwell, in what is literally THE worst possible timing given the flat season starts tomorrow given he’s Boughey’s number 1 lol.
What a bad birthday for George who is 34 for today.
Loughnane was found guilty of improper riding after going against veterinary instructions. Ouch.
The issue came about when, BEELZEBUB was kicked leaving the stalls and subsequently examined by a vet who deemed the horse lame and unfit to race. When the horse was officially withdrawn, in a stroke of madness, Billy rode it back from the start despite (apparently) being instructed not to do so. This prompted an inquiry from the stewards. They concluded he had breached protocol, resulting in the three-week ban.
Trainer of BEELZEBUB, David Loughnane, is rather bemused by the whole affair stating the horse had a graze on it’s leg since he joined his yard and also added that the horse was found sound (twice!) and that Billy was in fact NOT asked to dismount the horse.
Stinks of an appeal!
The timing of the suspension is particularly significant. Set to run from April 9 to April 30, it rules him out of the big meetings including the Craven at HQ and the Greenham meeting at our beloved Newbury!
For a rider in his position, the interruption could prove costly to big Bill. He’s landed himself top role at Boughey’s who will need him for the plethora of high-quality horses about to be unleashed. Boughey will be pulling his hair out this morning.
Loughnane is due to return at the start of May, just in time for the Guineas meeting, where he’ll be frothing to get back in the game. While the ban is a setback, his ever increasing ability suggests he is well placed to bounce back quickly and get back to banging in the winners for Boughey.
⚡STORM OVER DUBAI
We said the storm was coming and boy did it deliver, check this out!
Subsequently, a lot of rain has hit Dubai:
The RP hasn’t yet updated the going at Meydan and we can’t find source online, but surely it’s going to be hard work out there now?
This guy shares our feelings lol:
A change in the going will change the chances of some horses and if it is slow, hard work, we will be best positioned to find the winners. Make sure you can take advantage of it by accessing the World Pool here: Tote | Offers
💡MCGIVERN IT A GO TOO
Owner-breeder Jayne McGivern is considering a different path for the siblings of CONSTITUTION HILL, with plans increasingly leaning toward giving them a chance on the flat before committing solely to a jumping career. Her thinking reflects a broader shift in how she views jumps pedigrees, particularly when they are closely related to the fastest (jumps) horse in the country!
McGivern has several fillies out of QUEEN OF THE STAGE, including a full sister to Conrad, and she is keen to explore their potential on the flat while they are still young.
Rather than automatically directing them toward bumpers or hurdles as a 5yo, the idea of sending them to the flat looks all too tempting to Jane. The approach is borne from the belief that many horses bred for jumping may have untapped ability on the Flat, especially over middle distances as CONSTITUTION HILL has proved.
She is not going to totally abandon National Hunt racing altogether, but simply delay it. It makes sense commercially because if they’re not a star on the flat, they can always then go over jumps with the added bonus of racing experience!
