Equinties - March entries

Equinties

Gm, Equinauts

On another day without jumps, but at least National Hunt fans had Cheltenham entries to get excited over yesterday as trainers made their first statements for the big ones.

Now let’s dive in!

HEADLINE ROUND UP

MARCH ENTRIES

The Gold Cup saw the second largest number of entries in a decade. Ireland dominate the entries with Britain almost doubling their tally from last year, but that wasn’t hard… 2025 and 2026 British Gold Cup entries maintain their record for the lowest ever.

The Irish dominance in numbers in the race isn’t reflected in the betting market though, its a bloody open affair at 6/1 the field as new kids on the block JANGO BAIE and THE JUKEBOX KID sit just behind previous champs INOTHEWAYURTHINKIN and GDC. It’s looking a monster race right now!

The Champion Chase received 24 entries and but the market is more telling than the Gold Cup’s with IL ETAIT TEMPS and MARINE NATIONALE vying for strong favouritism 2 months out from the race. A surprising entry was SIR GINO. Champion Hurdle backers shouldn’t start sweating however, he’s a monster price at 16/1 and it appears precautionary measure for now given Hendo is still undecided as to what to do with CONSTITUTION HILL.

THREE IN A ROW

No, sadly we’re not talking about a horse racking up a sequence, it’s the number of nights Kempton’s experience minus temperatures and as it stands, the track is very much unraceable.

In all honestly, clerk of the course Barney Clifford doesn’t sound very optimistic about the fixtures chances when speaking to the Racing Post and he’ll be doing the rain dance until Saturday.

As for the upcoming meetings, Ffos Las looks bloody promising in going ahead tomorrow, whilst it’s northern counterpart Catterick has been cancelled. And then Friday, Exeter, Southwell and Huntingdon subject to inspections, Exeter looking the most likely at this point.

At this point, we’re so excited for Ffos Las it feels like Cheltenham-eve!

CRAM-BOWS OUT

Fergal O’Brien announced the retirement of his star horse CRAMBO yesterday.

At only 9yo, it was a surprise to see Fergal pull stumps with his dual Long Walk Hurdle winner but Fergal described his decision as not an easy one to make but admitted CRAMBO has fallen out of love with his job. Fair play, Fergal - well done.

CRMABO will stay at his current home at Ravenswell Farm and be cared for by Eve Nicholls.

Enjoy retirement, CRAMBO!
