Equinties

Gm Equinauts

The final day of Goodwood was cut short on Saturday, a big shame but there was nothing to be done with the weather and it might have actually been a stroke of luck for some horses we were eyeing up but needing better ground…

Let’s dive in.

BGP FANTASY LEAGUE COMP

We’ve been hyping up the TOTE’s new Fantasy game since we found it. Why? Simply because there is nothing else out there now which can help people cage the betting chimp while maintaining an emotional interest in the big races of the day.

People bet way too much and the Fantasy allows you to get limited risk on, fill your brain up with the dope it craves and still be in the mix for a big win.

If we hit 100 stables today, top of the BGP private league comes golfing with BGP Capital.

HEADLINE ROUND UP

MAGICQUAND

At least twice a month, someone will ask on Racing X ‘who is the best jockey riding at the moment?’.

The answer is and should be Ryan Moore but right now, Tom Marquand is a fair reply.

From judging an expert time to strike with QUICKTHORN on day one…

…to the same tactics being deployed just four days later on 33/1 newsletter pick SUMO SAM in the Lillie Langtry.

To top off a great week, he deservedly collected the Sky Bet Sunday Series top jockey title and an extra £10,000 to boot.

Add to the fact that he openly speaks honestly to the press, most recently his thoughts on cancelled race fixtures and the saunas debate that is circling around the weighing room right now, he really does look and act like a class act.

ON THE UP

France played host to the Prix Maurice de Gheest yesterday and although the main race was ‘the big Group 1’, it was MILL STREAM in the Listed Prix Moonlight Cloud at Deauville who stole the show.

The GLENEAGLE’s colt has been on the fringe of success throughout his career, finishing close to CHALDEAN last year before big handicap performances this season but yesterday was his day in the sun.

With some decent performers in behind as a good yard stick, Jane has a nice one to campaign in the future.

ROYAL SCOTSMAN SIDELINED

And finally, Classic placed ROYAL SCOTSMAN will be out for the remainder of the season due to bone bruising.

The English Guineas third and Dewhurst second has since been disappointing in both the Irish 2000 Guineas and St James’s Palace Stakes with a possible explanation revealed.

Cole is still bullish on his ability though stating his intention to ‘win as many Group 1’s over a mile’ with him as possible!

YOUNG BLOOD

14.25 AYR

ROMAN SECRET is a homebred of Kildaragh Stud (bred NATIVE TRAIL), looks like they have leased her to Richard Faheys syndicate. Fahey trained the half sister to win 2 races. Dam was listed placed over a mile 2f on heavy. Made a promising debut over 6f, step up to 7f seems logical.

MISEMERALD is in a hat trick bid, clearly a game filly winning narrowly lto. The form isn’t fantastic so carrying a penalty in this may be too tough.

FRANCOPHONE is a Kirsten Rausing homebred by first season sire STUDY OF MAN, dam won twice over 1m3f and 1m4f, her grand dam is Gr1 winner LADY JANE DIGBY who won over 1m2f. The Johnston’s know the family well and on paper she could be bang there.

AFTER TIME by first season sire LE BRIVIDO and represents the Kevin Ryan stable. Bought for €42k, first foal o/o a dam who was placed over 7f. Best watched on debut but note Kevin Ryan has won this the last twice (albeit with favourites).

EVANWOOD by ZOFFANY, cost 40k at the sales. Nice page, AUSTRALIA is in the third dam. Betting to guide.

CAPELLINA by STARSPANGLEDBANNER out of a two Listed placed mare who is a half sister to THE TIN MAN and DEACON BLUES. Cost 40k as a yearling, best watched on debut.

FLOW SO GENTLY is a o/o a GALILEO mare and by SAXON WARRIOR. Dam was only placed but cones from a good family, noteably being a half sister to listed scorer FENCING. Best watch on debut

Verdict: A nice little competitive novice to kick us off at Ayr. The selection is ROMAN SECRET who made an encouraging debut 16 days ago, with the step up in trip sure to suit and up against 5 o/o 7 unraced fillies. FRANCOPHONE is the main danger.

STATS OF THE DAY

Weird stat here but 15.55 EY UP ITS MAGGIE has never lost when shorter than 2/1, winning 3x at 6/4, 13/8 and 7/4 indicating money is normally well placed.

SMP is 2/2 at Ayr in these types of races and sends even money shot FLYAWAYDREAM 16.10 for the hat trick

RISK ON

There are a couple of nice bets coming up this week so not keen to jump into much today. If you’re going to play something we think shortie ALBANY at Windsor in the 19.00 is good for a bit of leverage on a single.

If you follow the ALBANY form line’s through PATERNOSTER SQUARE you'll find LERWICK out today in 17.05. He’s gone off fave so many times but finally got his head in front last time easily… his SP’s must mean he's showing a bit at home? Bred okay, he as EMILY UPJOHN second dam so step up today fine. Would be a good bet if Ed was in better form so just play small if following.
