Went in to check on the portfolio this morning, BGP’s stock looking bullish.

Big, big weekend ahead, so let’s dive in.

Headline Roundup

l’Opera quality continues to grow

In a race that already contains NASHWA, TUESDAY, and LA PARISIENNE, Jessica Harrington made the decision yesterday to supplement TREVAUNANCE for Sunday’s Gr3 Prix de l’Opera.

The three-year-old filly by MUHAARAR picked up Gr3 success in the Prix de Psyche in early August before going on to follow up over course and distance in the Gr2 Prix de la Nonette 18 days later – connections have had to fork out €38,000 for her supplementation.

She joins a field made up of the 1-2-3-4-5-8 from the Gr1 Prix de Diane in June, won by NASHWA, as well as Aidan O’Brien’s Oaks heroine TUESDAY, the hattrick seeking ABOVE THE CURVE, and Shaggas’ MY ASTRA, returning to the track for the first time since her second to LA PETITE COCO in the Gr1 Pretty Polly.

Run or swim?

Longchamp is set to experience a washout for Sunday’s Arc as many weather forecasts predict heavy downpours before the 1m4f contest.

Officials at Longchamp decided to artificially put 5mm of water onto the track last Sunday, but following a downpour of 9mm on Tuesday and the potential of a further 10mm to fall between now and 3:05 on Sunday, plenty are expecting a very soft description in the going.

So which horses will benefit from this recent news?

The obvious place to go is TORQUATOR TASSO who won the race 12 months ago, beating TARNAWA, HURRICANE LANE, ADAYAR, and SEALIWAY – this year he is drawn by the burger vans, a big negative for him and Frankie Dettori.

Andre Fabre’s MARE AUSTRALIS, a horse who has never raced on anything better than good to soft, finished second in the 2020 Gr2 Prix du Conseil de Paris at Longchamp on heavy ground, suggesting he might like it but I’m not convinced on blood.

German horse, MENDOCINO, trained by Strindberg will fucking love it.

Gr1 victory to beat TORQUATOR TASSO for MENDOCINO:

On the flip side, Japanese raider TITLEHOLDER is a fast ground horse through and through, connections told us MISHRIFF wouldn’t run if the ground was a bog, and BROOME has a minimal amount of soft ground form to his name – these three will be hoping that somehow the ground remains on the better side.

TITLEHOLDER victory on good to firm lto:

Beckett cleans up at Salisbury

Ralph Beckett took home the first three races at Salisbury yesterday as the Kimpton-based trainer secured a 449/1 treble.

All three of the races were two-year-old contests and all three successes were debut victories – Beckett has a 21% SR (22/106) in British two-year-old contests. Woof!

Probably the most striking performance of the trio came in the first race as Rob Hornby guided home the CAMELOT filly BLUESTOCKING to an easy victory, handing owners Juddmonte another juvenile to look forward to.

A nice break and the potential look towards an Oaks Trial could be on the cards for BLUESTOCKING.
