HEADLINE ROUNDUP
CHAMPION NO MORE
There is a lot to get into today, so the main headline from yesterday is that ANMAAT, the current British Champion Stakes winner, was ruled out of Ascot later this month, meaning he can’t defend his title.
This is fairly brutal stuff for the Owen Burrows team. He has been plotting ANMAAT back from Champions Day all year, and the current weather really makes us feel like Ascot will be run on soft ground later this month.

Alas, he has been ruled out of the Champions Stakes with a setback, as Burrows said: “It’s gutting for everyone involved. He worked on Wednesday and wasn’t quite right after that. We’ve found a little issue and we’re not going to have the time to get him to Ascot.
“It’s a real shame that he’s not going to be able to try and defend his title, particularly knowing the ground would likely have been in his favour.
“It’s still quite fresh so we haven’t really had the chance to discuss about any options for him in the winter. We’ll be up in Newmarket for the sales next week so I’m sure we’ll get together and have a chat.”
His absence from the race is annoying, the contest looked very good at one stage, and to be fair it still does look good with the likes of CALANDAGAN, OMBUDSMAN, DELACROIX, ALMAQAM, ECONOMICS, ALMERIC, and PRIDE OF ARRAS but ANMAAT will be missed.
