Happy birthday to the only man anyone ever listens to during Cheltenham preview week. Nothing gives men a hard on more than Codd saying “he’s a god given certainty”.
Happy birthday to the ‘Coddfather’! 🥳

The Cheltenham previews aren’t till March (for some losers, late February) so if between now and then you’re struggling for that certain stimulation, look no further.
May I present to you, ‘Le Weekend’.
At least that’s what the French called it when they invented it because it lasts 3 days.
From Friday to Sunday, you can basically get hard, whenever you want… it’s a boner on demand pill and I LOVE IT.
Use code WARMUP10 for 10% off all products, including Le Weekend and the MYRKL anti-hangover pill. Christmas nights out sorted!
Let’s dive in.
Headline Roundup
‘You’re still allowed to whip the horse, just whip them more kindly’ is basically a new rule cleverly thought through by the BHA, set to be introduced on February 6th, 2023, a month before the Cheltenham Festival.
🚨 BREAKING: revised whip rules in Britain to be introduced over jumps from January 9, 2023, before formally coming into force on February 6

Announced in July of this year, the new whip rules put in place will restrict jockeys to the backhand grip only (the Luke Morris style), increase the punishments for breaking the whip allowances, and can put horses at risk of disqualification from races if their jockey strikes the horse four or more times above the permitted amount (seven on the flat and eight over jumps).
The BHA has also allowed flat jockeys to use a longer version of the whip, the same length whip jump jockeys use now, to prevent horses from being struck in the wrong position.
"I don't think there's much difference in force" - @Luke_Morris88 shares his thoughts on riders using the whip in a backhand position only...

There’s surely going to be a lot of retrospective decision-making made given the Stewards will have to check all the jocks whip use in some long ass VAR-style process.
Seems an unnecessary ball ache to me, something which could have been avoided had the original rules been implemented more strictly.
So how has Twitter reacted to this news? Well, Matt Chapman and whoever it is behind the Fergal O’Brien handle were not afraid to share what they thought about the announcement.
The forthcoming whip rule changes are designed to “best preserve the perception of our sport”

New whip rules in January. Oh God give me strength. How have we let this happen?🙏🙏🙏🏇

Nico de Boinville saw the other side of the argument and suggested that the BHA could have been clearer with their new guidance – does he have a point?
"As far as I'm concerned, if you break the rules, you break the rules. I think it should be more black and white."

Circus at the circuit
Weird one here but Newbury Racecourse is set to have a large carnival in the centre of the track for its two-day Coral Gold Cup meeting this weekend.
Newbury has reassured patrons visiting the course for this week’s two-day Coral Gold Cup meeting they will not have their viewing experience hampered by a large funfair in the centre of the track

The funfair, described as “the south’s largest Christmas event”, will be in place until January 2nd and includes a tall Ferris wheel and lots of big circus-type items.
Unsurprisingly, the course has already had to come out and make a statement to say that this won’t affect the race-day experience and that this can offer “great additional entertainment” to the race-day… lads, there’s a great big fuck off ride in the way which means you won’t see the fences down the back straight!

The four-year-old by GALILEO was owned by Ballylinch Stud in partnership with Aquis Farm before yesterday and has 11 rules races under his belt, including success in the Listed Cocked Hat Stakes at Goodwood last year to beat YIBIR.

The future for this 110-rated horse is still unknown, but still being a colt and now under the full ownership of Ballylinch Stud, you could assume that a career at stud is in the pipeline.

Wetherby bumper
Weak fave in LUNAR DISCOVERY who’s taking a lot of the market, take on. Rowley’s needs quicker imo. Haslams form is shit. For me it’s between the two BALCK SAM BELLAMY horses for Murphy and Menzies with Menzies coming into form.
Our view: BOWLAND BELLE should be a good ew at 18’s
Hereford bumper
Nicholls fave fancied and cba to take on despite the breeding being a slight unknown.
Risk on
Finndog’s NAP
When looking at the cards last night I thought it was a tough race between PEMBROKE and previous bumper bet, MAGIC WAVE but the messages have been coming for Skeltons all morning and he’s subsequently been slammed 13/8 into 5/6. Use as lev for another bet, maybe Menzies to place in Wetherby bumper paying 5’s.
