Equinties

Gm Equinauts

As mentioned yesterday, we’re going to be giving back to the people who support this newsletter.

The all-paid-for trip to Vegas for two is just the first of many giveaways.

We want to continually offer prizes and big days out to create an exclusive community for all Equinauts, all for only £1.

BGP HQ, the home of the horses you all know and love (and backed) such as Dave (OCEAN WIND) and the Train (COLTRANE), will also be leasing a flat horse for the newsletter to run next season as it’s own, exclusively for Equinauts to be able to enjoy race days and owner’s social days.

Lot’s to get excited about.

Let’s dive in.

HEADLINE ROUNDUP

LAST OF THE GALILEOS

Goffs Orby kicks off today, Ireland’s premier yearling Sale. Recent graduates of the Sale include; Gr3 winner PRIME ART, Gr1 w ELDAR ELDAROV and Gr1 w JANNAH ROSE.

Here are the Lot’s to looks out for:

Lot 100 - the only DUBAWI catalogued, a bit disappointing considering there are 19 in Tatts Book 1. This colt is out of a Listed winning GALILEO mare, the same cross as GHAIYYATH, NIGHT OF THUNDER and recent Gr1 2yo HENRY LONGFELLOW. The mare has produced a winner with her first foal.

This sale features the mighty, all conquering GAILEO’s last crop. Coolmore haven’t found his successor, Juddmonte have in FRANKEL, so Coolmore will be hoping for one last son to stand up and take his fathers mantle. Two GALILEO’s will go through the ring today, two colts, both culled from Coolmore.

Lot 179 is out of the Gr3 winning mare WIND CHIMES who has two previous progeny by GALILEO, one was placed at 2, the other is unraced.

Lot 269 is out a Gr3 winning mare who has done well with Galileo already producing Gr2 winner DELPHI and Gr3 placed CREDENZA. It’s the immediate family of Gr1 winner EAGLE MOUNTAIN.

Coolmore are also culling a few WOOTTON BASSETT’s, they include:

Lot 12’s dam is a full sister to 2x Gr1 winner SACON WARRIOR. Second Dam is Champion 2yo filly MAYBE. It’s the immediate family of recent Gr1 St Leger winner CONTINUOUS.

Lot 172 is a filly o/o Gr1 Epsom Oaks heroine WAS who has already produced the multiple Gr1 placed filly CONCERT HALL. It’s the immediate family of NEW APPROACH. Although a Coolmore cast off she’ll be a worthy broodmare in time with her lineage.

Phoenix Thoroughbreds sell a WOOTTON BASSETT o/o Listed placed mare SIMANNKA, Lot 92.

Lot 253 is another WOOTTON BASSETT, this lad is a half brother to 3 black type scorers including Gr3 winners PABLO ESCOBARR and ROBERTO ESCOBARR.

The first of the 4 lots catalogued by FRANKEL goes through the ring today:

Lot 32 for Yeomanstown Stud is a colt o/o Listed winner PROMISED MONEY who has already produced listed winner SALIMAH and Gr2 placed 2yo FIVETHOUSANDTOONE (also by Frankel).

Lot 48 is a collectors item, a SEA THE STARS o/o REPOSE, Juddmonte have bought REPOSE now. She’s the dam of multiple Gr1 winner STATE OF REST and the Gr3 winner TRANQUIL LADY.

Lot 106 is by CAMELOT, he’s a full brother to Gr1 Cox Plate winner SIR DRAGONET and dual Listed winner SIR LUCAN. The blue hen mare URBAN SEA is his third dam.

Other stallions to be represented are KINGMAN, DARK ANGEL, KODIAC, TOO DARN HOT, LOPE DE VEGA, NO NAY NEVER and TEOFILO.

JUMPING INTO PLANS

From future flat stars to the jumps stars of now, the National Hunt season is closing in on us fast and we received some updates about a few good jumps horses yesterday.

The first of which came from the Jamie Snowden camp as last season’s Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle winner, YOU WEAR IT WELL, will stay over hurdles this year. The Mares’ Hurdle is her main target and she will start off in the Listed mares’ race at Wetherby in November.

A horse who ran well at the Cheltenham Festival without success was MIGHT I who finished fourth in the Martin Pipe on his last start in the UK. The Harry Fry-trained seven-year-old will now embark on a season on novice chasing.

Over in Seven Barrows, Nicky Henderson has welcomed a new recount into the yard with JOYEUSE, a €235k No Risk At All filly, that will run in the green and gold hoops of JP.

The jumps are coming people.

ARC CONFIRMATIONS

With just five days to go until France’s marquee race, 15 horses have been confirmed for Sunday’s Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe.

Most of the notable horses are still in the race including ante-post favourite ACE IMPACT, however, John & Thady Gosden’s EMILY UPJOHN was not declared for the race with connections favouring Champions Day or Breeders’ Cup.

With CONTINUOUS set to be declared, we could be on for a fair field in this year’s Arc - though not a standout one - and if Jean Claude-Rouget is to be believed, ACE IMPACT could be a shoe-in.

We shall wait until declarations later this week.

MELBOURNE DESERTED

Before we get fully stuck into the jumps, let’s stick with the Flat and it’s bad news for the British as DESERT HERO will miss the Melbourne Cup.

The St Leger third passed his pre-Australia vets tests ahead of the valuable race down under, but the Royal team behind him will not run him in the race as it comes too soon after the Leger.

Racing manager John Warren said: “We thought he had a hard race at Doncaster and we want to give him more time.

“He'll have a nice break now. We wouldn't rule out running him in the race in the future – and we hope his is bright."

TODAYS BEST STATS

Shaggas sends ALHAMBRA PALACE to Nottingham for the 17.00. He has won his last 2 from 3 when the going has been soft or worse, gets his conditions today. Yard are nearly 1 in 3 in these types of races at track.

RISK ON

Like yesterday, today’s another day of bad racing with no stand out bets. That said, it’s Denise Coates’ birthday today so we’re going for a ridiculously speccy, tin foil hat job which, if it comes off, might just ruin her day:

16.25 CORSICAN CAPER

Massive price at 33’s here across the books (38’s on machine), this lad appears useless. A 13 race maiden, Frost has put him into a class 2… why? Well, it for one of two reasons.

  1. Handicapping him further for a 4yo campaign next year

  2. Weight

With Mia’s claim, he carries 20lbs less than most of the field who most are hitting their ceiling. On pieces of earlier form, notably finishing level with LORDSHIP (94) and FAIRBANKS (87), putting him right into the equation today.
