HEADLINE ROUND UP
DOUBLE TROUBLE
Last week, we spoke about the potential rematch between CALANDAGAN and JAN BRUEGHEL in the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes later this month.
It’s a match-up that is worth seeing for the second time, because CALANDAGAN has won a Group 1 since they last met, and they were closely matched at Epsom in the Group 1 Coronation Cup.

When we last wrote about this, JAN BRUEGHEL still wasn’t confirmed for the race, but Aidan O’Brien has now provided a nice update.
He said: “All is good with Jan Brueghel and he's very well. Everything is being geared towards the King George for him and Ascot is the plan. We were obviously delighted with him at Epsom and everything has gone well with him at home since then."
Brilliant, and as if we can’t get anymore excited, O’Brien gave us another nugget of information.
He continued: “We still have one eye on the King George for Lambourn and we will have for the next week or so. We'll make a decision on it then, but I wouldn't necessarily rule him out of it yet. It's still a possible, but no decision has been made."
That. Would. Be. Epic.
Ever since the Derby, the racing community has been a bit negative about this current three-year-old generation, but already this season, we’ve seen LAMBOURN back up his Derby effort in the Irish equivalent, and DELACROIX downed the elders in Saturday’s Coral-Eclipse.
Maybe, just maybe, we’ve been too quick to label this current crop as ‘below average’ or ‘poor’.
We’ve already seen the Eclipse go to the three-year-old’s; could the King George go the same way if LAMBOURN is plotted towards it? Quite possibly!
