British racing mourns the loss of legendary trainer Barry Hills. Trainer of over 3000 winners including five Classic winners and an Arc.
We’ll tell more about Barry’s storied career in Mondays newsletter but for now, our thoughts are firmly with his family and friends and hope Charlie can now get on with training fast horses without the horrible weight of his Fathers illness hanging like a dark cloud over his head.
Gone but will never be forgotten #dad 🤍

Rest in peace, Barry Hills.
Let’s dive in.
HEADLINE ROUND UP
GLORIOUS TARGET
One thing that never gets old is trainers saying ‘he was our best chance of the week’ after they’ve bolted up at a big festival.
Of course, trainers are entitled to keep a bit of information out of the public domain, and if that information happens to be a winner, then so be it, but still, when they appear on ITV Racing in the winners’ enclosure and start saying how they ‘couldn’t see it beat’, you do have to smile through internal rage.
Andrew Balding did something very similar at Royal Ascot this year after HUMIDITY won the Chesham Stakes.
💪 Andrew Balding on Humidity:
“I hope he’s a Guineas horse.
“We felt he was our strongest chance of the week.
“He’s so laid back. I’m a huge fan of Ulysses; I think he’s an underrated stallion.”
20/1 for next year’s 2000 Guineas.

To all who were listening to and reading his post-race thoughts, it seems like they really fancied him, even with the presence of TREANMOR. Luckily we fancied him anyway without the nod!
Balding was quiet about his next target, but it looks to be a point and shoot at Glorious Goodwood for the son of ULYSSES.
Richard Brown of Wathnan Racing said: “We were delighted and he’s a colt with a good future. He’s come out of it well and with Goodwood being an important meeting for Wathnan as it’s supported by Qatar, he will head to the Vintage Stakes.”
He could be quite a nice one to follow!
