Equinties - Irish Derby weekend

Equinties

Gm Equinauts

After a couple of bad picks and dodgy rides this week, it was great to see this newsletter back on the scoreboard yesterday in a big way with two winning singles and a 5/1 double:

This week ends action see’s one of the North’s most famous handicap, the Northumberland Plate, return today plus Irelands own version of the Derby taking centre stage tomorrow.

Not the best racing in the world but there are certainly races no to miss and with that comes betting potential.

Let’s dive in.

HEADLINE ROUNDUP

GOOD START

Yesterday’s racing was probably above average and it’s worth mentioning LAKE VICTORIA, a well-bred winner of the seven-furlong fillies maiden at the Curragh.

All season, Aidan O’Brien-trained horses have needed their first run - especially if their first run is in June - but the FRANKEL half-sister to BLUEGRASS got the job done over the joint-favourite RED LETTER.

The pair pulled three-and-three-quarter lengths clear of the third, SENNA’S GIRL, which always helps.

Post-race, O’Brien said: “It was her first day out, first day at the track, so you'd have to be very happy with her. Ryan was very happy with her.

“She was green and Ryan said he didn't mean to send her on as early but when she went there she started pricking her ears and waiting. She was never away and hadn't been in front that much.

“Obviously she'll go into one of the good fillies races. She has loads of speed, they didn't go very fast but she still travelled very well and quickened very well.

“I think probably on to the Silver Flash or something like that. Obviously depending on where some of the other fillies will go and see what the lads want to do.”

She is also entered for the Moyglare, though connections also have FAIRY GODMOTHER for that.
