Wanting to know what to do with all your winnings?

No, the answer is not blow it all on Royal Ascot (although do put some aside for the champagne if going - it’s open wallet surgery there).

The answer is two things - grow your betting bank (so you can slowly increase your stakes) but also try and put some money aside to invest in the markets and then… simply do nothing. Let it grow.

HEADLINE ROUND UP

CHRISTMAS EVE

Talking of markets, the London Sale is fast approaching. For those who don’t know what is it, it’s Christmas Eve for prospective Royal Ascot owners who can search their deep pockets for a big wad of cash to buy an oven-ready runner amidst the beautiful grounds of Kensington Palace.

Fast horses with big entries, breeding rights to stallions and unraced pedigree’s to die for are - everything for sale on the eve of Royal Ascot!

Last year £8m of thoroughbred equity was knocked down and this years 27 lots might reach further as players with deeper pockets are active in the market looking for anything Wathnan haven’t already eaten up.

This year stallion rights in HELLO YOUMZAIN and Arc winner ACE IMPACT go under the hammer for those wanting a more solid investment over speculatively buying an entrant for the main stage.

As for the RA entrants there are 18 of them - Gr 2 Royal Lodge winner GHOSTWRITER is up for sale with an entry for the Hardwicke; Irish winning debutante POWER BLUE has been consigned by Adrian Murray with an entry for the Coventry and PUROSANGUE’s half brother is available too with entries in the two Group 1’s.

They’re the big names in the sale who’ll most likely be the only ones there to be able to go on and do anything useful, but for the full catalogue, check it out here:

IN CLOVER

If regular newsletter readers didn’t know who Charlie Clover was, then they’d have been very familiar with the name by Sunday afternoon (as he won the race we bet Eve’s in).

Back to Charlie, he’s ditched the Eventing and followed his older brother Tom’s footsteps and got himself a license, starting with a small string of 13 horses.

After a slow start, (we say slow, he’s only been training a few months) with excitement for their first winner soon turning to frustration, Clover has suddenly smashed in 4 winners in a week…and all 2yo’s no less!

His winners will no doubt have impressed owners, so no doubt he will receive more horses to train in the coming years and certainly looks a trainer to follow going forwards.

Good luck, Charlie!

ROYAL ASCOT UPDATES

The count down to THE best racing meeting in the world bar none is at 5 days and we’ve just seen one of the big market moves of the week - THE LIFFEY for Joseph O’Brien in the Royal Hunt (a bloody massive handicap).

Originally starting out under the tutelage of Aidan O’Brien, THE LIFFEY won his first and only start as a 2yo with collateral form from that debut looking very nice (MOUNTAIN BEAR & MY MATE ALFIE in behind him).

He then won the last of his two starts as a 3yo before moving to Joseph O’Brien. This is when we put on the tin foil hat.

Aidan doesn’t care for handicap plots, his job for the lads is a sire and broodmare maker.

So do the handicappers go to his son Joseph? It sure looks like it in this case.

To win the Royal Hunt Cup, a winner will typically record an rpr of >110, a height which THE LIFFEY hasn’t quite achieved yet but given he’s so unexposed with a top pedigree to boot, you’d think there is much more in the locker and we can see why he’s been smashed in to 10’s from 100/1.

Aidan hasn’t got a runner in the race, which backs up our theory of him not being arsed with such complicated handicap planning, so we expect Ryan Moore will be doing the steering.

By no means a tip, it’s purely a mere market observation.

Else where, the Prince Of Wale’s Stakes had a big shake up a few days ago as Shaggas’ monster ECONOMICS was ruled out shoving LOS ANGELES into strong fave. Yes, we have mentioned this already but since then there has been sustained support for ANMAAT following the bullish comments made by his trainer Owen Burrows. He’s basically saying he’ll reverse the form although Shadwell manager Angus Gold has been a little more reserved given the ground might be too quick for him. It’ll be a mouth-watering clash none the less!

Now on to the raiders, several international stars have been seen ripping up the turf of HQ.

First up, CARL SPACKLER, a beautiful chestnut son of LOPE DE VEGA was allowed to let of some steam under Jamie Spencer yesterday.

So, who is CARL SPACKLER?

Picked up for 350k at Tatts’ 2021 yearling sales, he was shipped of to ‘Merica where he has spent his whole life racing under the guidance on Chad Brown. Yulong Investments have now acquired him with a view to run him in England, Royal Ascot’s Queen Anne Stakes first, then maybe Goodwood, before heading down under where he will have a bash at the Group 1 Cox Plate, one the worlds richest races of which new owners Yulong won last year with ex-Boughey horse VIA SISTINA.

Other raiders who enjoyed the hallowed turf of HQ’s July Course were last years King Charles III Stales winner ASFOORA and Japanese sprint star SATONO REVE.
