NOTE: Sending today’s newsletter out twice as some people didn’t get the first one.
Oh and the Intern (who organised today’s newsletter while we head to HQ) made a big mistake by mixing up a couple of fillies. We’ve corrected that.
We said Balding’s yard were quietly confident of a big day yesterday and to be fair they did get two up for the W but unfortunately the one’s we were on bitterly disappointed.
A suspected, a better day was had by that man Shaggas. He had them lined up yesterday and landed an across the card treble, providing both racing fans and degenerate gamblers alike, the biggest certainty of the flat season in MY PROSPERO.
Every single racing fan on X just had a banker land with MY PROSPERO.

Try it through UK MEDS, use discount code EQUINTIES10 and thank us later.
p.s none of this is medical advice but we’ve tried it…
HEADLINE ROUNDUP
HOT LOTS
Agent Amanda Skiffington said she felt “totally sick” during the sale of SAFFRON BEACH’s full sister at the Goffs Orby sale yesterday as she went to €1,650,000 to secure the NEW BAY filly for owner Fiona Carmichael.
Set to run in the purple and green silks of well-known sprint handicapper HURRICANE IVOR, the well-bred filly is out of FALLING PETALS who won once for John Gosden.
Of course, her highlight offspring is the brilliant SAFFRON BEACH, a multiple Group winning monster for Jane Chapple-Hyam.
The own brother to dual Group 1 winner Saffron Beach makes €450,000 at @Goffs1866 Orby Sale. The colt by New Bay, offered by @BallylinchStud at the sale, was purchased by Amanda Skiffington.

Skiffington said: “The pedigree is fantastic and she’s just beautiful. We bought the brother last year, who looks like being very good, so that added to the appeal a bit. We thought she’s a collector’s item. She’s a special filly to breed from later on.”
She certainly looks like a horse to be excited for, as does the KINGMAN half-brother to SKITTER SCATTER who sold to Anthony Stroud on behalf of Godolphin for €650,000.
Godolphin already have a good knowledge of the pedigree as they have VICTORY DANCE from the same mare, DANE STREET, and with that Group 1-winning SKITTER SCATTER influence on the page, he will need to be followed.
Despite the big bids to secure these two, they weren’t close to being top lot as this space was reserved for none other than one by FRANKEL. The filly, well-related to the legendary KINGMAN, topped yesterday’s Goffs Orby sale as Coolmore’s MV Magnier splashed a huge €1,850,000.
Out of MULTILINGUAL, a half-sister to the four-time Group 1-winning KINGMAN, the filly is a half-sister to the then-Charlie Hills-trained TILSIT, a Group 2 Summer Mile Stakes winner in 2021.
𝗡𝗘𝗪 𝗧𝗢𝗣 𝗟𝗢𝗧
Magical moments tonight at #GoffsOrby as Lot 525, a filly by the world class sire Frankel (@JuddmonteFarms), is offered by @camaspark & purchased by M V Magnier for €1,850,000 🎆🎊

BALLYDOYLE CAST-OFF’S
From unraced to highly tried, some big names were entered into the Tattersalls Autumn HIT catalogue including a big influx of Aidan O’Brien-trained horses.
The world’s largest horses in training sale is set to take place next month and the likes of DENMARK, AESOP’S FABLES, and POINT LONSDALE will go under the hammer in what is a big shak-up at Ballydoyle.
From other stables, an interesting entry into the sale is the recent Group 2 Gimcrack Stakes winner LAKE FOREST who is set to run Saturday’s Group 1 Middle Park Stakes.
The Group 3 Criterion Stakes successor AUDIENCE, the Group 1-winning PROUD AND REGAL and recent Group 3 Desmond Stakes winner LORD MASSUSUS are also included in the entries list.
BIG SUPPS
And finally, as expected, both CONTINUOUS and FANTASTIC MOON have been supplemented for Sunday’s Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe.
Having originally been taken out of the race by connections, FANTASTIC MOON was put back into the race yesterday as the weather forecast is set to be favourable for their chances.
The St Leger winner is a general 13/2-shot to be the first horse this decade to do the St Leger-Arc double while the German Derby victor is a big 14/1 for the season-defining contest.
So who wins the big one? We posted HUKUM at 14’s months ago and despite the forecast, think he’ll still be hard to beat but who are you with? Shout us on X @equinties.
YOUNG BLOOD
There are some serious pedigree’s on show today so we’ve previewed two races for our Young Blood section today, both at HQ.
13.50 MAIDEN STAKES
ORTELIUS cost a whopping 1.1mill in America last year, by JUSTIFY o/o a multiple Group 3 placed mare. Ran well to be second on debut, trainers juveniles improve a lot from their debuts so a bold show is expected.
WAFEI is another by an American Triple Crown winner in AMERICAN PHAROAH. Only just touched off on debut by a Godolphin debutant, almost a photo finish, the winner runs later on in the Gr3 so clearly thought something of. WAFEI was a 185k breeze Up, slowly away but knew how to gallop. On the shortlist.
DUKE’s COMMAND by DUBAWI o/o a Galileo mare cost a whopping 1.6mill last year. Stable not in the same vein of form from last year but can get a lot of fto winners, betting to guide on chances.
MARCHING THUNDER is a Godolphin homebred by DUBAWI, second choice on jockey bookings. Dam one once in 8 starts but is a half sister to a Group 1 horse. Best watched on debut.
BELLUM JESTUM made a sedate debut then ran well to be 2nd, then ran poorly on his last start on soft ground to be 4th. Back on a firmer surface looks ideal for him today, place claims.
EBEN ZABEEL is a Shadwell homebred by SEA THE STARS o/o a TEOFILO mare who was a Listed winner and twice Group placed. Holds a Gr1 entry. Charlie Hills’ Dad Barry has won the race twice in the last 10 years.
SYNCHRONIZE by FRANKEL cost 700k, dam whose by DUBAWI hasn’t produced much but she’s a half sister to a Gr1 placed mare. Might need the run, watch on debut.
DR HACKENBUSH cost 85k as a Breeze Up, nice model who breezed well. By ULYSSES whose progeny get better with racing however coming from the breeze ups and this stable he’ll know his job. Betting to guide.
Others to note would be Kevin Ryan’s debutant INISHERIN who’s by SHAMARDAL o/o a Group 1 winning mare (as a 4yo) and from the family of Gr1 Queen Anne winner TRIPLE TIME. Of interest but best watched on debut.
Verdict: A winner in this race hasn’t come from a double digit stall number since 2019 and before that it was 2014 so best to keep in the low draws. ORTELIUS stands out by a mile, he made a promising debut, trained and ridden by the best, has Group entries, good looking son of JUSTIFY who’s had a great year with his 2yos. He’s got most going for him.
15.35 GROUP 3 TATTERSALLS STAKES
A big field, let’s get stuck in.
MILITARY is raced once, won once for Ballydoyle. A 375,000gns yearling purchase, his dam was a Gr3 winner in France and is a sister to the dam of Gr1 winner WONDERFUL TONIGHT. Further back in the pedigree and you’ll find CAMELOT.
EBEN SHADDAD is also raced once, won once, and was Gosden’s first 2yo turf winner when he won on the July Course. A €190,000 breeze up at Arqana, his family is very American although he is out of a GALILEO mare. Could be anything, but needs to build on his win.
ALYANAABI is a Shadwell homebred, trained by Owen Burrows. He’s by TOO DARN HOT who won the Dewhurst at the track, and has had a smart start to his career. This lad was fourth in the hottest Listed race this year at Ascot. He had Rosallion in front, but DANCING GEMINI and Champagne 2nd SUNWAY in behind.
LEGEND OF TIME is another raced once, won once for Godolphin. Considering Sheik Mo spent north of 25 million guineas at Tattersalls last year, this lads purchase price of 150,000gns is measly compared to his barn mates. Looking at his pedigree it’s surprising he is dropping down in trip. By SEA THE STARS, his sister is LOVING DREAM who won the Prix de Royallieu over 1m6f. This is the family of St Leger winner Brian Boru, Hardwicke winner SEA MOON, Arc and Derby winner WORKFORCE as well as BEST SOLUTION who was champion stayer in Australia.
SON OF MAN is raced once, won once for Jane Chapple-Hyam and China Horse Club. He didn’t meet his reserve as a yearling so wasn’t sold, by Dark Angel and out of a LE HAVRE mare CRISOLLES. CRISOLLES is a full sister to SOTTEVILLE who won the Prix de Royallieu. He was slowly away at Yarmouth, but got low to the ground and won well in the end.
INISHFALLEN has run 5 times and won once for Manton Thoroughbreds. He looked a very nice yearling at £70,000, this is from the family of SHOOT CLEAR, the Champion 2yo filly in England in 1983. By EXCEED AND EXCEL and out of a LYLLACHY mare who is 2 from 2 with her progeny. Beaten by AABLAN in the Solario Stakes Gr3, he had the help of the rail that day and they finished in a group. Difficult to gauge but has some nice experience to go to war with today.
ZABRISKIE POINT is by BLUE POINT, and not sold as a yearling when he didn’t make his reserve, bidding stopped at 70,000gns. A big Meon Valley family, Gr1 winners include DASH TO THE TOP, ANAPURNA, SPEEDY BOARDING and this family goes back to ONE IN A MILLION who was Champion 3yr Old Filly in 1979. This lad has won two races now for Charlie Hills, he was 4th at York in a nursery handicap and that reads well; ROOM SERVICE and STARLUST were in front but they are both smart 2yo’s especially the latter has beaten the likes of ARRAY, twice. Big price but he’s got a squeak.
Verdict: Some big bubbles will burst after today. Owen Burrows’ ALYANAABI won the same maiden with ALFLAILA for the same connections. The form of his Ascot 4th reads well, with some nice horses in front but importantly in behind as well. ZABRISKIE POINT at a bigger price the ew angle if you don’t like shorties.
STATS OF THE DAY
Varian has only ever sent 4 young horses to Pontefract, his sr 50%. FLAVOUR MAKER reps him today in the 14.45
GALE FORCE MAYA is back in the 15.00 to regain her title having won it in ‘21. She also placed 2nd and 3rd in ‘19 and ‘20 respectively.
Charlie Appleby is 2 from 2 in the 16.45 and sends VICTORY DANCE for the treble.
RISK ON
There are whispers for both Shaggas’ and O’Brien’s in the Newmarket first but the draw is unkind for WAFEI so we’ve gone with ORTELIUS as per the Young Blood preview. We’ll play him (just in case he’s a Guineas rocket) plus:
17.18 RANGER THUNDERBOLT
A BGP grad. Despite being bottom of the handicap, he’s improving and ready and bouncing. Should go close. 7/1 for 4 places, a couple of bookies paying 5 so shop around for the ew bet but we think he can win.
