Perspective is something often missed in emotionally heightened conversations, especially by those shouting in the virtual world of Racing X.

The ‘Frankie not going to Listowel’ thing needs perspective before you all start calling Frankie a ‘cock’. We provide it below in Headline Roundup.

Another example is the Racing League which returns to our screens this evening. Wow, is that event marmite with some people hating it. But let’s bring a little perspective to the table.

The organisers are investing a load into it by trying to attract competitive field sizes which in turn, should attract more people, and even new people, to engage with the sport. Even if the Racing League isn’t ‘for you’, efforts to better the sport shouldn’t be made little of just because the heats might be too competitive to have a serious bet in.

How can the Racing League be improved? We’re sure lot’s of people have their own ideas but from talking to people who turn the cogs in racing (the trainers and owners) the outstanding difference which could be made is the level of racing.

The Racing League is for 80-100 horses which effectively leaves out a huge majority of the racing population. The Racing League needs some lower category racing so the ‘smaller’ owners get a chance to pay off the training fee’s with their 70 rated horses. It doesn’t help that that only trainer on the RL’s advising committee is Ralph Beckett who, let’s be honest, probably doesn’t have a horse in his yard rated lower than 70. We need someone liiiike…Mick Appleby on there. He’s a trainer who predominantly has lower rated horses but has recently enjoyed success at Group level. He would bring good perspective to the table.

This whole gambling reform thing needs perspective too. From both sides.

We whole heartedly agree that there needs to be stricter protocol in place to prevent people doing their net worth in a single afternoon. That’s wrong. Affordability checks are like credit assessment’s in the square mile - it’s normal. Punters shouldn’t be disgruntled at this. They should however be p!ssed off with the misrepresentation of ‘the punter’ in all this. The Gambling Commission seem to be armed with a full line up of recovering gambling addicts which is really only going to serve one purpose. Forget the bookies, we know their view. F them. Where are the people who enjoy a bet? We need more perspective.

Anyway, rant over. Lets dive in.

HEADLINE ROUNDUP

DETTORI DENIED

Racing X went into uproar yesterday as it was revealed that Frankie Dettori would not be attending the Listowel Harvest Festival as “he had one price and we had another”.

Why did this cause issues. Well, let’s provide you some context.

According to former Listowel chairman – and now well-renowned Irish photographer - Pat Healy, the retiring jockey was set to ride at the meeting last year but he got himself suspended in Germany and was then unable to attend. The superstar jockey and course had agreed on a fee to ride at the week-long meeting last year as a bit of a contingency plan– something perhaps unknown to the public – and in true Frankie style, flippantly “promised” that he would return the next year.

Understandably however slightly naively, the meeting organisers assumed that the fee would be the same as agreed last year.

Errr hello!? This is Frankie’s (supposedly) last year… supply and demand etc etc.

And as you may expect, a few people had some opinions on the news, without all the facts:

Something tells us Frankie doesn’t care what you think. Anyway, despite missing out on this venture to Ireland, he will be travelling to Northern Ireland on Friday instead for his first appearance at Down Royal.

IRELAND CHASE

It’s everyone’s favourite Racing League this evening as the team-based event will pitch up at Wolves for seven races on ITV.

As we keep saying, the competitive, entertaining and high-value handicaps attracting good horses miiiiight not be to everyone’s liking (smh) but with just two weeks left of the competition, here are a few pointers ahead of the 17.45 start.

Despite the efforts of team leader Jamie Osborne, Team Wales & The West have been unable to pull out a comfortable lead on Team Ireland thanks to some lucky placing by team manager Kevin Blake.

The green team banged in two winners last week and could be onto another winning night with tonight’s line up. First up is THAT form line. GUTSY GIRL bolted up at Carlisle and the third has since boosted the form.

SUICIDE BLONDE was second in that race and is now favourite in the 17.45 repping the green team.

MOMAER is next for the Irish in the 18.15. We have her top after her Leicester romp. A return to faster going should see her go close in our opinion.

George Boughey is mob-handed at Wolves tonight with three runners for Team Ireland, though his best chance looks to be NAXOS in the 19.45. The 3yo receives a six-pound weight-for-age allowance and is still unexposed off 92 after just five runs, including a win over seven furlongs on the all-weather at Newcastle on debut.

Later on the card is A J Martin’s BELGOPRINCE who recorded a RPR of 84 when bolting up off 67 in the Amateurs’ Derby at Epsom 10 days ago and has a penalty of just 5lbs for his effort.

When thinking of Wolverhampton, one trainer who loves sending his runners to the track is Tony Carroll and he has just one representative tonight with LEQUINTO in the £100,000 six-furlong event at 20.45. He was a clear second at Windsor in unsuitable conditions last time out and could benefit from the return to a track he has won three times at… but he’s up against it though and the money horse is for Irelands SPACE COWBOY who, although clearly fragile having had a year off, has ability and is still unexposed.

We think Ireland could have a VERY bullish evening.

YOUNG BLOOD

15.40 SALISBURY

MIAHARRIS by ZOUSTAR won the St Hugh’s Listed race lto, clearly got heaps of ability but the draw is a big worry today. The most recent winner from a wide draw was HAPPY ROMANCE from 11. MIAHARRIS has it all to do from 15.

SOPRANO looked good on debut and has become a consistent runner in this company, was second lto in Gr3 company over 7f, the drop in trip will suit. Here’s her effort in the hot Albany:

SYMBOLOGY beat DOROTHY LAWRENCE lto in the Lowther Group 2, there’s not much between them on that effort. You could argue the race developed away from SYMBOLOGY and she ran down the middle of the track so possibly she is certainly ahead of DL.

AIR FORCE INDI won a nice maiden at Newmarket, the third has won since and the second runs tomorrow at Ascot. Karl Burke knows what he’s doing so don’t dismiss.

PROPITIOUS looked good lto at Redcar, she needs to step up to beat a few of these but looks to be going the right way.

QUEEN OF MOUGINS is a really interesting contender for the Ralph Beckett yard, by first season sire TEN SOVEREIGNS, she made a really taking debut at Newbury on good to soft. The drier ground will be in her favour today.

BETTIES BAY clearly hated the soft ground lto, she beat BOURGEOISIE before that like QUEEN OF MOUGINS, needs to step up again today.

ONTHEMONEYHONEY won her maiden in workmanlike fashion, she really stuck her head out after running on the outside of the pack. Cost 50k, dam is a full sister to Gr3 2yo CRAZY HORSE.

UNBREAK MY HEART is a half sister to HEARTACHE who was a Royal Ascot winning 2yo. Been consistent without being amazing, needs to step up today.

Verdict: MIAHARRIS looks nice but her draw is rancid. At 4’s SOPRANO could be a dirty ew play, we love the Albany Stakes form - it’s the best from Royal Ascot but the whispers for this race are all for Burkes AIR FORCE INDI at 8’s. Might be too hot to have a bet in though but their our two options vs the well regarded fave from stall 15.

STATS OF THE DAY

After a hot streak last week and a winner Tuesday, there’s only one stand out stat today.

CRAZY LUCK 16.15. She finished 4th in the race last year but chinned 2nd in ‘21, so obviously today as been mapped out.

RISK ON

Some of you will throw your phone at the wall after reading what we’re about to say but we’re going to have a small poke in the Racing League. We can’t get away from the GUTSY GIRL form line. We will do a dirty ew double on SUICIDE BLONDE 17.45 and MOMAER 18.15 paying 32’s. MOMAER is a single if SUICIDE BLONDE fails the form line.

15.00 GOODEVENINGMRBOND

Charlie Bishop got this lad out of trouble at Chepstow and he still won so easily. On pedigree he’s a fast ground horse so you might want to upgrade his previous runs and with today’s nursery being no harder than lto, he should prove well handicapped. Buick in the plate. 2yo’s so anything can happen but 15/8 should make a good bet.
