Equinties - Grand National plot

Equinties

Should have stayed out the market yesterday, it was dire racing and Hunter Chase's are hard enough to get right when the horses running are typically so inconsistent.

That said, there's some opportunity for yield today as Fontwell is heavy going and away from the mud, there are whispers for some certified rockets at Southwell.

The TOTE Fantasy League we joined at the weekend is actually available to play everyday - I'm going to enter a stable today to control the betting chimp as I know I'll just look at Fontwell and think I can go through the card.

Now, let's dive in.

Headline roundup

Paintree for Grand National organisers (okay, that was bad)

The Grand National is two weeks away, it's completely sold out and is set to be one of the biggest days in the British sporting calendar.

However, the Liverpool course will be on a high security alert all weekend as once again an undercover reporter from The Mail revealed there was set to be a mass protest from vegan activists at the three-day event. Shock.

The article, which was front page news for the Mail on Sunday, revealed that “up to 100 Animal Rebellion activists” are set to storm the course with bolt cutters and super glue their hands together to form a “human barrier”.

Activists tried to do similar things before the Epsom Derby and Royal Ascot last year but nothing came to fruition.

It's not often I will suggest anyone ready the Daily Mail, but this article is genuinely worth your time.

Also, the Betfair Weighed-In podcast that includes Kevin Blake, Tony Calvin, Vanessa Ryle, and Brendan Duke cover it very well and is worth a listen from 34:00 to 40:00.

Free plug, you’re welcome.

Homeless Songs back home

Dermot Weld’s Irish 1000 Guineas successor HOMLESS SONGS will make her seasonal return at Leopardstown on Wednesday in the Listed Heritage Stakes.

The four-year-old was off the track for 111 days after her Classic victory and ended her season with two disappointing runs in the autumn, however, having been given a further break since then, there is hope she can return to her devastating self.

It’s not an easy field she has to face, however, as she'll take on Joseph O’Brien’s BUCKAROO who is set to be ridden by Oisin Murphy.

The four-year-old colt was just denied by a horse we mentioned yesterday in PIZ BADILE in last year’s Ballysax and he could have improved for a summer of grass.

Eight will go to post for the race - looks to be an interesting contest, a race won last year by PEARLS GALORE.

Derby off the table

AL RIFFA, a general 12/1 shot for the Epsom Derby, is unlikely to head to the British Classic as trainer Joseph O’Brien is unsure whether he will stay the trip.

Instead, the National Stakes winner will head to the Irish 2000 Guineas in late-May fto over a mile.

The top Irish trainer said: "I don’t know if he would stay a mile and a half. If he could carry his speed at that trip he would be an exceptional horse. I don’t think he would be going for a Derby as I don’t see him as a real stayer, he shows speed in his races and in his training."

The WOOTEN BASSETT colt is 3/1 for the first Irish Classic of the year.

Summary: ALL AUTHORIZED is all you need in this one.

Disclaimer: if you see a mega-drift, it means its massive gambling owner is stopping it. He's one of the biggest gamblers in racing and his money talks.

Risk On

A few shorties I cant see getting beat today, namely MONJULES in the 15.30 in a field of horses who need quick ground (bad NO TACKLE who can't win) but main plays are:

18.00 ZOOLOGY

Drifted all night but don't worry about that, he's a rocket and worth a bet at 11/10 against the gambled Balding horse whos causing a sell off on Fergusons. Let them back Baldings.. it should be more money in our pocket. Bumper lev makes him just shy of 3/1. Full bet.

19.00 MOUNTAIN SONG

Another shortie at 7/4 but this girl is defo the horse to beat in this race. Half bet on her, single only.

Was going to post this as a bigger priced play but it's been slammed into 8's and too short for so many risks attached so add to your TOTE Fantasy stable.
