Equinties - Glorious Saturday

Equinties

Gm, Equinauts

Glorious Goodwood Saturday. The final day.

We had one winner yesterday, which paid for a couple of the losers and left us down less than a point for the month.

It's been a bloody volatile few weeks. There was a 20 point swing in the space of of a few days but it's the near misses that sting the most. We've had horses beaten a less than a nose at double digit prices. and others who only decided to show up next time out.

That's betting. Hopefully we can finish Glorious Goodwood on a high and head into August with some momentum.

As for the comp, many of you had ridiculously high hopes of a double-digit July (thank you, but you're crazy!). Alas, sadly, Keith was the winner.

Keith, if you're reading this, reach out on X and we'll take you racing!

HEADLINE ROUNDUP

🥽TOP JOCK

Unbelievably, Ryan Moore didn’t have a winner yesterday but takes a one-win lead into the final day of Glorious Goodwood.

The race to be crowned leading rider will get interesting today as James Doyle and Dylan Browne McMonagle both just one behind and all have a good book of rides.

Moore's best chance to maintain the lead looks to come aboard SPEAKERS CORNER in the maiden or COMPLETELY RANDOM in the Stewards Cup. AMELIA EARHART needs to improve in the Lillie Langtry Stakes and HOPEWELL ROCK kicks off his afternoon but might prefer softer going.

Doyle arguably has the strongest book of rides, headlined by Royal Ascot winner OPPORTUNITY in the Glorious Stakes. He also partners SING US A SONG, EVENING SAIGON, the 400k maiden MARKET LEADER and the well-handicapped REAL GAIN.

Dylan McMonagle rode like a man possessed yesterday and judged his front running rides as if someone replaced his brain with a damn clock. His rides today include last year's runner-up AERONAUTIC, Melbourne Cup runner-up GOODIE TWO SHOES, TUCO SALAMANCA and Group 1-entered juvenile LEADLIGHT.

With just one winner separating the trio, who are you thinking will take Goodwood top jock?

💼BHA

Racing is always at war with itself and a governance review has turned into another internal headache for incoming BHA chair Simon Cox.

Following a review prompted by demands from Ascot, Goodwood, York, Newbury, Chester and the Jockey Club, the Racecourse Association (RCA) has agreed to overhaul its voting structure, replacing its long-criticised one-racecourse-one-vote model with a system that gives equal voting power to its four main racecourse groups.

The RCA has also agreed to stop appointing two directors to the BHA board, with those positions becoming independent instead.

However, the biggest issue remains unresolved.

Some of Britain's biggest racecourses believe the changes don't go far enough and want to represent themselves directly on the BHA rather than through the RCA.

This is a crap idea. They’re better off together. Back in your boxes.

Cox will inherit a major governance headache, with the future role and influence of the RCA still very much up for debate.

BIG RACE PREVIEWS

14.25 1M 4F GROUP 3 GLORIOUS STAKES

Shaggas trains both OPPORTUNITY and AL AASY, so you’d think which ever one the market sides with, that’ll be the preferred one.

AL AASY has been a proper servant for Shaggas and he arrives here for his hat-trick bid. He’s a proper Group race hoover. Nearly every time he lines up in a Group 2 or 3 in his favourite conditions, he wins. He almost so nearly won a Group 1 but was headed by PYLEDRIVER.

The market is suggesting OPPORTUNITY is AL AASY’s main threat. He’s more than half AL AASY’s age and is on the up, last seen winning at RA. His pedigree is lovely, being by the mighty FRANKEL out of PIVOTAL mare (PIVOTAL is a great dam sire). Shaggas described this lad as one his best chances of the Royal meeting. The ceiling has not been met.

IN MY TEENS is interesting. Not often you see JP’s colours at Goodwood. This girl bolted up last time out and they really might stick to the flat now because she looks very good. She’s so unexposed on the flat, it’s hard to know how good she is but it would be no surprise should she give the boys something to think about.

GHOSTWRITER is a bit of an unknown since he was picked out by Kia’s son (lol). He’s been injured and we’re just not sure how good a trainer De Foy is.

ENFJAAR and KINGS GAMBIT can’t win.

Verdict: We’re AL AASY guys, we’ll be rooting for him because he’s been so good for the newsletter but we have a feeling there is A LOT to come from IN MY TEENS at this new trip and she could spring a surprise.

15.00 1M 6F GROUP 2 LILLI LANGTRY STAKES

Anyone remember us tipping the 2023 winner SUMO SAM at 40/1? We do.

Back to this year, WAARDAH won this famous race last year and is back to defend her title. Her recent form reads really well (KALPANA and ESTRANGE etc). She faces the reopposing DANIELLE for the Gosden’s. She’d much prefer slower ground.

SANTORINI STAR bombed at RA but before that ran second in a French Group 1. Very versatile with the ground. Interesting for Bloom.

CONSENT has form with SANTORINI STAR. Very nice wins in the locker including a French Group 1. We think she needs good or slower.

AMELIA EARHART and GOODIE TWO SHOES shouldn’t be winning this unless the step up in trip improves EMELIA EARHART by 10lbs.

Verdict: Very strong message from the Burrows yard for last winner WAARDAH.
