Well damn. It happened again.
Jaw-dropping! 🤯
Trailblazing Quickthorn (16-1) and enterprising @TomMarquand dazzle in the @AlShaqabRacing@Goodwood_Races Cup 👀

When QUICKTHORN has done that twice before, jocks behind have to change tactics. COLTRANE gets further and has the tow to go with him at the pace Marquand sets - he’d prefer that than sprinting the last furlong.
What do they say the definition of insanity is?

Oisin should have followed Tom Marquand, that’s it. Unbelievably, post-race Oisin even said he couldn't hold on to COLTRANE…
YOU SHOULD HAVE LET HIM GO.
Let's not take anything away from Hollie Doyle’s husband’s ride, it was inspired and all the jockeys in his wake f⁎cked up, what’s done is done.
It’s not like that race even featured the worst rides of the day anyway. Check out Buick on IBERIAN. Wow.
Let’s dive in.
BGP FANTASY LEAGUE COMP
We’ve been hyping up the TOTE’s new Fantasy game since we found it. Why? Simply because there is nothing else out there now which can help people cage the betting chimp while maintaining an emotional interest in the big races of the day.
People bet way too much and the Fantasy allows you to get limited risk on, fill your brain up with the dope it craves and still be in the mix for a big win.
If we hit 300 stables today, top of the BGP private league comes golfing with BGP Capital.
HEADLINE ROUND UP
Goodwood is underway and the fingers of punters have been stung already thanks to ARRAY’s loss in the maiden stakes to the 20/1 Mansa Musa. Lol.
Mansa Musa, trained in Ireland by @DiegoDi41476096, shows an ultra-willing attitude to deny Array in the @BritishEBF maiden @Goodwood_Races under @Rossaryan15 🏇
The Ten Sovereigns colt steps up considerably from his @NaasRacecourse debut to score at odds of 20-1...

However, while we were laughing at Twitter X (and our bet slips) going up in flames, IBERIAN, one of our stronger bets of the day, took a while to get going and didn’t get to the winner, HAATEM. That was hard to watch and typical given Hill’s just landed a 30/1 winner in ANCIENT ROME.
Follow IBERIAN, we know he's a good one.
Racing X finally landed a winner at Goodwood yesterday as KINROSS delivered the goods at a shade of odds against to hold off the late charge of our speccy pick, the three-year-old, ISAAC SHELBY.
Nice Lennox Stakes there with KINROSS and ISAAC SHELBY both well clear.
Weight allowance still just not enough for ISAAC SHELBY.
Good race.

This was a great race with two good horses, however, maybe they both will just fail to hit that top-level Group 1 quality.
And then, in the feature race of the day, while our boy COLTRANE ran his heart out again, it was QUICKTHORN and Tom Marquand who stole the race from the front in a frustrating watch for many punters.
There are freebies and there is that.

BIG RACE PREVIEWS
14.25 GROUP 3 OAK TREE STAKES
A highly competitive fillies race with 5lbs separating 6 in the big field of 15.
JUMBLY possibly shaped like a non-stayer at Ascot, a drop in trip here to 7 furlongs is a plus. She has won on easy ground but possibly prefers good ground. Her run in the Gr2 Duke Of Cambridge Stakes reads well.
FAST RESPONSE loves heavy ground. Well drawn in stall 1 and is amongst the highest rated in the field. She was only just denied by HOLGUIN (r111) at Chester and had WITCH HUNTER behind her (r108), considering she was drawn in stall 10 that was a fine effort. Big chance.
MATILDA PICOTTE was badly drawn in the Sandy Lane in stall 1. A solid third in the 1000 Guineas, TAHIYRA has obviously given that race so much substance now.
INTERNATIONALANGEL draw looks key here, especially a very low draw and this filly has got it plumb in stall 2. This filly ran cracker in this race last year at 66/1 and her odds this year are a little insulting.
BREEGE has good form at Goodwood as a 2yo, she beat BIGHT DIAMONDS who was placed in the Gr1 Fillies Mile next time out. Campaigned quite hard at the start of the year, was down the field in the Guineas. Mighty run in the Sandringham.
DREAM OF LOVE and WHITE MOONLIGHT run for Godolphin. The former won’t mind the ground says Appleby and the drop in trip is a help. The latter, trained by bin Suroor has come forward from her Listed win at Chelmsford but needs a career best and faster ground.
OLIVIA MARALDA’s chances might have been scuppered by the rain. One to watch for another day.
French fillies have done well in this race in the past. SICILIAN DEFENSE and SAMEDI RIEN are quite smart prospects that won’t mind the soft ground. However, the draw has been unkind to them. SICILAN DEFENSE has a lovely chance as she can be held up, so no doubt she’ll miss the break and tuck in. Her trainer won the Gr3 for fillies on Sunday, so he has his string in fine fettle.
AMERICAN KESTREL will like the mud but could be out of her depth. Her one piece of form from September when beaten by TRIBALIST puts her in the ring. Drawn 5 has been kind but she has to a bit to find on ratings.
Verdict: This is so tough and anything can happen with fillies, this preview is really for the Fantasy. You're not going to go far wrong with FAST RESPONSE if more rain comes. BREEGE will like the conditions today and has a helpful inside draw. She may well have won the Sandringham at Ascot last time out if she had a clearer run and she holds some smart 2yo form at Goodwood as well which is always encouraging. The each-way play in a competitive field to hedge the shorties is possibly the French fillies; landed on SICILIAN DEFENSE who is not drawn well but can get into the frame and she is a tasty 22/1.
15.00 GROUP 3 MOLECOMB STAKES
KYLIAN by Invincible Spirit looked very good on his last start at Sandown with Ryan Moore on board and he takes the ride again.
BIG EVS won the Windsor Castle Stakes in seriously impressive fashion after coming second on debut. He clearly improved a lot from his debut and considering he’s only had the two runs further improvement is likely. Good draw too.

BAHEER is by MEHMAS and the Young Blood pick lto. Bizzarely gelded before his debut but has shown promise on both his starts to date. He did get upset in the stalls at Royal Ascot so he’s clearly a bit of a thinker. He’s rated very highly by the trainer and yard does well at this meeting inc. the winner of this race last year. Good draw again.
Hannon said before his debut this was his fastest 2yo… ever. They gambled the f out of him, lost.
Played up at Royal Ascot, didn’t run.
Now, finally BAHEER has delivered.
Young Blood winner at 9/4. twitter.com/i/web/status/1…

We got told that PUROSANGUE was quite handy before his date with the sales ring as a 2yo and he duly obliged when he did a nice breeze and put in a powerful performance on debut to win by 4 lengths. The form looks weak but he won well. He needs to step up after a lacklustre performance in the July Stakes but the ground might prove an issue today. Annoying.
BARNWELL BOY ran 11th behind BIG EVS at Ascot, he’s got a lot of ground to make up with that individual and doesn’t have a good draw. Was impressive on debut over the course but 6f rather than the 5f today.
SHAGRAAN was second on his last start in a listed race, the son of Sioux Nation needs another step up today.
HACKMAN goes up against KYLIAN again after being trounced by him lto and he re-opposes BIG EVS who did an even bigger blow to his ability at Ascot. Up against it to reverse the form around with those two individuals.
MARKAKOL is drawn very badly being in the middle of the track. Ground not sure to suit, he’s up against it.
Verdict: If BIG EVS was trained by a big gun yard he’d be favourite, however don’t underestimate Mick Appleby as he is a seriously good trainer. Not seen him in the flesh but he looked a big horse on the TV, perhaps why he's got the name he does, so should muscle through the mud fine. He’ll have the rail to suit. BAHEER is the clear ew play in the race, he has a good draw, trainer does well at the meeting, improved considerably from his debut to his second run.
15.35 GROUP 1 SUSSEX STAKES
We're going to put it out there, we think PADDINGTON was lucky last time. And us…
5’s, 4’s, 3’s and 2’s on PADDINGTON.
And the 2/1 forecast with EMILY for the newsletter.
BOOOOM.

Don't get us wrong, he put in a brilliant and brave performance but if William Buick had ridden EMILYMUPJOHN closer to the pace, then by all means she could have won it meaning the form is perhaps a little false. Other than that you really cant fault him.
INSPIRAL is a typical mare by the way that she blows hot and cold on the big occasions. She is by the mighty FRANKEL out of US bred mare and she would just perhaps want quicker ground. The ground is soft good to soft at the moment but rain storms are predicted ahead of the racing today. On previous form, she can beat PADDINGTON but any more rain would lessen her chances.
The rest have quite a lot to find on ratings. The best of the rest will be ALDAARY for William Haggas who is by TERRITORIES out of a PIVOTAL mare so the ground will be massively in her in his favour today.
Verdict: This isn't a betting race. The price says PADDINGTON can't be beat and he’ll go on any ground. We can't believe we’re saying this but ALDAARY could pick up 2nd should INSPIRAL get stuck in the mud. If the weather warnings are wrong then it will be a hell of race between the new King and the Queen of Group 1 mile racing.
STATS OF THE DAY
We hit a 8/1 winner and 6/1 2nd yesterday. Todays best stat for Goodwood is:
Beckett is 2 from 3 in the 16.45 and he sends LA ISLA MUJERES for the hat trick today.
RISK ON
No yield yesterday with a couple of misses and money back on a good bet on COLTRANE. Ngl we were a little butt hurt with IBERIAN’s ride but that’s racing and crying about it is beta. Todays singles at Goodwood:
16.45 LA ISLA MUJERES
Stat horse. We don't really like betting in big fields but this filly is stand out at top of the market. Beckett loves targeting this race and she looked pretty good last time winning on soft ground so any rain won't be a problem today and that makes her the horse to beat. Missed the 3’s so full bet at 5/2 on the exchange.
17.20 RHOSCOLYN
He's coming back into form which is scary considering considering he's down to a mark of 87! One bit of form stands out at Goodwood, when he won on soft ground in a Class 2 and had ALDAARY in behind who is running in the group 1 Sussex today. The money is coming for him and his owners rarely miss bets when the money is down, which is telling and if he's anything back to his best he can carry this lot. Full bet at 3/1 for him to make a mockery of his mark.
We’re playing a small sloppy place acca on:
13.50 AMLETO, 15.00 BIG EVS, 16.10 TROPICAL ISLAND, 16.45 LA ISLA MUJERES and 17.20 RHOSCOLYN paying 12’s.
Away from Goodwood we’ve had word for KONIG KING 15.55 in a weak race. 5’s on the exchange vs 11/4 books, allowing you to make your own ew. Half bet.
