Equinties - gamblers lost a Wedge!

Too much racing, inclement weather, overpriced Guinness or even that overpriced Guinness being fed to a horse, racing Twitter literally always has something to moan about...

... and good Lord yesterday was no different (for good reason too tbh).

Adam Wedge REALLY fucked up yesterday. Like, in a big way.

I watch A LOT of racing and honestly, I don't think I've seen anything like it for a long time. In fact, I can't remember seeing something like that ever.

What do I mean by that? Well, take for example GALOPIN DES CHAMPS. He fell when basically 20 lengths in the lead but that was a purely jumping error, one of those things. ANNIE POWER... another accident.

LIBBERTY HUNTER... that was Adam Wedge's fault. He rode him with a cockiness that, had he pulled it off, racing Twitter would have creamed its emotional pants over the sexy ride and given Wedge too much credit.

What they forget is Williams cheats so much, that a blind ape could win on most of his trying horses in the 'right' race.

It didn't come off yesterday and instead of gamble landed, Wedge is left to face the music of his actions; upset owners, an angry trainer and thousands of angry punters feeling cheated out of their (accurate) bet.

The whole thing was an audacious show of brash stupidity which sadly, I imagine shan't influence his simple mind because he's done it before and nothing changes.

Rant over, let's dive in

Dai Walters helicopter incident

Prominent Welsh racehorse owner, Dai Walters was involved in a helicopter accident on Tuesday evening alongside his trainer Sam Thomas and three other people.

The owner, who has SKYTASTIC, GOOD RISK AT ALL, and AL DANCER with the Lisvane-based trainer, is said to be conscious and undergoing tests at Glan Clwyd Hospital after police and emergency services were called to the scene near Llandelidan at 17.30.

Walters remains in hospital alongside another passenger whilst Thomas only suffered minor injuries and has returned home.

Inspector David Crust from North Wales Police said: "All the occupants have been accounted for. None of the injuries are thought to be life-threatening or life-changing at this time."

We wish everyone who was involved in the accident a speedy recovery.

Nicholls is on fire

Paul Nicholls banged home three winners at Chepstow yesterday as the Champion Trainer unleashed multiple potential stars.

The champion trainer kicked off with the 11/8 favourite TAHMURAS who bolted up in the 2mile maiden hurdle to unveil himself as a live Festival candidate. He is now a general 25/1 for both the opening race of the Cheltenham Festival and the Ballymore Novices’ Hurdle.

Bigger things look to be on the agenda for this lad, with fences the future target.

35 minutes later, KNOWSLEY ROAD justified his odds-on status as he got the business done in the 2m3½f maiden hurdle, however, the runner-up may be the one to take out of the race as he came from another postcode to finish just a length off the winner.

Nicholls and Harry Cobden completed a nice treble with ISAAC DEC OBEAUX, the three-parts brother to CLAN DES OBEAUX, as he galloped his final furlong rival, Sam Thomas' RANGE into submission to win the concluding bumper quite well in the end.

He battled impressively and despite not being fancied to win fto by jockey Cobden, he looks like a proper horse to follow and simply confirms my bumper previews fuck.

Where next for FIL DOR?

Declarations for Friday’s tasty Down Royal card were released yesterday which saw five confirmed for the Grade 2 WKD Hurdle over 2m – PIED PIPER, already an expected participant, was interestingly joined by stablemate FIL DOR in the lineup despite expectations that the four-year-old would go novice chasing this season.

This may be used as a season starter for him before heading over the bigger obstacles further down the line, but trainer Gordon Elliott has said on many occasions that they want to make use of his four-year-old allowances while they still can.

“We’re sending him straight over fences as we feel the four-year-old allowance will be a very useful tool – he’ll be very dangerous,” said Elliott last month. “You’d have to be excited about him going chasing given the way he used to jump hurdles – he’s a talented horse.”

Elsewhere on the day, MIGHTY POTTER, for the same connections as both PIED PIPER and FIL DOR, has scared away half of Ireland in the beginners chase over 2m3½f as just the seven rivals oppose the Grade 1 winner and stablemate AMERICAN MIKE will make his hurdles debut in the 2m6f maiden hurdle.

Newbury bumper

Hendo's 30k recruit, IOLAOS DU MOU has been squeezed into 11/8 and is way, way too short for the horse's pedigree. His page is fucking shite... that said, I wrote off a Hendo horse with average ped in a bumper the other day and it was gambled and bolted up.

Chris Gordon has tweeted HIGHWAY ONE O FOUR is working well and has subsequently been shortened in the market but his ped is average.

The horses with better blood are Moore's PONCHO (apt for today's weather), Greatrex's STAR FLYER and VILLAINESS. I'm writing off Greatrex because of Greatrex so that leaves me with Snowden's filly and Moore's gelding.

I think the bumper race Moore's ran in in May was good, with Butler's CAMELOT gelding winner being above average (nto he bumped into one of Shaggas' now rated 100).

VILLAINESS is a full sister to Nicholls' bumper winner, SABRINA and a half to bumper winner, LADY ADARE (she's actually unbeaten, albeit in mare races only).

Our view: Moore's PONCHO is the first pick, with VILLAINESS at 7's to hedge. VILLAINESS is a filly against the boys (the only red flag) but for me owns the standout blood and gets the nod for a yard in form atm. Basically, I'm using two arrow's to take on Hendo's.
