I'm not sure what heights she can reach, but MAMMAS GIRL is defo one to keep on side moving forward.
Impressive 👀
Mammas Girl is a half-sister to 10 winners and looks good on debut for @rhannonracing, @LeveySean and @amoracingltd.

She'd been in the pipeline for such a long time. I'm now just more relieved than anything a) because she delivered the hype and b) because now I don't have to check every day for her entry.
On to the next gamble. Now, let's dive in.
Headline Roundup
Sibling stars?
As we mentioned in yesterday’s newsletter, a full-sister to CALYX was making her debut yesterday at Kempton.
If you didn’t see, she sliced through her race under Rob Havlin to bolt up in the 19.00.
👀
Coppice (Kingman) is a sister to the hugely talented Calyx and makes the perfect start for the Gosdens and @JuddmonteFarms at @kemptonparkrace

COPPICE looked good on debut and has already got people talking about the 1000 Guineas for her.
Might be worth asking for a price for The 1000 Guineas re: Coppice

However, she wasn’t the only well-bred sibling to secure success yesterday as a full brother to ADAYAR got his head in front on just his second start at Newmarket.
The brother to Adayar strikes on the Rowley Mile 👀
Military Order (Frankel) opens his account second-time out and brings up a fine four-timer for William Buick and Charlie Appleby at @NewmarketRace@godolphin

MILITARY ORDER, a FRANKEL out of ANNA SALAI, relished the better ground and step up to a mile as he beat his stablemate ANCIENT RULES by a comfortable three quarters of a length – he is now a 25/1 poke for the Derby.
The two-year-old starred in a Godolphin four-timer on the Rowley Mile and after the race, Appleby said "I really like this horse. He does everything so easily at home that he doesn't know what it's all about at the races. He has the same profile as his brother, and we'll put him away after that."
BHA takes action
Just days after The Jockey Club confirmed the Cheltenham Festival would remain a four-day event, the BHA joined in to further listen to industry demand by making some alterations to the 2023 racing calendar.
It's almost as if the failings and subsequent meltdown of the Tory party has injected some fear into dusty governing bodies of the sport. Noone is too big to fail.
Racing's leaders have cut 120 Flat races and 50 jump races from the 2023 summer programme and redistributed some of them through the autumn with the aim to improve the competitiveness of races in Britain next year

Don’t get too excited though. Of our 10,000+ races in a year (fuck that's a lot), the BHA plan to cut and ‘redistribute’ 120 flat races and 50 jumps races – the analogy ‘drop in an ocean’ comes to mind.
These are the conditions of the alterations made:
- Around 120 Flat races and 50 jump races will be cut from the Flat in July and August, with more races put on in the autumn instead
- A third of the worst-performing conditions races on the Flat will be removed and 10-12 per cent of Class 2 and 3 handicaps will be altered

- The weight-for-age novice chase programme from May to August will be replaced with a programme of Class 3 novice handicap chases
- Overseas-trained runners will be allowed back into low-grade handicaps from the start of 2023

Of the four bullet points above, the final one holds the most interest as it will allow overseas-trained runners (Irish plot jobs) to raid our low-grade handicaps, something Irish trainers will be pleased to see.
This is obviously a step in the right direction, and you have to at least give the BHA that, however, this will have no long-term benefit to our sport and the redistribution element of this is bs – you either cut the races or you don’t, it’s as simple as that.

WincantOFF
Wincanton Racecourse have had to call off their Sunday fixture, which was set to have the opener televised on ITV (a big blow for them), due to hard ground - a real theme this year!
Update: Tomorrow morning’s inspection has been brought forward & unfortunately racing on Sunday 23rd October has been abandoned due to ground unsuitable for racing . All ticket purchasers will be refunded automatically, our team will be in touch with hospitality guests shortly.

The seven-race card will now be held at Ffos Las on the same day and Chepstow is set to host Taunton’s cancelled meeting next Wednesday.
This is just one meeting in a whole string of events (Bath has been un-raceable all summer due to the lack of rain, and multiple race days have been cancelled due to slipping on bends) as if God himself is even telling the BHA to chop some races.
In all seriousness, with all these weather events causing issues within our sport, grounds staff and course caretakers really should hold an emergency meeting to try to work out what they need to do better.
