Check out the above the offer because no matter many how many winners you back, you can’t spend it if you die. What?, It’s true!
Look after your gut, look after yourself. You’re welcome.
Let’s dive in.
HEADLINE ROUND UP
EX-MAXWELL ROCKET
As David Maxwell rises, probably very early, in his mansion located right next to Buckingham Palace and briefs himself on all the mornings current affairs over a coffee and grapefruit (we can see that being his breakfast routine), there is a strong case that he’d have binned the racing papers simply after first glance.
That’s because his EL CAIROS, a horse he recently sold at his dispersal sale, is front and centre after Jack Kennedy’s juicy comments:
Maxwell knows how good his horses were and he loved racing as much anyone, so it will pain him to read what he is missing out on.
Back to EL CAIROS. He looked very, very good before coming down last time out but because he didn’t finish the race, his ability still remained somewhat of an uncertainty to punters. But the cat is out the bag now as Gordon’s number 1 has quite simply described him as ‘one of the fastest horses’ he’s ever sat on. That’s huge.
We mentioned yesterday that a maiden is on the agenda for his new potential star so he won’t be a betting prospect but punters will be watching keenly with a view for March for which he is currently 5/1.
OLD PARK STAR is as short as 9/4 and heading the market. So what do we think about the current price on offer?
Well, OLD PARK STAR was thought to want further than 2m but has surprised Hendo with his recent display of gears. Given he’s working alongside and only as good as two and a half miler ACT OF INNOCENCE, might he get done for speed on the day?
We’d take a chance on OLD PARK STAR at 12’s (which we told you ages ago is the price Sevenbarrows were taking) but 9/4? No. We’d much rather play EL CAIROS right now.
We’re also keen to see if Pipe can get WINDBENEATHMYWINGS back in time for March albeit it will be tight given he needs a run to qualify.
FLAT CHAT!
We bloody LOVE the flat season.
The jumps is fine, we get an attachment to the stars given their career longevity and one of the best racing days is Boxing Day (the jumps is basically Christmas), but for us, true racing is flat racing. Royal Ascot, Glorious Goodwood, Monday night’s at Windsor, having too much on ROYAL FIXATION in the Lowther, the fastest horses, muscle, more confident staking, beautiful weather, top hats… the list is endless.
For those of you our way inclined (the right way), we have some flat chat for you!
Balding has declared his star 2yo GEWAN will head straight to the Guineas. Rated 121, he was awarded yesterday with the honours of European Champion 2yo!
Balding knows how to win the 2000 Guineas and with ones heading straight there. He last landed it with CHALDEAN however he’d had a run (albeit without a jockey at Newbury!) but KAMEKO was a good winner in 2020 when making his seasonal debut.
Balding wasn’t the only trainer revealing summer plans as Aidan O’Brien labelled both GSTAAD and PUERTO RICO as English Guineas contenders.
No mention of ALBERT EINSTEIN though, Aidan’s unbeaten 2yo who he once described as a ‘superstar’… high praise given he’s in charge of Ballydoyle ffs!
The dark bay colt suffered a season ending setback after his second win in Group 2 company but is reportedly back to cantering at home. We’re hearing he is Ballydoyle’s main hope for this years 2000 Guineas and is currently price up at 10’s, ahead of GEWAN and PUERTO RICO, which is unbelievable given he’s not yet got a rating, been out with injury and can’t promise to train on as a 3yo!
The market is telling though and the whispers that come with it are almost tempting to get in speculatively on the 10’s available now because if he is to have an explosive return, he could very well get slammed into strong fave for the day.
Given Aidan’s comments about EINSTEIN’s speed, you’d think he won’t be targeted for the Derby (they made that mistake with THE LION IN WINTER) and he eluded to PIERRE BONNARD as his Derby numero uno calling him ‘made for Epsom’. The ALBERT EINSTEIN / PIERRE BONNARD Guineas Derby double is a juicy 80/1 on some books, most paying 76/1.
Might be worth a bit of beer money!?
