Headline roundup

EQUINOX!

Racing in the UK and Ireland wasn’t classic on Saturday but in the areas we lacked, Meydan’s action for the Dubai World Cup made up for it, chief of which was EQUINOX in the Group 1 Sheema Classic.

The four-year-old KITASAN BLACK (seven-time Japanese Group 1 winner) colt is now unbeaten in his last three starts having won the Tenno Sho and Arima Kinen in his two runs in late 2022 and he destroyed the Sheema Classic field by three lengths ON THE BRIDLE all while breaking the track record.

Racing Twitter blew up on Saturday afternoon after this performance and rightly so - he’s beaten a 119-rated Irish Derby winner in WESTOVER and 121-rated MOSTAHDAF oh so easily and he could be very exciting if he travels over to Europe later this season.

The murmurs under the surface are that it would be amazing to see him rock up to the Arc in October – he has done all of his winning on good or good to firm ground so soft ground at Longchamp may not be his gig, but as Nick Luck said yesterday, he does have a pedigree to give the world’s most famous flat race a go.

We had FLIGHTLINE last year, this year is for EQUINOX. The future is bullish for world racing.

Moore Moore Moore

Ryan Moore's passport has been stamped a lot the last few days and he's not just racking up the air miles, he racking up them P's too.

A man on fire, one of the largest prizes he picked up this weekend was on BROOME to win the Dubai Gold Cup. BROOME's first start at two miles since October 2020, Ryan Moore delivered him perfectly proving he is just simply one of the best flat jockeys the world has seen.

The Royal Ascot winner swept past the favourite SISKANY to win by a neck providing Aidan O’Brien with his only winner in Meydan from his two runners.

Ryan Moore finished the weekend riding in Naas.

Curragh action

The Curragh took a fairly centre stage on Saturday for the start of the Irish turf season and it was newsletter NAP INSINUENDO who comfortably took the Group 3 Express Stakes by a 1.5 lengths.

And to the delight of you lovely readers, we put her up at 15/8 before she went off at 10/11.

The form with EMILY UPJOHN, MOTHER EARTH, and ABOVE THE CURVE was good enough to get the job done on Saturday and back to Group 1 company is on the agenda for the four-year-old.

35 minutes earlier, the British completed a successful raid of the Irish Lincolnshire as William Haggas’ LATTAM ran an incredible race to just get up on the line for Chris Hayes.

The unexposed four-year-old found trouble in running and looked like he had no chance of winning having been stuck in the pack, however, he flew home at odds of 8/1 to sweep up the contest.

16.00 WESTERN GENERAL

Full bet on this lad at 2/1. He's progressive vs an exposed, badly bred field who look capped at 115 rating where. Breeding and Point form says this lad should be 125 + (has two half siblings >120 & 130) and can hose up today.

Any more bets will be posted on Twitter...but tbh having taken a lot from the Boat Race yesterday and been on a heater all week, I'm happy to sit back and smile at my bank.
