Equinties

Gm Equinauts

The weekend was an absolute rollercoaster of emotions with our shorties bombing but the all the big prices flying in.

What a Saturday.

We ended the weekend with three winners, each paying handsome dividends but it was the Crowley tip which we were most happy with.

Let’s dive in.

BGP FANTASY LEAGUE COMP

We’ve been hyping up the TOTE’s new Fantasy game since we found it. Why? Simply because there is nothing else out there now which can help people cage the betting chimp while maintaining an emotional interest in the big races of the day.

People bet way too much and the Fantasy allows you to get limited risk on, fill your brain up with the dope it craves and still be in the mix for a big win.

If we hit 100 stables today, top of the BGP private league get’s a new ‘GM’ cap.

HEADLINE ROUND UP

THAT King George

After all of the build-up, this year’s King George had a lot of pressure on its shoulders to deliver. From Derby winners to Royal Ascot successors, older statesmen to young pretenders, everyone on Racing X was brimming with excitement.

And boy did we get the race we all wanted. Well, everyone bar AUGUSTE RODIN backers.

After a sustained battle down the Ascot straight, we had a crowing champion in HUKUM, the six-year-old who has got better with age and in turn, the better of four-year-old WESTOVER to win the Group 1 contest.

In third was three-year-old KING OF STEEL, a fair performance from the King Edward VII Stakes winner with fellow colt AUGUSTE RODIN the blowout of the race – trainer Aidan O’Brien was unable to explain his poor run, though with the way his petrol tank emptied, you’d have to say something is wrong.

Back to the Owen Burrows-trained SEA THE STARS entire, he is a horse you would find it hard not to love as he has gone from a career-threatening injury to winning one of the most prestigious races in the calendar in just over 13 months. That is mesmerising training from Burrows and the team at Francombe Downs Stables.

So where next for HUKUM? Well, the Arc is his big target, a race we highlighted him for at 16/1 after Royal Ascot – he is now an 8/1 shot for the season-ending Group 1 at Paris Longchamp.

What a race. What a tip from JC. What a sport.

Hannon's classic contender

Following the King George, the Listed Pat Eddery Stakes revealed a potential Classic runner for Richard Hannon as ROSALLION bolted up under Sean Levey.

By first-season extraordinaire BLUE POINT, his dam, ROSALINE, is a half-sister to this season’s Queen Anne winner TRIPLE TIME as well as the 2019 Bengough Stakes winner CAPE BYRON, so he has a lovely page to continue improving from this year’s success.

He is now 20/1 for the 2000 Guinea this year, though the record of horses winning the Pat Eddery Stakes and making it in the Guineas isn’t amazing.

An ELITE Sunday

Also, over in France, Royal Ascot disappointment ELITE STATUS got his season back on track in the Group 3 Prix de Cabourg as he raced prominently and won well under Clifford Lee.

Where next? Well, Lucy Burke, assistant trainer to Karl, thinks he could be coming back to France, as she said: "I think it was good to bring him over, get him used to the travel and settled in. He's a big baby and I think he'll have learned a lot from this trip. I don't see why they wouldn't bring him back."

That big performance would have put a big smile on Burkey’s face who is currently recovering from a serious operation. Gey well soon, Burley.

Further

And finally, in Sunday’s Group 1 Prix Rothschild, Andre Fabre’s MQSE DE SEVIGNE ground out victory to beat a good field of fillies and mares.

REMARQUEE, ROGUE MILLENIUM, SOUNDS OF HEAVEN, and KELINA were all in behind the SIYOUNI four-year-old and she has laid down a good marker to take on some of the higher-level mares in her division.

STATS OF THE DAY

Only one stay today and very short.

LADY BOBA goes for Beckett and Ryan in the 19.42 who are 2 from 4 at track. Hugo Merry is a big bloodstock agent and bought this girl as a yearling and was also underbidder on her younger sibling last year on behalf of the same owners… is that because he thought she was pretty good?

RISK ON

Goodwood starts tomorrow and it was very very good to us last year. Waiting for that show to start.
