13.50 5F GROUP 3 CORAL CHARGE

We nailed the winner in this last year and it really should just be as easy to work out, with only three main runners in ASFOORA, RUMSTAR and WORDS OF TRUTH.

It’s well known ASFOORA takes time to get straight so you can almost discount her previous run quite confidently. She seems to be coming to the boil now after a decent run (albeit on the right side of the track at Ascot) and we might see her at he best here. If she is at her best then she might be hard to beat.

RUMSTAR won this last year:

He really strengthened up from 3 to 5yo and now Group 3’s on fast ground really are his bag. If Portman used Royal Ascot as a prep, which is entirely plausible to give the owners a day out, then he will be cherry ripe for this.

WORDS OF TRUTH was hammered by MILITARY CODE in work ahead of their encounter at Sandown (hence Billy chose MILITARY CODE) but WORDS OF TRUTH won easily. Some times racing does not make sense. On that basis we feel that performance was other falsely run or fluke form.

SHAGRAAN was well beat by RUMSTAR in this last year and we don’t think that form will be reversed even though he finished ahead of RUMSTAR at Ascot (on the near side).

Of the rest we only think GETREADYTORUMBLE can play a part finally back on quick ground which he needs (Channon isn’t very good at knowing what ground is best for his horses).

Verdict: ASFOORA could finally be coming to the boil for this but that would be guessing. We love RUMSTAR and he can win this again and go back to back. Channon’s GETREADYTORUMBLER can fill a top 3 place.

15.00 1M FILLIES LISTED DISTAFF

Gosden and Balding have good records in this race, together they have landed four of the last five renewals.

SACRED GROUND for Gosden is stepping down in trip having been beaten in all three attempts at 10f. She’s got a daisy cutting action so this ground will suit and even though dam stayed, she is not short of speed, so this move trip wise could pay.

PACIFIC MISSION has drifted all morning and that kind of makes sense given she hasn’t done much since her BC silver medal. We think she needs a quicker surface than she encountered at Epsom so

ACT OF KINDESS is the half to YLANG YLANG and might need more cut in the ground.

SECRET OF LIFE is very interesting given she bolted up in the soft going when she would have defo preferred faster going. Dam was a group winner over further so the step up to a mile should pose no problem.

SILENCIOSA’s ped is a little hard to read, she might want softer going however she has run well on fast and was fairly eye-catching on her penultimate start at Newbury.

The rest can’t win.

Verdict: SECRET OF LIFE on fast ground is an exciting prospect after her demolition job on soft going which she almost certainly wouldn’t’ have enjoyed.

15.35 1M 2F GROUP 1 ECLIPSE

Aidan O’Brien has on for the four-timer with CONSTITUTION RIVER. The books are selling him at 11/10 right now. Some might consider that big given the way he won the French Derby:

SADDADD has been pumped by GETHIN in their 3yo careers at Newbury. Both have developed to become bloody good horses, both deserving of their places here and we think GETHIN comes out on top again. His form with OMBUDSMAN is very good:

We can’t really see the other horses causing much of a fuss.

Verdict: CONSTITUTION RIVER and GETHIN could, should fill the 1-2 in a repeat of the Brigadier but in what order we’re not sure. The field isn’t deep but the top of the market is strong and will be a brilliant race to watch. A non-betting race for us but we feel GETHIN might just come up trumps.
