No we're in the flat season proper and with the Guineas only two weeks away, it really is hard to get excited for Punchestown.
Even as a betting prospect, the horses by this time would have had a long season and in need of a break so one cant be too sure as to what horse turns up on the day. People should go easy on it. The TOTE Fantasy might be the strategic play all week.
Talking of 'turning up', one horse who has been given the green light to go is BRAVEMANSGAME. Good boy.

Headline roundup
The double doubled
For the second year in a row, Christian Williams has landed the Eider Chase and the Scottish National double with the same horse. That is mental.

The seven-year-old’s success in the race did create a cool stat from this year’s trio of Grand Nationals.
All worked out quite nicely in the end this season...

Following his poor jumping display in the Eider, KITTY’S LIGHT was much, much better for the full four miles and was a deserved winner at 4's.
How good is this?

No doubt an emotional win for the yard, a timely and much needed one too no doubt as Christians five-year-old daughter Betsy was diagnosed with leukaemia on the Wednesday after the Cheltenham. Possibly the worst news Christian will ever receive, it is just heart breaking.
In amongst the sadness there’s sometimes a bit of light . ❤️@CWilliamsRacing@jacktudor9#kittyslight#Betsy

Brilliant horse. Brilliant team. Brilliant story. Well done to Christian and all of the yard.
Performance of the weekend
With Harry Skelton resting up from his fall at Cheltenham on Wednesday, Bridget Andrews took over the number one duties for the Skelton team at Ayr on Saturday and produced a brilliant ride on SAIL AWAY to win the Novices’ Champion Handicap Chase by 11 lengths.

The seven-year-old, who was entered for the Scottish Grand National, carried 11-8 and made all with some brilliant jumping to beat FORWARD PLAN and CITY CHIEF easily.
🗣 I'm so grateful to everyone who gives me these opportunities "

He has some good form with CORACH RAMBLER and is still unexposed, an exciting horse to look forward to for the Skeltons.
As for Bridget, the ride was another example of how good she is in the plate and a true asset to Dan's yard. She's actually probably a better rider than Harry Skelton. She also always kicks his arse in the jockey show jumping at the International Horse Show at Christmas.
Would be quite funny to see Bridget as no. 1.
Frankie dismounts early
It was an incredible Greenham for a number of reasons. Firstly, Frankie fell of Chaldean.
What do we think, folks?

And then, in the famous colours of the Sangster family, the gamble of the race, ISAAC SHELBY, trotted up. He was squeezed 14/1 to 15/2 before the off, pushing CHALDEAN out to 11/10.
High drama in the Greenham! 👀
Hot favourite Chaldean unships Frankie Dettori coming out of the stalls, leaving Isaac Shelby to make all the running under @LeveySean!
Brian Meehan appears to have a good horse on his hands but is he a genuine 2,000 Guineas contender?

People are saying this wasn’t the ideal prep for the Guineas in two weeks’ time, how!?
It was perfect.
Balding and Juddmonte wouldn’t want Chaldean to have a hard race on this ground a fortnight before the Guineas, that was probably perfect race prep.

This Chaldean got some character. Watch. Ears pricked, then sees crowd, ears doubly pricked, spots Isaac Shelby, ears straight back & makes a bee line. Pretty damn sure he wasn’t there to whisper sweet nothings into his ear. I’d consider betting him in the Guineas for that alone http

Following the race, CHALDEAN is still on course for the Guineas (now 11/2 from 5’s) and the winner is off to the French 2000 Guineas.
Chaldean is still on course for the 2000 Guineas, with the winner being aimed at the Poule d'Essai des Poulains at Longchamp.

Green by colour, green by nature
In the race directly preceding the Greenham, proceedings were a bit more normal for the fillies as the well-fancied REMARQUEE, sporting the green colours of owner J H Richmond-Watson, was very green throughout but still won the Fred Darling by a neck.

The KINGMAN filly handled the cut well despite being keen throughout and once she found a gap through the traffic, Ralph Beckett’s highly thought-of three-year-old won well under Rob Hornby.
Remarquee is now 6/1 from 25/1 for the 1000 Guineas after success in the Fred Darling at Newbury.

She is now a best price 7/1 for the first Classic of the year for fillies at Newmarket in 12 days’ time with the likes of MEDITATE and TAHIYRA ahead of her in the market – will she relish the Newmarket dip and extra furlong with her character?
🗣️"If she comes out of it well, we'll go straight to Newmarket."
Remarquee is a big mover in 1,000 lists after her Fred Darling success and trainer @RalphBeckett appears to rate her highly 👇

RELIEF RALLY is full sister to Gr3 winner KOROPICK. She’s a late April foal but looks mature and strong as a yearling. Haggas' aren't normally asked for much first time up but the breeding suggests she'll be a sharp 2yo type.
TOKYO DRIFT is by Showcasing and a half sister to Listed placed STAR OF LADY M. She’s the only one who has raced before, so will be able to put her experience to good use. She finished 3rd on debut but it was a bunch finish so you question if they’re all good.
GAIDEN is a 65k MEHMAS. Looked a nice yearling, yard does well with 2yo’s and they’re lucky owners. Use market to guide.
LADY WULFREN is a late foal by SAXON WARRIOR, her half sister won her first two starts at 2 and was Listed placed so there’s a good chance this girl is precocious but it’s probably wise to watch fto.
PICKLED PEPPER is TOO DARN HOT’s second runner, could she be his first winner? She didn’t go to the sales, she is a homebred for the Yarrows. The dam, EIRENE, ran 6 times as a 2yo which included a listed win and was 2nd in a Gr3. She’s certainly of interest.

Small play on the best horse in the race at 7/4. Forget Aintree last time, the form before at Newbury is good. Bar some Punchestown stuff, this lad will probably be our last NH bet now until the ground dries for the summer jumps.
Staking and banking
There was a lot of positive feedback recently from people benefitting from our staking advice. Well, and general bank roll tips too. So we'll keep it here as a reminder.
If you want to take punting seriously and use racing as a value add to your life, keep a betting bank, protect it at all times (none of this 'ah we're on a bull run, I'll stick a few stupid bets on') and stick to risking the % stakes, upping notional as the bank grows. Betting banks will change your punting forever.
Help keep a healthy bank by betting less and using the TOTE Fantasy game to feed the chimp.
