Equinties - Disgruntled Owners and Riders

Equinties

Gm Equinauts

For those of you who have a genuine interest in racing and actually read the whole newsletter (instead of scrolling straight down to the bottom to laugh at Risk On), you might think today’s newsletter is just a duplicate of yesterday’s…

It’s not. It’s just that the news that broke yesterday, you know, the horses leaving Boughey’s yard and whether or not new whip bans would allow Frankie to ride in the July Cup, have each had major updates, the former the cause of much Newmarket gossip and possibly even a BHA investigation.

Now, let’s dive in.

MERCH

Merch store pending!

We received a test sample (the one I’ve been wearing all weekend) and we’re not quite happy with it. We want the merch to be perfect, so you’ll have to wait a bit longer max

BGP FANTASY LEAGUE COMP

We’ve been hyping up the TOTE’s new Fantasy game since we found it. Why? Simply because there is nothing else out there now which can help people cage the betting chimp while maintaining an emotional interest in the big races of the day.

People bet way too much and the Fantasy allows you to get limited risk on, fill your brain up with the dope it craves and still be in the mix for a big win.

If we hit 250 stables, top of the BGP private league get’s a new ‘GM’ cap.

HEADLINE ROUND UP

Bye Bye Boughey… pt2

When we reported that ASADNA and a few other nags had left Bougheys for Haynes’, we suspected it would have fallen down to the ‘disgruntled owner’ category.

Not long after yesterday’s press, Sheikh Abdullah Almalek Alsabah, came out with the reason for moving his exciting two-year-old.

Old Sheikhy apparently told Boughey he did not want ASADNA to run in the Coventry as “the horse had hurt himself at home before the race”, but the trainer said he was fine and ran him anyway. ASADNA finished 9th.

Boughey is now paying the price for not listening to his owner, although something tells me had ASADNA won, Boughey would simply have looked a genius and probably taken delivery on a few more horses. Funny how things work.

ASADNA wasn’t the only horse Sheikhy was upset over. DANGER ALERT’s removal from the Palace Of Holyroodhouse on the vet’s advice, CADILLAC’s disappointing 15th of 16 in the Wolferton and the lack of declaration for AL DASIM in the Commonwealth Cup (due to lameness), must have been all contributing factors in this huge yard move.

From owner’s deceit to public deceit, one of the more concerning parts of this story is how the likes of the BHA and some other industry personalities knew about this story way before the public. As a sport wholly dependent on betting, you’d think it would want to be a little more transparent to the people that fund it!

Dettori banned… pt2

And very quickly, to follow up on yesterday’s speculation, we can confirm Frankie Dettori has been banned for a further eight days due to his ride on INSPIRAL in the Queen Anne, meaning he will miss the July Cup.

Former Champ Oisin Murphy will also miss the meeting following his ride on VALIANT KING, runner-up in the King George V Stakes.

James McDonald and Daniel Muscutt have been banned for whip breaches as well.

Tahiyra to the Matron Stakes

And finally, TAHIYRA will take a break from the track following her Newmarket to Curragh to Ascot travels, Pat Downes has confirmed.

The Dermot Weld-trained three-year-old will be working back from the G1 Matron Stakes at Leopardstown on Irish Champions Weekend on September 9th.

Although connections haven’t said what she could be up to after that, “there are a lot of options on the table for her” which could include the Breeders’ Cup, though the ground may be too quick for her.

YOUNG BLOOD

14.50 Carlisle - a class 3 for novices.

SOLDIERS GOLD. Unsteady in the market but ran well on debut in a solid looking maiden and confirmed his promising effort backing up nto with a good 2nd. He’s out of a twice-winning mare who produced MR MCCANN (who Palmer also trained).

AJWAADI is by Dutch Art and o/o a mare who was unraced but she is a full sister to WAR ENVOY who was placed in two Group 2 and a Group 3 as a 2yo. A smart pinhook bought as a yearling for 57,000gns and resold for 150,000gns. This lad’s fourth dam is the Champion 3yo filly in 1988 Winning Colours who won the Kentucky Derby. This page is what you want for a horse.

LAND LOVER was fancied lto and slightly disappointed although wasn’t too far behind TWILIGHT ROMANCE, the same horse who beat SOLDIERS GOLD on debut. Needs to keep improving though otherwise looks like one for low handicaps.

BATTLE CHARGE has been disappointing considering his breeding and price tag as a yearling. You have to go to second dam for any worthwhile bits on his page but he’s by Coolmore’a £40m panic buy WOOTTON BASSETT. Could potentially be a later type as suggested by his mum’s siblings like HOOKING.

BANDELLO has a smart pedigree. By speedball TWILIGHT SON, he’s out of a Rockfel Stakes winning mare. Unknown first time out but defo one to make a note of for the future and should be feared today.

LADY WULFRUN is really liked by Balding but despite her not getting her ground lto, she doesn’t come into this with any yard form so she probably best watched today but mark my words, she will be winning soon.

Note: Balding has so many good chances, today really could be the day he turns it around but my money won’t find out.

Verdict: AJWAADI will know his job being a breeze up and looks the play at 3’s. On the ground, it would be no surprise to see BANDELLO go close and at 10’s is an easy hedge.

RISK ON

We went one from two horses yesterday as Ismail Mohammed’s HAVANA GREY bolted in only for Balding to let the double down.

Andrew Balding just isn’t firing at the moment and until it turns around, which it will, we won’t go near his horses which is incredibly annoying tbf because his VETIVER and EQUITY LAW would have been bets today. Meh!

For today, we’ll get a bit of Risk On the Young Blood horse and these:

14.20 ALL IS FAIR

Slow out the gates on debut but finished well behind potentially one of the fastest horses around. Lesser race today, on paper, and if he breaks better, he should bolt up. Full bet at 7/4.
